9800x3d releasing very soon. Higher clocks, 15% gaming improvement yada yada these should get cheaper.

    • +7

Where have you heard the 15% increased gaming? I've heard clocked higher but no double digit gains yet.

      • +1

It's all just rumours. Don't take anything anyone says as real until the product is released and there are benchmarks

        • +4

And then wait for the benchmarks to be re-done with the correct drivers…

      • +3

His source is trust him bro 😂

        • Yeah i didn't have any credible source on that 15% but glad it started the discussion.

I do think even minor fps gains from the 9800x3d will see the second hand market flooded with these.

      • Supposedly 200Mhz clock bump, which is not a lot for gaming. So an IPC improvement of about 3% with a 4% clock bump, but who knows if Zen5 X3D will unleash more gains for this architecture. Prices for 9800X3D will also be higher, AMD has increased prices.

    • +3

I really doubt that you will get 15% improvement.
Particularly with how 9000 series has been so far.. any gains are likely to average around 3-5%
Obviously only until launch will be find any info.
I think while the current 2 game promo is still active. People should get this as it makes the deal more appealing and offsets any future drops in price or gains from the 9800x3d

      • +1

7800X3D was limited by heat/clocks. Zen 5 apparently has the cache connected differently so if it can achieve full clock speeds it's possible it'll be close to 15%.

        • +1

I think it may be realistic. 5-10% on architecture alone and besides the clocks they mentioned they are working on unlocking the auto overclocking even more so extra 5% might be possible on the higher end.
I would expect it to average around the 10% mark though. It depends what the CPU is for. If games than the lower end of the range is the more probable one.

          • @goodwillN1: 9000 series has the same architecture and pipelines as 7000 series ? Just slightly higher core density/clocks?

      • Yup.

        7700x to 9700x was around 3.5% improvement.

The 9800x3d is probably going to be around 5% improvement, with maybe a possibility of up to 10% via overclocking.

        • So black myth is around 2% faster but far cry is 16% faster. We will need more games bust looking at that I won't be far off with my estimate of an average 3-5% faster. it will be out soon enough to know real world data.

    • 15% gaming improvement

      really just 15% cinebench

      • +3

TBH, I don't think any CPU change is going to make my gaming 15% better. It's more likely to just allow me to see better just how much I suck.

    • What socket and chipset does the 9800x3d require? Same as the 7xxx series?

      • yeah, AM5, apparently the next gens will use it until at least 2027 too, so maybe another release or two.

  • Hearing rumours release is due EOM due to poor 9000 series sales. I think whatever the improvement over the 7000 series, they will come down in price due to this.

  • +9

Wow, these have really spiked back up haven't they. They were regularly ~$530 until the 9000 series came out. I'd definitely be waiting till the 9800x3d releases at this point

    • Take into consideration you get 2 free games with current promotion
      Valued at around $160

      • +3

Well that depends if you want the games or not.

        • While true for those who do it makes it more appealing

      • That promotion has been running since August 6th

        • Ohhh then the first link above actually is the best deal

    • +1

Probably because the 9000 series releases have been so bad for gaming purposes, everyone's just buying 7000 series CPUs instead.

  • +5

FYI reached out to Toptek sales, they are not part of the free game promotion

    • +4

Ohh well this deal is a lot less attractive spend the extra 50 and go through jw or scorptec

kind of funny to justify paying triple the price vs the aliexpress 5700x3Ds for ~20% more performance…

    • +1

But that would also mean end of life for your am4 system with 5800x3d

      • yes, obviously, but at triple the price? I'd rather wait for something that justifies it than buy this CPU at this time and price, but sure.

  • These could be had for $465 from AliExpress when coupon stacking with those spend x get y discounts.

In fact, I saw them go even lower, around the $450 mark.

    (source : I bought one)
