its not Ultra enough for me.

aw man why couldnt it be 100hz. id accept that or higher.

    • How about 120Hz?

      • That's far more expensive and not a direct comparison to a cheap monitor

          Good, cheap, fast. Choose two

      • this has been on my wish list since it came out

        • Me 2 😊

According to my research, this uses exactly the same panel as the Kogan monitor.

Which is horrible thing to do since the response time on these is like 14ms, Dell just overclocked the panel waaay beyond what its capable off.

Below is the rtings review of this dell and it scored 0.8/10 in refresh rate compliance 🤦‍♂️

Those response times are atrocious for sure, though I reckon the panel is more likely the one in the U4021QW - reason being the newer U4025QW is an "IPS Black" panel with contrast closer to 2000:1, whereas Kogan's is 1000:1 like the older U4021QW.

Thanks for the video btw, super helpful for "niche" models like this where there's not much else around in the way of reviews!

  • Any feedback for 'Kogan' brand monitors? Who OEM these?

    • I've done some research before buying mine, I could only locate the panel which is made by LG Display.

      Go here: https://tftcentral.co.uk/monitor_panel_parts

      and search for 5120 x 2160

Also looks like LG Display will make WOLED panels in this resolution at 45" 240hz, these would be ridiculously awesome!

Kogan chops and changes manufacturers all the time so difficult to get a read

    • Ive used a 2x1440p kogan 27inch monitors for a couple years, had no issue with them at all. Did end up going to a dell ultrawide recently. But Price to performance seems good.

For those interested, I made a small review of this monitor when I bought it from the last deal

TLDR: pretty awesome value at $600 for productivity and simulation or strategy games.

    • Just watched it - good review! Thanks for that. I loved your comment about the Chinese font, that’s my way of knowing if something is a rebranded Chinese product or not!

I love the specs but I can’t easily bring myself to buy a Kogan monitor.

  • Is 40in too small for 5120x2160?

    • It is the same pixel density as 32" UHD monitor. You can pop in JB Hi-Fi or other retailers to see if it is OK for you.

  • kogan monitors can be hit or miss, depending on the model. i've been using a 3440x1440 ultrawide from kogan for years now with no panel issues (the plastic has micro cracks and snaps easily but nothing affecting the screen itself) but i got one of their cheaper 1080p monitors a little while back for another pc and the ghosting on it is extreme.

I got one from the previous deal, after a few days I noticed a dead pixel. Kogan accepted the return but since it sold out quickly it took around a month for the replacement to arrive. Initially they tried to give me a refund minus the shipping fee so I persisted and when it was back in stock messaged them straight away.

Also worth checking if your laptop CPU/GPU supports this resolution. My work laptop didn't (i5 gen8) but I managed to get it swapped for an i5 gen 11 which works well.

  • What monitor arm are people using with these? I do have an angle grinder…but was hoping to avoid using it on my NB H100! lol

Just FYI, for those that are looking at monitor arms for this monitor: the monitor comes with "standoff" screws for VESA mounting!

There was discussion in previous deals about the recess for the VESA mounting points being smaller than standard (a 114x114mm opening, which is too small for 115x115mm mounting plates on many monitor arms). There are also ridges within the recess that might make mounting within the recess problematic. I'm not sure if previous batches of this monitor didn't come with the standoff screws (maybe they have started including them after feedback?) - but it does come with the standoff screws now, to make the VESA mount points flush / beyond the recess, allowing any 100x100 VESA mount to be used! Hooray!

Unfortunately, the weight of this monitor without stand seems to be about 8.8kg - and seems to be a bit too much for the North Bayou H100 (9kg) I have mounted it to (the hinge doesn't seem to hold tilt position property). An arm rated for 9kg might work, but will probably be pushing it. I'd go for something 10kg+ to be safe.

tl;dr - monitor comes with standoff screws, and any monitor arm (with sufficient capacity) should work for this monitor.

      Hope this helps someone!

  • Just an FYI, we've noticed that with the USB-C connection, when the display is meant to power down from inactivity, the screen blacks out, but the back light stays on. We have to turn off the monitor when done for the day. Not sure if it's just our one. Apart from that, fantastic panel for productivity.
