pretty sure the whole range has a temporary 2k price drop. even the new alpha ute :)

  • +10

$1000 extra for 110km extra range is a better choice. Otherwise, the MG4 $30990 is better if you just need a cheap EV (also has more advertised range than the standard Ora 310 vs 350km)

      • +2

How many MG4's have you owned?

        Drive.com.au would disagree -> https://www.drive.com.au/reviews/mg-mg4-trophy-international…

A quote from the article: But the driving experience is bloody impressive. The MG 4 handles gentle use with the typical EV unflappability, but also seems to really enjoy being asked to make faster progress in a way that very few cars in this part of the market do.

        • +1

Ive driven several, and outright refuse them at hire shops now.

Drive are corporate shills if theyre calling any mg, ever, impressive. Thats a relative metric, and there is zero comparing those shit boxes.

          • +1

@Ademos: I’ve heard this about their ICE but never the EV. I’d be looking at this level my elderly parent, so your feedback is definitely about the drive of the MG EV?

          • +2

            @Ademos: Lol

The Mg4 has won multiple awards
I have a feeling youre in the minority.

Ive driven one and it feels like a go cart, in a good way.

          • @Ademos: You must be confusing mg3 with the mg4. What hire shops hire out mg4?

          • @Ademos: I got my parents an MG4 excite 51 yesterday and they ( and I of course) are loving it. Old car was a 2017 Camry for reference. No I am not a mindless drone being paid to say this. Can provide proof if you want.

The only annoying thing is that the settings aren't 'sticky' - it won't stay in eco mode for example after resetting the car.

Frankly feels like you're the one being paid to speak against MG here.

        • +1

Nothing against you but ALL the reviewers are PAID, all. I remember few years ago they've ALL been pushing Kia as some wow marvellous brand as they've been paying left and right everyone possible to sponsor.

Oldest story ever since existence of humanity scratch for a scratch. Nothing new.

But we in the west primitives as we are we fall for the false, fabricated patriotism every BLOODY time and that's bloody enough to go and buy one :)

          • @drazenm: Top gear had a bit about that. Think it was Clarkson exposing what goes on. Favourable reviewers get $$$ but also VIP treatment. Paid visits to car shows etc

          • +2

@drazenm: But I actually test drove one and was bloody good. I swear I'm not getting paid to say that.

        • -1
          • @lowey71: The ICE Mg's are known to be quite unreliable.

The Evs however are far simpler and extremely reliable

        • Got 1 MG4 at first, one week later another one, because it’s gooooooooooooooooooooood

      • Have you tried Tesla

      • Interesting comment. Every car review seems to say the RWD of MG4 is better than FWD of other EVs such as this Ora and BYD Dolphin. I have even read the feedback from MG4 owners at Whirlpool Forum, most say the car drives well.

      • +1

Sure you’re not thinking of the MG3?

    • @ shxhshzhz
Someone advised that the standard range is a LiFePO4 battery, and the extended is a ternary (cobalt/manganese/nickel cathode) battery….the ones that burn spectacularly.

If they both were LitFePO4 I'd agree with you, but I have no interest in the fireball type, regardless of how well the manufacturer has worked out cell cooling to "stop" problems.

  • +1

Depends if you're concerned with the battery or not, assuming the extra range battery isn't Lithium-Phosphate?

Again, I only posted this as it wasn't obvious with the other deal that the standard price had now been dropped. I know I only knew about this 'standard' car price from from word of mouth and I check this site regularly. Happy for this to be removed though.

    • +1

The post is OK. It's not a dupe as that other post is just for the Extended Range.

  • $30k for MG4 is a better bargain

    • Yeah, maybe on paper… but it's too ugly for me.

The Ora isn't beautiful, but copying Porsche and Tesla's styling has made it palatable.

I'm personally waiting for the Hyundai Inster to reach Australia as an affordable EV.

      • +3

Shame it won't be affordable. Will be in that 40k bracket.

        • I believe it's meant to be <$35k.

Hyundai's really trying to compete with GWM Ora and MG4 here, so if it's $10k more then they've completely missed the mark.

      • I think it's a quite good looking car and more interesting than the others

        • The exterior of MG4 is quite nice, however for the interior the Ora knocks the MG4 out of the park. I always say the interior of MG4 is dark, gloomy, spartan with comparatively low-tech equipment. A few months ago MG announced they are going to have a major upgrade of the interior of the MG4, not sure when will it happen?

      • Never understood why people get so hung up on the way a car looks tbh. Probably because cars have become so devoid of personality there’s nothing else to talk about except interiors and exteriors

At the end of the day, you’re getting a boring commuter shitbox (not a slight, just the reality). The car’s design is not going to change that.

        • I'm with you… it's a funny world out there.

I mean, I love the shape of E type jags, and Mk 2 jags….. but modern cars are very similar, and never in my eyes a work of art standing still.

          • @rooster7777: Would've thought the styling of the 2024 Genesis G80 would've been down your alley if you liked the look of early Jags?

            • @besttechadvisor: I see what you mean….but nope. It looks like someone nicked the front off a big arsed bentley, and stuck it on the front of a mark 2 ish shape.

