I did not understand a single sentence you wrote

      • +1

You ever had a Red Bull? I've never had a Red Bull before, but I had a Red Bull last night - I really like Red Bull.

        • +1

Oh, yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time.

    • +1

The quest 3s has just been released. It's the new bottom end headset replacing the now discontinued quest 2. The 3s is quest 3 internals (processing power etc) with quest 2 optics (screen and lenses).

      • -1

So in other words not as good as quest 3 which is normally 799 or recently was 699

        • +2

yes i guess it is a surprise when cheaper stuff isnt as good as the more expensive stuff?

          • @Hornpub: Makes no sense discontinuing a newer device for an older device ok yes same internals but lens are not as good I see this 3s being a flop to be honest,
And if the quest 3 512gb stays same price then everyone will probably get that instead.
If they had kept the quest 3 128gb at quest 3s price or lower I probably grab two of them as 128gb is ok.
Not interested in getting the quest 3s as it’s not as good as the quest 3 they are getting rid of.

    • @bwatt72 what do you mean $300 less than normal is?

      • +1

Don’t know probably was meaning the 512gb being $300 less than normally is.
Why don’t they reduce the quest 3 128gb similar to 512gb more so when they are getting rid of the 128gb.
I think it’s a weird and silly move from them regarding the 128gb quest 3 as it’s better than the quest 3s.
I doubt they will reduce the quest 3 128gb until later this year or maybe after the q3 s is out but I’m hoping for a price similar to the q3 s price but something tells me is will be between 599 or 699 not that greet a price when a 512gb is currently $799.
I was looking to grab the 128gb quest 3 for son Xmas and holding out for a discounted price on it.
I personally can’t see it go less than the q3 s at 499 as the q3 128gb is slight better.

        • Im thinking of taking a mates offer for a new 128G for $550, i figure the $170 saving is worth it. I cant justify an extra $250 for the 512G.

          • @poxy001: I take your mate has one new he is selling? Don’t know why the 128gb which is getting discontinued is not on offer also maybe they have to many 512gb and want to move some.

          • @poxy001: I wanted the 128gb q3 to be on a better deal as was going to grab two one for sons Xmas and one for myself.
But i could not help myself and grabbed the 512gb.
To be honest when the quest 3 was newer last year I got the 128gb for daughter and it was $799.
I was tempted to get this for sim this year at $799 but I know it will be less from now till Xmas.
I just want to get a 128gb for son there is no argument that one has better than the other.
I would have been happy with 128gb but said bugger it and got the bigger one.
Just need a better deal on 128gb.
Just not interested in the new upcoming q3 s

  • I bought the system full price from Amazon a week back. Placed a return and ordered again today.

    • What’s the experience using quest 3?

      • Definitely worth it. Got the BoboVR S3 strap as well. Makes it really comfortable to use.

        • Did you buy it from Amazon? Camels show that there's been a price drop and it's at an ATL at $145.38.

    • So, it's a good deal?

    • I thought it was a new version of quest 3 well bugger that if it’s a slightly updated 2 lol

  • +1

I've had the quest 3 128gb for 35 days now, Turns out my return window is still open, its with auspost now being sent back. bought 512gb now for same price and a free game I would've bought.

Was tempted to wait for a psvr2 to go sale again just to see which one is best for me, But i really can't complain about the quest 3 i'm used to the grey blacks now doesn't bother me and i got like $350 in accessories to get the best comfort etc out of it.

    • Bought it from Amazon or meta directly? I think the return window is 30days for both of them

    • PSVR2 is great for GT7 but aside from that the Quest 3 is easily better in terms of both performance and value.

  • +2

BTW, to help some of those who may be wondering what 3S is. If it is in Apple iPhone terms…. it would've been called 2S rather than 3S as it is more an enhancement to 2 as it is inferior to 3, or maybe a "Quest 3 SE"

  • Anyone have any insights as to the Quest 3S vs the Quest 2?

I'm trying to look up comparisons but all I can find is links about the Quest 3 vs Quest 2.

    • +4

The 3S is just quest 3 internals with quest 2 optics (screen and lenses and limited ipd adjustment). So it'll run all the latest release games that may not have quest 2 support but won't look as nice.

If you already have a quest 2 it's not worth the switch to the 3s. If you don't have a headset that's a harder question. The pancake lenses of the 3 are certainly much nicer than the fresnel lenses of the 2/3s but depending on your level of experience it may not bother you as much.

Reviewer talking about his hands on with the 3s - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiADYYxJ0b4

      • Thank you! That was really helpful

    • +2

3S and 3 have pretty much the same hardware. Biggest difference is the lenses. I can hard recommend Q3 over Q3S, as lenses make a world of difference in ease of use/wanting to use it. Old fresnel lenses are complete dogshit when compared to Pancake lenses, especially the Pancake lenses that meta uses are fantastic. Not to mention higher resolution, but the main thing in those lenses, the viewport to actually making use of that hardware, is what matters most, and goodlord it's worth it.

