      • Nice. Surgeon on ozbargain. Public or private work? No need to reply now, can wait after you close up your patient. Haha

        Urology? ;) username checks out.

    • How about lawyers, public servants without children, and CEOs.

    • I have known quite a few veterinarians in my time, but no rich ones. Agree with the dentist and anesthetist tho.

Note: Anesthetists and Veterinarians are the two professions with the highest rates of suicide.

  • 360 watt hour battery. Hahaha
This ebike is for ignorant folk with money to burn. Would love to meet them…I have some magic beans for sale.
You could buy a Stealth Bomber ebike for this price.

"ignorant" - compares a hub motor to a middrive… Lol

    • +1

stealth bomber lol, this is a serious mountain bike, not what you ride to KFC bro. Hope that clarifies it for the ignorant folk out there.

smaller battery = lower weight. this suits a niche for people who are fit but still want a bit of assistance. a mate has one, yep range is a problem when he rides with full gas ebikers. overpriced for sure but this is a super high end spec and trek makes bikes that are great to ride.

    • 60kg motor bike equivalent vs lightest dual mtb ebike on the market. Ignorance lol

here is one for you, the stealth is illegal in several states for public roads use

Stealth are great bikes but your argument is just dumb

    • Found the fat middle aged bloke that rugs up in winter all in black, ski gloves, neckerchief, fluoro vest to commute 10 kms to work on his B2 bomber stealth bike, fuggin hell
This is for actual mountain biking.

  • Wow.. how big is the motor??
    500w , 1000w or 2000w?

So many commenters are obviously ignorant to MTBs and what they are being sold for at full RRP.

This is a light E-Bike designed to still actually ride like a MTB if you are doing technical trails where you might want to lift the bike (bunnyhop) over things.
It's 18.6kg, add sealant, pedals, spares, water bottle and you'd have a real world weight of around 20kg so only a ~5kg weight addition to the non ebike version.

Put a bigger battery in it is going to add a lot of weight and change the dynamics of it.

Yes $13k is a lot of money but when you consider the newly released Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Pro is $14,500 and it doesn't have a motor in it (ie it's a normal MTB) then it is relatively a good deal (The S-Works Stumpy 15 is $19,500, again no motor!)

If you're asking how big the motor or battery is to judge this eMTB then you're missing the point of a light eMTB.

Had to read and laugh at all of the comments until someone posted something sensible that explains the price of the bike….It's a proper Mountain bike they have made electric and kept the weight down, not an ebike for commuters !!

  • +2

For that price, they could have thrown in some free pedals.

  • These comments really don't get it. If you wanted to, you can actually commute pretty much anywhere with an eBike. I can put my eBike on charge every night, wake up and put it on turbo and cruise to work every day if I wanted to.

    • +2

With other ebikes yes, but not really with this one as it has a tiny battery and motor.

  • Bought 2 thanks OP

  • Did you know you can Associate lease an e-bike through salary sacrificing and your employer.
Works to be a really good deal and actually puts money back in your pocket.
I associate lease 5 cars (3 EV's and 2 ICE) and am about to get a $17,000 ebike, all up about $20,000 more in the family budget each year.

EV's are FBT exempt, scooters are not. So unless you work for an organisation which doesn't pay FBT then they're going to pay 47% tax on the grossed up fringe benefit you're claiming - so it actually ends up costing them a lot more than the benefit you get.

      • +1

Scooters, that is 100% correct but e-bikes are FBT exempt and able to be leased in the same way a car is. There is no cost to the company at all.

        • Good spot. When I looked it up I saw mention of "electric scooter" and "electric motorcycle" and assumed that ebikes were included under one of those definitions. Looking for ebike info specifically brought up this info https://taxstore.com.au/news/e-bikes-fbt-and-salary-sacrific… (this is the more easily digestible information from https://www.ato.gov.au/law/view/pdf/pbr/cr2020-068.pdf)

          • @macrocephalic: I go through FAA (Financial Advisors Australia) but there are other companies that can do Associate Leasing, it was created in the same document as Novated leasing back in 1998, just nobody knows about it, there is very little money in it for Novated leasing companies so they don't offer it. But for an associate if can bring about a 20% improvement in money for the household income.

  • Damn I just bought three of these yesterday when they were $22,999.99.

  • +1

How dare they pedal this sort of deal without pedals.

  • I wouldn't even pay that much if it did come with pedals…

  • This apple pricing trend is getting out of hand
