  • Do motorbikes count?

    • only electrical (no nose pollution ;)

Looooong detour required for Canberrans. Pedal Power not involved - too busy protesting, govt penniless thanks to trams could only suggest this: https://www.transport.act.gov.au/news/events/event-items/rid…

Negs from two rusted on Labor voters? Lol. If so, oyfe

    • It took me a while to understand what you were rambling on about… (Edit: I didn't neg you.)

You're complaining that there is nothing for Canberrans.

Ride2Work is actually an event organised by Bicycle Network, which is based in Victoria. Hence the heavy representation in Victoria.

Ride2Work is not a government initiative. Unfortunately, most Australians don't give a shit about cycling, so governments don't either. As such, it's left to organisations such as Bicycle Network to organise something like this to try to promote cycling as a form of transport for commuting.

Pedal Power used to have something similar (not "national" ride to work or maybe it was, reading below) in Cba, don't know when it stopped. They held a protest ride last weekend to highlight a lack of commitment to "active travel" investment.

A little govt "incentive" is usually required for such events to succeed but in "green" (Green) Cba those incentives have been gobbled up by massive tram expenditure (which ironically also shut down multiple bus routes to shore up patronism). Didn't expect non Canberrans to understand and DID want to provoke a few of the Labor/Green limpets with the election imminent. Unlikely, but we drastically need a big influx of thoughtful voting, member competence and independence, as does Australia in general.

  • Is the MAMIL look required to get free coffee / breakfast?

    Where the hell is Malanda?

    • +1

Its a tiny town near Cairns

      • +1

Well. I doubt anyone is using bicycles to commute to work over there

        • At least they have good coffee over there.

  • Good thing about ebike is that the rider doesn't have to dress for the occasion, and therefore avoiding time spend in an end of trip facility.

  • Great initiative! Awesome to see so many more people riding bikes in my city recently.

  • +7

Thanks OP. I’m leaving Brissie now on my way to Malanda..

    • +2

Yeah, crazy that nowhere in Bris is participating. Especially with the amount of spandex heroes that zoom in packs along the river

    • Had to google where in the world it was. Sidenote, I cant be the only one who wishes Qld Fire Department would put the postcode in when they post a bushfire alert on FB? They post locality names and you either have to know it or google where it is. Sometimes a bushfire advice alert is posted for places not too far from me (not too far as in within 2 hrs drive) and Ive never heard of it?

"National" ride to work day looks a bit more like the VFL. Heavy Victorian representation with a smattering of interstate misfits…

    • Yeah, it used to be bigger, but has shrunk for some years. Organisation behind it is based in Vic so staff probably promote more in their local communities.

  • Not seeing UTS / Sydney via the map link or on the ride2work website

  • Only in Victoria could they cook something like this up.

    • What's the problem with it in your opinion ANF?

  • Buys bike to ride to work, then sits in shed until next year.
