  • Wow, thats one heavy laptop if the Product Weight (kg) is 17.9.

    • Item description says 1.6kg
And even if there was anywhere saying that the laptop weighs 17kg, that gotta be a mistake/typo

      • +1

In the item specifics it says the battery alone is 1.6 :-)

  • +3

Beware its eMMC storage, not SSD

  • +2

    Specs here: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/IdeaPad/IdeaPad_1_15ADA7?M=8…

Was about to buy until I realised the RAM is capped at 1x 8GB:

    One DDR4 SO-DIMM slot up to 8GB (8GB SO-DIMM) DDR4-2400

  • +3

    yeah e waste product

  • can't lenovo /Acer, etc stop produce rubbish??
waste materials and creating junk only for landfill

  • +5

What year is this? Athlon, eMMC, AC wifi, 1366 screen…

Even at this price, it's still useless - get a $200 Xiaomi phone instead if you just want web browsing and a calculator app.

  • Prefer the Duron….

  • OOS

Looks like many people with small budgets are happy with this new 15.6" laptop for bargain price.

    • +1

      It's a 2 core cpu w a 60hz 45%NTSC 250nit panel… that's not even 1080p

      • Sure. But all brand new for this price, which means New Battery, New Keyboard, all ports new even has usb c,

new/frewsh Windows 11 software, and full new 12 month warranty. Not everyone is as fussy with cpu/ram/rom

size and speed as some of us OzBargainers lol.

        • +2

Lol yeah… if you say so.

The type c is data transfer only so there's little benefit of it being there, and actually it's a 220nit TN panel 768p. Not 250nit.

The windows that comes w this is Windows 11 S mode, therefore you cannot install external apps lol.

Doesn't even have an ethernet port.

Single channel memory only and some 1.5w speakers lolll

          • +1

@AndrewMTG: You know you can just switch out of S Mode right? It isn't locked.

          • +1

            @AndrewMTG: Used though.

The deals laptop would suit high school students. It's a basic, low spec , budget laptop.

            8gb ram would be fine

Ethernet port - who uses ethernet ports these days? If you need one then buy a $3 adapter from aliexpress.

            • @altomic: TN panel is the worse part of it tho

              • @AndrewMTG: Many don't care as some people still using low end 5-10 year old laptops.

As I said before, this is new with New Battery and 12 months Warranty,

just because you prioritise higher specs in used over lower and new,

does not mean that everybody does.

                • +1

@ozhunter68: Those low end 5-10 year old laptops and still more powerful than this.

Im still using a 2012 macbook pro i7 16gb ram 512SSD i picked up for less than a hundy. Kicks the ass out of this laptop

                  • +1

@easternculture: In all fairness, that was not a low end laptop, that was a top laptop in it's day,

and would certainly run nicely still if well maintaned.

There is a place for cheap $200-$600 new laptops as that is all some people can spend

for kids or super basic computing. Not everyone is tech wise and just want something

that will work out of the box fairly risk free, I also sometimes buy seconhand computers/

phones, but am a little tech savvy unlike some others. I still prefer new most of the time.

                    • @ozhunter68: But the wise buy would be a slightly older laptop with better specs at same or lower price.

                      • @easternculture: I agree, wise for you and me, but maybe not for a busy parent with little

tech knowledge, time and/or money. Different horses for courses don't you think?

                        • +2

@ozhunter68: Most people are tech savvy these days. We are no longer in the 80s and 90s anymore

                          • +1

@easternculture: Agree, most are. But that still leaves thousands or even a million that are not,

hence this sold out fast. I'll just agree to dissagree and respect other peoples

                            positions and situations.

              • +1

@AndrewMTG: yeah, but it's not a deal breaker. and for a high school student who does not require anything too computing intensive then its good. I had older versions of these laptops for each of my kids for when they started high school (2017) - Lenovo IdeaPad 100S-14IBR with 4gb/32gb emmc (with an empty m.2 slot) and win 7 - I bought a bulk lot (5) for ~$80 each

windows could not update to win 10 due to the limited size of the emmc drive , so I added a 256gb m.2 drive - updated windows with no problem on the next boot up.

they worked fine for a few years - nearly daily use , the batteries did degrade, and so when they reached year 10 I would buy them higher spec/more expensive used laptops.

for $80 + m.2 upgrade cost - it was a no brainer as a parent sending them to school with a basically disposable laptop. if they destroyed it then I could just remove the m.2 drive and swap it into one of the spares -(which I did twice, and then also used the battery from a smashed one to replace a degraded battery in a working machine)

                • @altomic: I fully agree with your thinking as raising kids can be very expensive.

Not everyone has loads of spare money for top end tech, especially for young kids.

                • +1

@altomic: aye you do you man, all good ! your money after all

          • @AndrewMTG: why are some of you obsessed with used? everyone doesnt like buying used

            • @Freestyle: I mean i didn't say that

              • @AndrewMTG: yeah? is that why you linked an used laptop

                • @Freestyle: Yeah but I'm not obsessed with used and like yeah the one I linked is used refurbished but there be some better laptops if u can spend $400 for a new one etc
