God damn that is an expensive bike

    • +30

New car is cheaper than the original price

      • Not anymore

      • +8

New car is also probably cheaper to service too. I just replaced my chain and cassette on my eMTB at a lovely cost of $915 after about 2,000km.

        • +3

Did you actually need a XX1 cassette though? Pushy's have them on sale for $550 from time to time. I've changed mine to a XG-1295 10-50 as they are sub $400

          • +1

@Guesty: Look, I don’t you’re right. But I’m running a trek 9.9 AXS which I don’t need either. I accept the price to have the nice things in life!

I’m not complaining, just pointing out they’re more expensive to service than a car, even if I was buying a sub $400 cassette every 2,000km it’s still way more than servicing my OzB favourite euro that’s out of warranty.

            • @Pelicannn: replacing cassette after only 2000km? chain wears faster on an ebike. You should change the chain more often before damaging the cassette

              • @spad: Chain had next to no stretch. 10 tooth cog was slipping like a bitch making it unrideable.

                • @Pelicannn: Really?! I need a new chain every 500-600km. The cassette is still ok after 2000km.

It's either your chain measurement tool/method is wrong or your AXS cassette isn't durable.

BTW, it's unlikely a chain can last more than 1000km even on a push full suspension bike.

                  Get one of these https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.…

                  • @spad: Wasn’t the OG chain. I just replaced the chain and cassette at the same time.

        • Labour $25!! That's so cheap and how it should be.

          • @Naigrabzo: To be fair, my LBS is amazing! Shout out to Push n Pedal in Gippsland! (Mallard Cycles are also excellent so I’m very lucky where I live).

It’s one of the reasons why I’m happy to pay in store pricing vice buying online parts through Pushys. Their service costs are way too cheap and I’m always very well looked after.

      push bike*

      • +4

Well at least this one can half push itself

      • e

    • Sounds like a high yield investment.

  • +22

    Hmmm this or honda cbr650r?

    • +42

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

    • +2

I actually sold my cbr250 for an elec bike - the rego and insurance was killing me

      • What did you buy?

        • not this :D
some basic nasty e-bike which still does the job except the annoying brakes

      • +2

In Qld rego + CTP would have been $477pa. I don't know what sort of insurance you had, but you surely didn't need comprehensive for a CBR250.

I do understand though, I needed a way to get my young kids to school earlier this year and was considering a second family car, but found that I could get a 2kw scooter and attach a bicycle trailer to it for under $2k. It's legal and has essentially no maintenance costs, but is enough to do the couple of km trip to school.

        • definitely more in NSW, close to 1k I believe
the covid downtime rego had costed me the entire bike :(

    • or 100's of great used bikes.. Could buy roadbike + dirtbike LOL!

    • This one can ride on footpath and pedestrians and yiu'll probably get away with it

  • +15

    Hmm, this or the MG4?

    • Definitely MG4 a much better buy than this.

    • +2

Just on face value, one has 2 wheels and the other has 4. Go with the 4 wheels :)

      • Get both if you Associate Lease and put some money back in your bank.

      • So you're saying to get two bicycles?

        • You could.
Have a look at Associate Leasing, basically your Associate buys the bike or car and leases to you just like a Novated lease company does except the Associate can be your spouse, 18 to child or a friend. The ATO calls it allowed income sharing. Think of a Tesla MYLR, the leasing payments, pay it off in 3 1/2 yrs and by the end of a 5 yr lease you've got $45k in the bank and a car worth say $50k all up $100k and you've used a new EV for the past 5 yrs and it's cost you nothing. Although smaller numbers it is the same with an ebikes Associate Lease, $15k to buy, end of lease you have $12-15k in the bank and a bike you could sell for $5-7k.

          • @groveraus: I honestly dont understand this but appreciate your wisdom

            • @assarabbiya: It basically means you can lease a car or an ebike and you can make money for you family budget. PM me directly if you want more details.
Question for everyone, why do Novated lease companies make so much money? Associate leasing is just the same but on a smaller scale.

    An expensive balance bike

  • +1

    Hmm, thiis or walk?

  • +25

this or 10000 bottles of baby oil …..

    • +22

      Diddy is that you?

      • No Diddy.

        • -3

Kinda explains why he changed his name to P Diddy

      • +4

“I’m like a R-A-P-E-R. Got so many S-As (huh) / Wait, he didn’t just spell the world ‘rapper’ and leave out a P, did he?” - Song Fuel by Eminem and JID. Released in July. Em tried to warn us.

        • +25

I tried to warn y’all too

        • -1

          S-As: Sexual Assaults?

        • July isn't really warning though, he was first used for rape in November last year

          • -1

@greennick: first used? Sorry don't really understand what you are saying. July release. I expect he would've written the album in 2022/2023 at a guess He is known for his intense work ethic, perfectionist and often spends months or even years crafting his lyrics.

            • @seamonkey: Sued, autocorrect.

It was 8 months late to be a warning. Great lyrics. I can't see anything shown when it was written, though a lot of his recent stuff has been turned around quickly, so I'm not sure it was before November last year.

    • LMAO! Can you use baby oil on the chain??

  • +14

My pushbike costs more to service per year then my car.

This eMTB, uses components that cost 10x more than those on my bike.

A replacement derailleur on this bike will set you back around a grand.

What's the point in getting the lightest components on an ebike that wear out many times quicker than entry level components, when the motor is doing most of the work anyway?

