what the hell requires 8 amps??

besides what's on your mum's nightstand

      Amp - hours, not amps.

Useful for heavy duty tools like lawn mowers on big jobs, like your Mum's 'landscaping'.

Amp Hour (Ah). It can supply more or less current than 8A.
If it draws 8amps, it will last 1 hour.
If it draws 2 amps, it will last 4 hours.
If it draws 16amps, it will last 30 mins.

Things like circular/mitre/table saws, belt sanders, compressor etc are all very power hungry.

      amp-hours is not amps.

you realise that most power tool batteries can supply a minimum of 30 amps of current right and a lot can do 40-50 amps @ 18v.

      • How did you find that spread sheet?
Amazing information for looking at harvesting batteries.

        • When I checked last year, it seemed likely these Xfinity packs were made of 4000mAh Samsung 40T 21700 cells in them. Specifications for those have a max continuous current of 35A.

I haven't opened a pack to check the cells.

Obvious the 4.0Ah is 5s1p, and 8.0Ah is 5s2p, so theoretically the 4.0Ah is good for 35A continuous, and the 8.0Ah is good for 70A continuous.

        • Also, if you're looking at harvesting them, Aldi often lower the price of their battery packs at the end of a series of tools sales. Last year, I snagged 2x8.0Ah 21700 packs for $70 each.

Couldn't resist them for that price ;)

    • Dewalt 18v circular saw draws up to 50 amps.

So you want a 6 Ah battery at least says the user base.

  • Note that Bunnings have never discounted their equivalent 8Ah battery from Ozito,

Do they need to though? Maybe there's less margin in the batteries so they just discount the like for like tools and those that purchase them have no need for the Aldi battery?

    • its down to smaller market

like 2-3 amps seems to be common on most tools

but how many people need 4 5 or 8 amps?

If you are at all mobile its really nice to have the extra juice to not have to go and swap batteries. Not a big deal but its an efficiency improvement. Going from a 2ah to 4ah battery on my blower means I can do the whole front yard at work without going back to my bench and getting another 2ah off charge(or pocketing one for the trip lol).

Bunnings always slogs their ozito line to compete whenever aldi has their tools listed. Happy to be corrected here but this is the first time I have seen an 8ah battery on its own from aldi.

      • Nah, they have done it before, I've bought one previously. I have one for a little floodlight that I take when we go camping, having the 8Ah now means I can run it for a decent length of time over multiple nights without recharging. Haven't managed to even run it flat yet on a trip.

Does it fit in the lawn mower battery slot?

    • +2

      Yes

*I bought both in last years sale

  • Can I make this battery fit on other brands?

    • You can get adapters for nearly any combo.

Some of them get pretty bulky tho.

  • I have an adapter to use Ozito batteries in my Milwaukee as an emergency backup.

Has anyone found an adapter to use XFinity/Scheppach batteries in Milwaukee?

  • The ozito 8ah is part of their higher discharge batteries iirc, and not the base line they usually match with.

Sure hope they do though Ozito has some cracker tools now (as well as some totally trash ones hah). Not surprising though Einhell is a big brand with a lot of awesome products we will slowly receive here.

  • The last time I built an electric skateboard battery with these. mine had Samsung 40T 21700. picked 4x on markdown @$79

    • What are they 4s2p I imagine? How do they get 20v? Do 21700s charge to 5 volts?

      • They get the 20V exactly the same way as they get the 18V. They're just two different numbers referring to the same batteries. 18V is the nominal voltage (kind of what you'll be getting in normal use, mainly, …ish). 20V is the peak voltage when it's fully charged and operating on no load. It's essentially a marketing difference.
