Good price & great displays - go the blue!
ps. worth turning all the smarts off and running in AP mode and you'll get the most out of the battery. Smart / fitness watches aren't Casio's forte.

    • -1

How long do you get with the smarts on? Love my casio, the only feature I want is a vibrate when my phone sends a notification/rings. Would this still be too taxing on the battery life?

      • -1

Dunno maybe a year or less with everything running, just do a quick search.

Some people don't want all that and notifications going off but you ouks certainly set it up. Solar would be better if that's what you want (or get a Fitbit charge 5/6 which does everything much much better (and wear an old-school square on left hand).

The Casio Move app is poo.

        • -1

Honestly fitbit can eat a bag of d*cks. On principle alone I just think its a pisstake to get people to pay for a subscription service when they have just spent several hundred dollars on a device. I used to have one and it worked but it was jank. I have had a particular interest in these cause I really just want a watch that vibrates so I can leave my phone on my work bench, unfortunately google isn't much help for battery life in my specific case, its all or nothing. Might just have to take the punt thank you anyway!

          • -1

@doobey1231: This again. Free version is fine and fully functional, no need to pay for premium.

Worlds ahead of that shitty Move app.

            • -1

@G-rig: Missing my point mate, entirely. Dunno why you are saying "this again" either, I am giving you my personal opinion as to why I refuse to buy a fitbit, it wasn't an opening for a debate.

              • -1

@doobey1231: Oh right, what was your point.

I assumed you are one of the usual people that attack it on every Fitbit thread (but apologies if not; I can't be bothered checking).

Anyway it doesn't worry me but sounded like you were of the opinion that you need to pay for the subscription and not just use the free version like everyone else.

                • @G-rig: I said on principle alone I don't like the idea of supporting a company that tacks on a subscription service to a several hundred dollar product that's all, doesn't go any further than that really. Was just responding to your suggestion of a fitbit. Unfortunately they all do that. I don't even care for the app beyond just setting the thing up.

                  • @doobey1231: Oh fair enough, but not uncommon. Think about Strava, Microsoft etc you wouldn't like that either.

If anything it was better before google took it over but there was still a premium tier.

Once the apps and software become very feature rich and more involved it's pretty normal to require more development, maintenance and support. Like I said the free Fitbit app is totally fine.

Probably explains why the Casio move app is so shit, because it's free and a half arsed attempt by them. Nothing is cheap software wise generally.

Just go the GBD200, but don't expect it to be that smart, you're buying it for the mops display.

                    • @G-rig: Microsoft isn't selling me an $800 product to subscribe to their 365 program so I don't see them as the same. any off the shelf computer will have a copy of windows included with it.

                      • @doobey1231: Ok forget about Microsoft only added that at the end. The software is built into the price, still not free (which you'd know if you've ever built a PC).

Strava is an exact comparison and both are fully functional without buying premium

So are you getting the G-Shock or just enjoying the banter.

                        • @G-rig: There is a LTT video worth watching that explains how windows is essentially freeware at this point, worth checking out. As for strava, yeah i don't use fitness software, but if it is like fitbit then they sit in the same category for sure.

I am just responding to a discussion at this point. Undecided on the product because my question has not been answered yet, the search continues.

                          • @doobey1231: Yeah I never pay much for windows and have had a few upgrades.

Oh right I thought it was 8-12 months battery with everything turned on, obviously YMMV and up to 2y in AP mode.

Have a look at Reddit (gbd200 battery life, and YouTube reviews perhaps). These sales don't go forever so the decision will be made for you at some point, but free returns is good with Amazon.

the issue is with casio you get all notification or nothing, cant pick and choose

1D is now my default watch even though I've got multiple G-Shock and Baby-Gs. The MIP display is so clear and easy to read (especially important if you've got "old" eyes :P) and the vibration alarm is great so as not to wake the wifey. I've got it in airplane mode as I'm not worried about the "smarts". Only time these days I wear a different watch these days is if I need to look a bit less "casual" when either a Seiko SNK809 comes into play or a bit more "classy" when I pull out my grandfathers 1969 Omega Seamaster :)

    Tempted on the purple

    • +3

I think it would look good on you

    • +1

      Do it mate, YOLO.

      • Haha i was hoping to get an apple ultra 2 in this current sale but as i predicted, black not part of the promo…

        • +1

Yeah hard to get many discounts on Apple, what about JB Hi-Fi?

10 times the price but then you couldn't /wouldn't need to wear any other watches if you're wearing that.

          • @G-rig: I wear 2 watches on both hands at work, was thinking to wear 4 :P

People can put smartwatch on their leg too ;-) It can still detect heart rate.

  • ohh so tempted but too many watches already and plus a galaxy watch

    • How many watches do you have? Rotate them for use between weekdays and weekends.

I wear 2 watches on both hands at work, was thinking to wear 4 :P

      • hmm total 10 normal watches (dress and casios) and 1 smart watches

        • 1 smartwatch can be put on your leg. Try it 😉 to detect your heart rate.

  • G-Shock Classic DW9052 is being sold by canon store…..something isn't looking okay here..

  • Has G-shock released a square with MIP display, bluetooth and tough solar?

    • check out the DW-H5600 series

    • Not really, just the other abomination with the paw print (GBD300 I think).

That's what everyone wants, and they need to scrap the smart watch crap. This one is as close as it gets, just change battery every 2y (if use as I recommended above), cheap enough to do yourself.

    • disregard my previous comment btw - the watch I mentioned isn't proper tough solar

  • If only Casio G-Shock GBD200 Black is also on sale.

Tagging mg_k… it's on sale now.

    • Thanks for the heads up WatchNerd. Let's see if it'll get even cheaper as I've seen it sold for $133 on Amazon before.

      I'm waiting patiently :)

      • I remember that. It may not go that low again in a hurry - maybe Black Friday.
(ended up returning, and got a blue one for a bit down the track, $150 and some cashback isn't bad at all).
