        Thanks for the information.

  • Can this card use to buy discounted Woolworths E gift card from Gift card portal?

    • no

    • +1

You can if you pay via PayPal

  • +1

Has anyone come across a store which has got a decent supply of variable load cards?

    • Only 50$ ones at my local WWS

    • +2

Went to 4 stores this morning
All had no variable cards but plenty of 50/100’s 🤣

    • +1

Negative, have tried half a dozen stores with no luck!

  • +8

I seriously don’t know how these bastards can get away with advertising such promotions and never having the stock. It’s not like that these aren’t planned well in advance.

    • +5

Complain. That's the only way we can get them to do something about it.

      • Complain to Woolworths or Vanilla or ACCC?

        • +1

Start with the app. Don't go to ACCC without demonstrating you've tried to resolve with the retailer first.

  • I've been to 5 stores today, no luck either.

  • Unable to purchase with prepaid coles mastercard physical card.

    • Okay I thought of trying out

  • Visited 3 stores (Vic) early this morning - no Variables

  • +3

I checked in 2 stores in Sydney and also no variable cards available.

This could almost be considered an unobtainable deal!

  • No stock nearby

  • Plenty of stock in Hobart. But not on the shelf. Hidden in the cabinet.

    • How did you get it? I wonder it could be the case for other stores. Do they try to hide them?

      • My usual tactic is to visit smaller stores with fewer customers. The gift card rack in this particular store is tiny. The $50 and $100 cards were on the rack. The variable load cards are in a drawer behind the counter next to the cigarettes. I ask nicely and patiently wait for them to find them. Has worked for me in all previous Vanilla Gift Card promotions.

        • Thanks for your info I finally obtained it in Indooroopilly QLD by the staff searching in the cupboard in the card counter.

          • @HoshinoKanade: Have the bonus points showed up in your account? I purchased yesterday and still have no points showing…..

        • Some staff so lazy by not going extra mile to check the drawer. Have to tell them like we are their boss right ?

  • Have also been to about 5 Woolies and haven't found any stock

  • +4

This is dodgy AF, no stores with variable in stock. Bait and switch almost.

    • Same in QLD. Not even a single one is there.

  • Couldn't find any in Perth CBD

    • As expected bugger all stock in the suburbs. At this point this is just some piss poor planning.

  • Went to 3 Woolworthless store n no variable cards available. Scam

  • +2

They had them at Huonville TAS. I got 2 variables. And thanks to the person who said you can do split payments with an HSBC debit card on the self checkout. I did it and it worked! I made an extra $20!

    • @tulip99 Is there a limit on how many split payments you can do? Did you do it in 1 transaction?

      • +1

I did 11 split payments. $99 x 10 and then one $9.90 or whatever was left over. I got a $500, a $484, plus the card activation fees so it added up to $999.90 I think. Just under $1k.

Yes, one transaction at the self serve checkout.

        • What's the benefit of keeping the transaction just under 1k?

          • +1

@powerhead: Over 1k in gift card spend requires manager approval. I thought it excludes activation fees though. The checkout system also asks for your name and other details in case you want a TRS refund (not applicable for gift cards of course).

        • Usually the card will be block for 3 subsequent transactions within few seconds due to fraudulent prevention. I did twice with hsbc for $1k x 2. Was not blocked at that time, but got the phone calls few hours later that they have blocked my card.
In the past, also happened with small amounts.

        • How did you get $10 off though. I'm trying to work that out because isn't peach activation fee $7.95?

    • +1

Just visiting Tassie this weekend and quite a few variable load left at Sorrell TAS. Picked one up to try on the Shopback egift card platform.

Can this card added to Google Play wallet?

  • No $500 ones at the 3 stores I visited today in Brisbane.

  • 5 stores innee Melbourne, nothing. Lodging complaint in Rewards app as I type.

  • About 20 at one of ours in north of Brisbane and none at the other.

  • There's 20 of the variable cards left at Cherrybrook Woolworths NSW

    • @pandarps are you sure? I rang this store earlier this afternoon and the staff checked and said no variable gift cards are available.

    • +1

I bet they are dark blue or white background Visa vanilla gift cards, which are not included in this week's promotion.

      • Yes, this is what I'm thinking too but just need it confirmed.

I also asked when more stock will be available and she spoke to another staff and said they don't know.

Getting these cards is like winning the lotto! Lol

  • On my 5th Woolworths store visit in Sydney today, I finally found some $25-500 Variable cards….did get a tip off from a mate though. I visited the same store on Monday and there was nothing so clearly must have been restocked at some time!

Took 6 cards (1 left on shelf) and paid for 2 at a time with diff Everyday Rewards card accts and volia…paid off my BAS this evening.

