  • do these regen power when slowing down? helps to save brakes. my ninebot f40 has regen and works great

Most cheap ebikes don't have brake sensors at all - it's just traditional brakes and they hope you know to stop pedalling

      • Most cheap ebikes…… RRP $1,999

BRAKE: Front and Rear Disc brakes with 180mm rotors

    • Hi! The bike has a gear system within the hub that freewheels when the motor is not engaged. This makes the bike easier to ride without power.

Scooters are speed-limited, so tend to use regen down-hill. As do electric cars.
But it is rare on e-Bikes.

Can't speak for this particular bike but I have an older Smartmotion X-City and it has been great, and despite being several years old and not used that much the battery has held up well. I would definitely buy another as I think they are at the sweet spot in pricing for someone who just wants a half decent e-bike but isn't a serious cyclist.

I have found the instructions/documentation lacking. I occasionally get error codes with a specific number on the screen (motor shuts off) but there is nowhere to know what the error codes mean.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, we're stoked to hear you ride a Smartmotion XCity!

Error codes are your ebike's way of telling you which part may require servicing or your attention. If you are still seeing error codes on your ebike's display, we request you to please reach out to our team at [email protected] or use the chat option on our website to get in touch. We would love to help get this sorted for you as soon as possible.

      Thank you once again!

Think part of the point frostee was making is that error codes should be explicated in the manual.

Endlessly referring people to email/chat support (that's frequently adequate to the task or/and a fifth circle of hell) is a really janky way of telling people trust us we haz all the powerz

        • +3

Hi, thank you for sharing that, we do agree. The error codes are explained in the manual under display panel controls for all the ebikes we sell. Hope this helps, thank you

@Ride Electric: Oh ok, maybe the manuals have changed. I have had mine for a while and it was purchased elsewhere. I have trawled the Smartmotion manual, front to back and no mention of error codes. Anyway it only happens occasionally and admittedly I just 'turn it off and back on again' and it's fine. I might try get it sorted next time I get it serviced.

    • Many nanometers.

Not regarding this bike, but we have purhcased two fat fish biggie bikes from the team at Newstead and they've been amazing to deal with.

    • how are your fat fishes? have you found any hills it won't make it up? or do they eat Mt Coot Tha?

      • +2

Im over 100kg and 6ft 5 and it has made it up some big hills.
Not sure I’d ever ride it up my coot tha though.

250-350w motor. Which one is it? This is not worth $1999 at all, the "sale" price should be the RRP on something with these specs.

    • +1

Either way, 250-350w is pi$$ weak! They all seem to be 750 at a minimum these days. And other than the manufacturer of the battery, there are no specs. These details matter.

  • I bet it doesn't like moderate hills.