      • Thanks!!

I have a Quest 2 but it seems like the Quest 3S wouldn't really be an upgrade

    • Played with the Quest 2 for a couple of months at the back end of last year when they had a great black friday deal and returned it. My initial impression was that it was cool but I wasn't really impressed. I think the single biggest thing for me that would've turned it into a seriously intriguing piece of tech is the lens. Based on my research, the pancake lens in the 3 is a real step up from the Fresnel lens used in the 2 and for me, there was enough distortion in the 2 for it to take me out of the experience. To me, the 2 was an amazing value proposition as a first step into VR head sets but the limitations were there and apparent.

Given this, with the 3S being basically the same set up as the 2 but with colour passthrough and Q3 processing power, it's a no-brainer for someone who hasn't experienced VR but for me, the main improvement I'm after isn't there in this version. When it comes to VR, the VISUAL aspect has by far the biggest impact to experience and I would pay more to jump from the Fresnel lens to the pancake lens in the 3.

  • Is the Q3 as easy to sideload 'unsupported' software onto it as my 2??

    • +2

Should be identical, you use sidequest yeah? If so I do too, works fine.

      • Excellent. Thanks. I wonder if the 3S is as open also - but personally wouldn't bother with the S

    • Even easier now. You can do it via wifi and not even need to connect to PC first time.

    • +1

Also - quest game optimiser. Best purchase, upgrades graphics of pretty much every game but some of the older q1/q2 games are SIGNIFICANTLY better graphics wise.

  • +4

Can't recommend the 3S over the 3. It's basically the Quest 2, with better performance. It still has the exact same shitty lenses that ruin it. I can't emphasise how much better the 3 pancake lenses make it to use. Treat it like the 3S is still a Q2, because really nothing's changed, and the quest 2 got a hardware upgrade that only improved performance (which wasn't it's problem, it was it's lenses and ipd adjustment being locked). The overall more comfy viewing experience and weight distribution of the Quest 3 over the 3S is worth spending the extra 300bux.

    • Really more of a 2s

  • Good. Looks like further drops for 3s around black friday 🫡

  • Quest 2, pro, and 3 (128GB) are discontinued the reason why 2 was cheap before. I believe 3 was just released no long ago.
    https://www.techradar.com/computing/virtual-reality-augmente…

    $500 for the 3 512GB and I will upgrade :)

  • -1

I shall hold further for price drops as I already have quest 2…

  • I’m looking for basic games and haven’t tried the Quest 2. Should I buy the Quest 3 128GB or the Quest 3S? I'm an average gamer, playing once or twice a week, mainly light games or sports games like cricket. What do other Quest 3 or Quest 2 users recommend?

    • +1

      Quest 3 512gb

    • gorilla tag (free), beatsaber. shooting games are fun because it kinda feels like holding a gun. the issue with online multiplayer is the lack of AU servers resulting in 300ms ping

    • Would definitely recommend the Quest 3 512GB it's well worth it at this price.

Also grab the Quest Games Optimizer and a BOBO VR halo head strap off AliExpress.

If you're into cricket IB Cricket is awesome. If you signup to Meta via a referral when activating the headset you should receive $47 in credit which should be enough to purchase the game (can also use a game referral for 15% off). If you really get into it also recommend picking up the AMVR handle attachments & extension either off Amazon or AliExpress. Great for IB Cricket, golf games, tennis games & Beat Saber.

      • +1

From what I can see, the BOBOVR is cheaper on their website then from AliExpress.

        • +1

Yeah look around and compare prices. I think Amazon sells it as well. I would recommend purchasing the halo style head strap bundle with the 2 batteries. The stock strap is rubbish and the Quest 3 especially with the Quest Games Optimizer (you're missing out big time if you don't have it) eats up battery life pretty quickly. I think it's well worth it.

  • Daughter got quest 3 last year for Xmas was $799 at the time 512gb was over $1000.
It did come with game and I think I got $10 or $15 off with some amazon deal.

Son has been asking for one since sister had one but don’t want to annoy sister buy giving him a 512gb model.
Do you think the quest 3 not the 3s obviously the 128gb will get way less being that it’s getting discontinued as I could maybe get for a good price as long as I get before Xmas.
I just don’t know why they don’t discount the quest 3 now.
Yes I know they are trying to get as much orders for the quest 3s now going forward but they are also discontinuing the quest 3 so why not offer discount now.

I have sort of been interested in one myself and at first thought this was a newer quest 3 at a new price but it’s not just an updated quest 2.

If it was quest 3 I was going to grab two one for son Xmas and one for myself which would have been $1000 for both not bad considering daughter one last year was $799.