    • Which store was it?

  • great

  • +1

One left at my local, however, it was only there because it had been tampered with. Slightly ripped packaging. Showed the staff and sure enough, CV number and four digits on the front had been scratched off.

Was worthwhile though because they went and grabbed one from behind the counter from stock that had just come in but wasn't on the shelf yet.

  • Went to 5 Woolworths in Bayside Melbourne and only $50’s and $100’s 🤦🏼‍♂️

      • +1

no, added to shopback app in the payment section.

        • Are you able to add to Shopback these 2 days? I was able to earlier this week but last 2 days , it tells me can't due to security reasons.

  • https://www.mybalancenow.com/ website is not working as usual. How to check balance on the card other than call the customer helpline number?

        Thank you

  • A good stack of variables at Mt. Annan

    • Oh thanks. I'll head there while I'm down in the area.

  • I've been to a lot of suburbs for the first time in the past few days because of this promo lol

    • Looks like they did exactly what they wanted you to do.

  • Anyone find in inner west / south Sydney ??

  • Anyone find any variable in WA, North of the river. I have been to about 4 the past 4 days and there are NO variable at all.

    • Bugger all stock in WA. Feels a bit like baiting at this point.

    • None at Kingsway, Balga, Yokine or Highgate today.

  • I went to 2 x woollies and both did not charge me the $7.95 activation fee, is this normal?

Also it says 0 points, does it take very long for points to appear on Rewards account?

    • Did you buy the correct cards?

    • That doesn't sound normal. Suspect you got the wrong card if it says 0 points and no activation fee.

      • Also: suspect you got the wrong card if you could still find these cards on the shelf on day 6 of this promo.

(I failed to find any on day one in my locals, before 9am…)

  • Bought 2 of the variable loads ($500 each) at my local woolies and when I got home, I noticed the 3rd set of numbers of the card number on the front of the card have been scratched out and there's no 3 digit security code on the back of the card. What I find weird is that the scratched out part is quite a thin scratch and wouldn't have scratched out the entire 4 numbers

In saying that, these were the last 2 cards that store had and it was a less affluent suburb.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Might have to contact Vanilla Visa to get this sorted as I found a post on reddit with the exact same situation

    • +2

If the gift card was tampered with prior to you purchasing it then the store should refund you. They'll probably try to weasel out of it by claiming that "gift cards can't be refunded" but they can, it's just that they usually don't want to do it.

You can try getting a replacement from the gift card company but I've been through that before and it's not what I'd call a quick and easy process.

      • The gift cards don't appear to be tampered with from the purchase (it was sealed properly) and it wasn't until I actually opened it and realised it was missing the numbers.

I called the Vanilla Visa contact number from their website (they have a 24 hour line) and a lady with an indian accent answered. When I explained the situation to her, she told me to email through my full name, phone number, home address and attach pics of the gift cards receipts etc to an i2cinc.com email address.

Whilst on the phone, I googled that website and it appears to be based in Pakistan. I casually told the operator 'oh are you guys based in Pakistan?' and she promptly replied 'sorry i cannot disclose that information' and I just said to her that a quick google shows that the i2cinc company is based in Pakistan and she tried to finish the call.

I could try Woolies again tomorrow and see how I go but I'm sure they'll try and weasel their way out of the $1015 transaction but will see how I go.

        • The gift cards don't appear to be tampered with from the purchase (it was sealed properly)

No CVV and the third set of digits scratched off sounds like a textbook case of gift card tampering. They do such a good job of opening and re-sealing the packets that it's often impossible to tell that a card has been tampered with from the outside.

Whether it was tampered with or not doesn't actually matter, though. The fact is that they sold you an unusable product so it's on the store to refund you.

    • Yes it has happened before and looks like you probably went to Yamanto or Ipshit store like this guy

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15678175/redir

There are couple of similar cases… Is really getting risky

      • You can add Moorooka to the list of dodgy areas.

I ended up getting a refund from them about 4 days later after they did their investigation. They told me in future I could open them before purchasing to make sure it's legit. I sort of had a feeling it was too good to be true for them to have stock when every other store near me had sold out

  • For those couldn't get these cards could be a blessing

Limited stock aside, some stores have actually been putting them aside because of tampering. The packaging looks intact or very hard to tell. They generally would get the card details and scratch some of the card numbers and CVV away and put it back in the packaging perfectly. So when the card is loaded you are unable to use it due to the missing numbers.

This is in Ipswich area. Hope they catch those Bastards.

  • Spent almost $10k and used them up to pay taxes for whole family. Now awaiting for my credit card bill.

  • Managed to find some in a Metro store in Melbourne. Obscenely poor stocking by WW, but happy to build on my QFF points.