    • +1

From those of my riding friends who are looking at E-MTBs they only want the assistance to get up the hill. They want the descending experience to be the same or similar to their existing ~15kg no motor MTB for handling on tight and techy trails. These lighter E-MTBs are sub 20 kg so it's basically only an extra 5kg to have a hopefully a similar trail feel.

    • the really light high-end components are a luxury that would be compared to someone spending $250k on a car.

i mean yeah the Hyundai Getz is going to carry 4 people and a small amount of luggage perfectly fine at highway speeds, just like a Cayenne would….

if you're going to compare a car to a bike then worth comparing the lack of registration & insurance costs with an eMTB too

    • +1

Servicing a cheap bike is a pretty simple DIY job. I’m not mechanically inclined, but I do pretty much all the work on our mountain bikes. That’s one of the big advantages of a cheap bike - you can mess about and learn how they work with no real negative consequences if you make a mess of it.

I’d be less inclined to look after something like this myself.

  • +3

rkn i can haggle with them to include the pedals @ 13k?

    • +13

For this price I'd expect it to include someone to do all the pedaling anyway

  • +3

    FBT applicable?

  • +2

The reviews on the actual site are funny

  • +11

    $12,999.99 - (Excludes Pedals)

    🤣🤣🤣

  • -1

    "ThAnKs oP, BoUghT 4"

  • wow! this is one expensive cycle

  • +1

That's the bike version of Apple and Samsung selling the phones first without earphones. Then they decided to not include the charger anymore. Be warned, next year it'll be excluding pedals and saddle since we all have one already anyway. Go the profit marg… environment!

    • +2

Not sure if you don't understand cycling or trolling…

      • +1

        He could be cyclically trolling

  • Thanks OP,
Going to test ride this baby tomorrow!

  • NO PEDALS? That is crazy.

    • +6

at this level people usually put their own pedals on

    • -2

I suppose you don't need them. Hopefully includes foot rests.

    • +5

Pedals are usually matched to shoes, so not much point including then

  • +10

$12,999.99 for a bike, and I'd be expecting some gold plated pedals.

    • but think of the bragging rites you'd have going for a ride with mates on their cheap shit $10,000 pushbikes…

  • +12

What advantages does this bike have over, say, a train? Which I could also afford.

    • +4

Well, you’ll notice how the heated gas pedal warms your feet while… gently massages your buttocks.

    • +4

Considering that an HCMT train costs roughly $35 million a pop, the advantage of this bike is that it's only 0.0371% of the price.

    • This one can go down mountains and do jumps

      • +6

A train can do that as well. But only once.

  • Thanks OP, might buy for the kids for Christmas.

    • You stil have to pay those alimony & child support

  • +8

    NDIS funded?

    • The original price is the NDIS price.

  • What is the range on this?

    • +5

WOW its a 360wH battery. Absolutely paltry. this is possibly the worst bike deal ive seen in years

      • +4

23k for a bike, ya. The margins must be huge on this thing. Feel sorry for anyone who bought one. Then again, they probably would have more spare spending money than us even if they bought ten of these for fun.

        • that battery will last bugger all time going back up a mountain. i wouldnt ride on less than 750wH if this was my use case

      • +6

It’s an ultra light emtb, that’s why it has a 360wh battery and tq50 motor. It’s not a ebike from Aldi

This kind of bike non electric would easily be around 10k+ mark anyway

  • This or a pulsar SSS

    • +1

Triple S bro, all day ecery day. Or a GTiR for this kind of money

  • +2

this is still crazy overpriced, and no the specs still dont justify it. this is an eMTB, so its not a competition machine where the absolute lightest and best components are needed. A $5-6K eMTB will do everything this can. For something targeting recreational riders, i just cant understand the strategy here at all

  • How is this $23K even on Special at $13K? Can you even get insurance?
Can you imagine someone stealing this and you'll be out of pocket, such a risky purchases.

  • i was going to buy 2, but it doesn't come with pedals. you aren't going to rip me off.

  • Review on website:

Pros: bike is fantastic. Work Mr great long battery life. Super affordable as well. Cons:getting divorced.

  • wow this cost more than my xr6 turbo

    • More than my pintara, hiace, forester and second hiace combined.

  • -2

This is much more worthwhile for roughly the same price: https://www.frey.bike/products/voyager-ex-beast

    • +3

No it's not, that's a heavy piece of crap

    • If you want to ride these on normal roads then keep in mind that most states have a 250W continuous power limit, and NSW has a 500W limit. Anything over that is illegal for road use. Most people may think it doesn't matter since no one ever checks, but if you ever get into an accident on a public road, you could get into trouble, especially regarding liability.

  • This or order a taxi to take me to work and then home again (~12km) every workday for an entire year?

    • If you're looking at this as a commuter maybe look into submarines, hangliders and chariots for other pointless parallels.

  • +1

This is the type of bike a dentist, anesthetist or veterinarian would have lying about the garage. Ridiculously expensive, gets ridden half a dozen times a year and makes you look fabulously stylish and rich.

    My dentist owns one…

(My mother always said, "marry a dentist, anesthetist or veterinarian" $$$)

    • +1

Agree this is classic anaesthetist behaviour

      • Last time I was in for surgery the anaesthetist joked about me being an "organ donor" because I ride a motorcycle. What's the injury rate of motorcyclists vs downhill mountain bikers?

    • im a surgeon and don't have one, i better go back to school and become a dentist instead. 6 years of my life wasted studying the wrong major :(