I could buy the 512gb for myself now at $799 which yes is way less than it’s normally been but still up there but yet was same price as daughter one was last year with half the gb.
Or should I wait and see what comes Black Friday etc.
Or they might discount the quest 3 128gb which is getting discontinued and possibly get them for a better price and get one for sim and myself.

What’s your thoughts it’s very tempting the 512gb currently for myself but to be honest the 128 gb would be good enough for me.
But I’m hoping to get at least get my son the 128 gb one just so it’s keeps the both kids with same.

    • +1

I don't think the quest 3 128gb will be in stock for long and expect it to be OOS quite soon, I don't see it droppin below $699 either.

Apparently the quest 2 has been out of stock since July 2024 and they only officially announced it was End of life then but it's already been cancelled for quite a while production wise it seems.

      • The quest 2 was around for a while and dropped a few times but why come up with a newer version of it the quest 2 makes no sense maybe just sell the quest 3 at a better price.
The cheapest I have seen quest 3 as you say was $699 $499 or less is more like it.

    • Far-out man. Life story.
I think we share the same condition.

  • Are these a stand-alone device or do you need a PS or PC to use them?

    • Don't need pc. It is a computer itself

      • +1

Certain games require pc tho for example Half Life Alyx

        • Yes, for PCVR. I've personally been saving alyx for when i run out of standalone games to play. Cyberpunk vr looks sick too

  • I've previously purchased both the Quest 1 and Quest 2, but sold both a while ago. I recall the experience with the Quest 2 being a bit fiddly for PCVR, as the power delivery via the USB-C (i.e., Quest Link) cable was insufficient to keep the headset charged, and the integration between the Oculus/Steam software seemed unstable at times. Have things changed in this space? Is the USB-C (i.e., Quest Link) cable still the preferred approach, or is the Virtual Desktop application a better approach if using Wi-Fi 6 (i.e., AX)? Additionally, have there been any notable AAA games since Half-Life Alyx (which was truly amazing)? I'm tempted to purchase the Quest 3 for when I have some free time, but was curious whether the PCVR experience has become more refined.

    • yes, cables 5m long with usbc power cost around 20$ish, ( aliexpress ) been using similar ones for over 3 years on my quest2, quest 3 and pico4. i am 99.9% in PCVR with VD with a 40$ redmi router, 0 drama. PCVR is heavily related to your GPU power. and for VR, Vram is very very impotrant, i would say 12G vram is the minimum for decent PCVR.

SteamVR is still the dominant runtime. And sadly personally it always breaks, I just had to use VD custom reinstall script to fix it and its been working fine like this for the past year. so yeah it is to do with valve, nothing quest 3 can do.

    • I was surprised how much the Steam Link VR app had improved lately. I only tried it when it first came out and it was pretty rubbish. But now it's smooth as butter. When I get back into PCVR more I think it will be my primary way of playing SteamVR games as it's pretty much plug and play.

Be good if a mod could add the Meta store tile under the Related Stores section?

Just so people don't forget that they can get an extra $47 in game credit through clicking a referral link before they activate their device.

    • Ugh… bummer

  • +1

FYI (OP might be worth adding into description)

Meta has been giving out credit/a game to any previous Quest 3 purchesers via their live chat if you say you bought your headset between the window of Asgards Wrath 2 and these promos.

Took me 15 minutes and the livechat added $70 credit to my account.

    • Maybe it depends on the support agent you get. Mine referred me back to Amazon support.

      • Did you mention where you bought it? I just said I bought it in x time period and didnt' get any of the benefits.

Worth a shot to try again

        • I'll give it a go. Cheers

  • +1

Bought one thanks and clicked on the Referral link and registered.

Once new Meta Quest 3 activated, me & 1 of OzBargainer will receive $47 credit each. :)

    • Did you buy it on Amazon or Oculus website?

      • Amazon bought in morning and delivered at 8pm (same day).

Device is amazing, need to learn the gesture how to move/ resize those windows in front of you (prefer the mixed mode).

Also the Elite strap is still too big for my 9 yo kids, any kids strap recommendation are welcome Thanks in advance

  • for existing Quest 2 users is it possible to refer yourself ? or can you create a new account and then move purchased games over ?

    • +1

some people say it works e.g https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15059765/redir

i don't think you can move games between accounts, but you can have 2 profiles and 2 accounts on one headset. you can also gift games with the credit, so gift games back to your main. run out the quest+ trial on the new account. go back to using the main.

      • I made the mistake of referring using my 'other' account to my main. Registered to my main account and got the free game and the Quest+, but not referral bonus. Deleted the device from my main account and referred to my 'other' account and registered the device on my 'other' account, did not work. Deleted device again and created a new account, sent referral from main to the new account and registered the device with new account and got the referral bonus on both main and new accounts.