Just to be clear though, I did single out 2 particular old jags. I reckon the mk 10 jags and 420Gs etc are abominations that should have been drowned at birth. When marketing and engineering form a committee, and try to yank tankify something into a frankenstein…. yeck

I do have a soft spot for X300 jags and their 8 cylinder stablemates, but I'll probably not fill a spot in a stable with one.

How could these wall chargers are almost double the Tesla one.

    • +5

      Inflated RRP

      • Most of the chargers are inflated

      • RRP to RRP, still not answer my question.

        • Already answered, the RRP has been inflated. Now way GW is going to sell these wall chargers at $1690 because no one will buy them. Same thing also happened to recent BYD promotion, they were advertising giving away their wall chargers (worth $999) when you buy a BYD Dolphin, but that particular wall charger is now being sold separately for $499.

    • Shocking price

  • +15

Kia really dropped the ball by not taking that name.

    • What name? Ora?

  • +2

With Europe voting to impose up to 50% tariffs on Chinese EVs overnight, id be worried about the price holding up for very long with the glut of cars

    • Do we live in Europe

      • +1

Look past the end of your nose. Where is China going to export all of their EVs if both the EU and US have banned them? More price drops coming.

      • @ botchie
        dohhhhh

    • Yes but they have an industry to protect where we have mainstream media.

  • -3

Time to buy a V8, these are all so disposable.
A barely damaged Tesla M3 that’s deemed as a stat write off can’t even fetch 5k at auction.

    • -1

A good muscle car will always be the best , not sure how long they will allow it's sale and all but no EVs can stretch that itch

    • @ Wiadro
if that's true… interesting! The value of the battery would far exceed that.

  • +6

I'll wait when these entry level EVs drop to $25k, 100% sure we can see that happen within 2025.

    • Agreed, unless Albo puts 100% tariff on it

      • +2

We don't have any car manufacturing industry here any more. Dunno why if he is doing that unless getting bribed by Toyota, Mazda, Ford, etc to protect the ICE cars.

        • -1

Ask him about luxury car tax while you're at it….

They (governments) will stick a tax on anything they think they can get away with.

          • @rodericb: Another legal way to bribe politicians…

          • @rodericb: nothing to do with entry level EVs… but yep, your logic is
            umm…

      • Albo doesn't decide duty levels.

        • well… governments do…. apart from when severely restricted by international trade agreements (so most of the world)

    • It already close to 25k with some dealer in WA

  • Once batterys were extra but now with EVs, they give you the battery but then reef you a new one for the required charger! Toss in the added cost of wiring it in and thats assuming its your home and not some complex that will need approval and denial as insurance quotes go north due to the EV bomb/fire hazzard!

Sop with care, new better chinese EVs are comming soon and thats the reason for the EV collpase as now your care is the new iFlop whitegoods device

    • Not sure of others, but MG comes with a mains charger. Other one is an optional fast charger. They seem to have started the "price war".

  • +1

    I’d prefer the Rita Ora

    • -1

      Love her

      • I love you too raj let’s run away together

        • Hahaha

    • I have an Ora and a Kia, so Kia Ora

    • @ theHMASfriendship
do you reckon the suspension is umm…aftermarket?

      • I just accidently did a google image search for rita ora topless…. I know I need to get out more, but I'm still not sure.

  • +1

Would byd be the best option for the Chinese EVs? I still don't trust GWM after driving one of their early vehicles.

    • No one knows how good or bad quality the current Chinese EVs are in the long run, they probably won't compete a Toyota quality I assume.

      • +1

Is that why no one is buying Toyota ?

        • +1

Toyota is currently overpriced too much.

        • Why people are not buying Toyota — price, but also availability. Very long lead times on some models.

      • +1

Impressive, you manage to disagree with yourself in a single sentence.

  • +1

Mg4 $31k with 10 years warranty beats this hands down

    • I'd take any manufacturer's warranty with a massive grain of salt. Try getting a Mitsubishi drive train battery replaced when it's down to 50% capacity and within warranty.

    • +1

Yeah, how many of these brands will exist in 10 years time though?

      • well, they have the track record of having existed in this market for ummm
        how many years?

  • +3

Cheaper than petrol reliant corolla, i30, golf, cerato etc.. what an age we live in

  • Quite a nice car, especially for the money. LR is definitely the one to go for.

  • I was in China a few weeks back and witnessed an EV getting a whole battery replaced at petrol station in a few mins.

I would wait until that technology and service is available here. All the Didis I took were EVs but I wouldn’t say they r nice. Very basic and old even though it’s not that old. Actually put me off EVs.

The nice cars in China are still the European cars. BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Range-rover etc

    • Are you talking about EVs from BMW, Mercedes and Porsche?

  • Spend a little more for a Tank 300. Killer car!

  • Suck on that, inflation!

  • Genuine question, lets say this car has 300km range, what are we expecting it to have in 5 years - what's going to be acceptable? 80%?

    • The LFP battery tends to outlas the rest of the car. I would guess you will still have more than 80% battery capacity after 5 years unless you have driven 300,000+km in 5 years.

    • 3000 battery cycles on LFP. That 8.5 years if you charge every day which you won’t unless you are an Uber driver or similar.

  • I knew there was a reason why Ozbargain had so many eneloop and power brick deals in its lore.

It's all just to get us ready for these EVs.

  • How is this not a duplicate?

    • because it's not? I thought the other one was for the extended range battery model.

  • Comes with a Great Wall charger.