Free game and quest+ stayed on main account. Did not get them again on subsequent registrations to my 'other' and new accounts. I've deleted the device again from new account and now back to main account. Now showing the referral bonus on my main and new accounts. Getting notification that I have 6 months of quest+ but can really only activate for 3 months. I did read somewhere that the transfer/claiming of referral bonus only works within 7 days of initial registration of device.

Plan to just gift from new account to main so everything is all in one account. Hope this helps someone.

Does anyone think the q3 128gb will be on special prime day soon or Black Friday to keep kids with both same item I fancy getting the 128gb for son as sister got one last year.
But certainly not at the $719 price the q3 s does nothing for me as got crap lenses and that’s at $499 and q3 512gb is $799 the q3 128gb should be closer to the 3s at least.

  • Been thinking getting into VR. So if bought quest 3, what other accessories i need to consider getting?
From whats been said so far, it seems the following are recommended?

1x BoboVR s3 pro strap . Is this better than the elite strap?
1x Long Usb cable which can charge and connect to PC at the same time
    Quest Game Optimiser

Anything else to consider? Want to know the total damage before committing..

For the $47 referral bonus, it can only be used to purchase games or can be used to purchase this headset too? How to apply the credit if buying from amazon not meta directly?

    • +1

I also like controller grips with battery access. They make it harder to drop the controller, and easy to change the batteries without removing the grip. Lots of cheap ones on amazon e.g. UPOK grips or on aliexpress

Referral bonus can only be used for games. You dont need to do it at the exact same time as when you purchase. You create an account when clicking a referral link. When the account logs into a new headset, it recognises it was created from the referral link and adds the game credit to the account. As long as you do it before turning the headset on it for the first time, should work.

Get a house with a large empty room.

      • I don't know… even with enough room to walk around, I felt sick after a few minutes. Worse when I was sitting down. But still good fun.

I played at a mate's house. The only games that didn't make me sick were Super Hot and Beat Sabre. Fantastic games! I wish they made a Super Hot sequel.

    • I would recommend getting a dedicated wifi 5, 6 or 7 router to connect to your PC. That way you can play PCVR completely wirelessly.

  • I have just made an order on Oculus website but the delivery date is 17/10 (almost 3 weeks). Does anyone have experience with their deliveries before? Will it be sooner than estimated date?

Also, just wondering if PCVR via wifi is the same as usb link?

    • wifi has slight delay obviously

  • +1

Wow this thing is next level, first time on vr, daughter loves it. Used the referer link on here, store credit worked. What a good idea for OzB to set this up. Hope the referer enjoys his credit too.

    • did you buy it on Amazon?

      • +1

Yes. Bought it then created meta account and clicked on referral to register into the account before it was delivered. Then activated the thing into the account on first power up. Was $10 cashrewards btw

        • +1

You can also get discounts off apps as well if someone refers you to buy the app. I recommend checking out walkabout mini golf and pistol whip :)

          • @safwanc: I have 2 accounts on quest 2 and 3. Can I refer each other? Do I have to have the app first?

            • @hattori9x: You have to own the app on one account (your primary account). You can then send a referral to the app on your secondary account to get 15% off on the purchase on the secondary account. Your primary account also gets $5 credit when the secondary account makes the purchase.

        • Thanks, I cancelled my order on Oculus website and ordered on Amazon so it will be delivered today instead of waiting for 2 weeks. I thought you only can do referrals from Oculus website

  • Can the Quests be used offline? Movies or games? TIA

    • Yes. Movies aren't amazing but they're ok I guess. 3D movies are the best.

It's relatively easy to sideload unsupported software including emulators to have fun with.

      • any recommendations for app or game? or how to watch 3d movie (how to source it )

  • No longer $799 on Amazon ($980), but still lower price on Meta

    • Why has the so called normal price no longer available 512gb at $799 and what happened to the 128gb discount price

      • Ignore - looks like it's back at $799 and through Amazon AU
        128GB is there as well

        • Still shows it for $980 for me

    • +1

not sold by Amazon AU either

  • What’s the better option

Kiwi Design Comfort Head Strap Compatible with Meta Quest 3S/Meta Quest 3 Accessories, Elite Strap

    Or

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0CNPPC776/ref=ox_sc_sa…

  • A silly question, perhaps, but does anyone know if the Quest 3 "Headset only" option on Amazon includes hand held controllers?

    • +1

      yes it does.

  • Looks like no BF/CM special deal meta quest 3..

Been holding to wait and see.
I even get the bobovr s3 pro strap already lol
What are other must have accessories?
Do I need to upgrade my wifi 5 router to have a smooth operation?

Does it still come with 3 month free meta quest+ subscription?

    • yea still comes with 3 months subscription. I just got the knuckle grips and longer cable to charge/connect to PC
