Update: Intel model I bought is more expensive now, but the AMD is now $100 or so cheaper than when I first posted this. Four days in daughter very happy with it (and the free pen and $1 sleeve), especially that it has like 50% left at the end of each day of school use.

My $1,585.85 non-OLED (see below) laptop vs the OLED deal posted, now expired, of $1,799?

Bought the non-Oled (details below, including selected upgrades in brackets) for a school laptop because of the 71Wh battery, because apart from the $500 or so difference in price, I didn't want to lose the extra hours gained with this battery from an (unnecessary?) OLED screen.

After ditching the BS fragile screen Apple MacBook (totally unsuitable for a school laptop), I bought two ASUS 2 in 1 laptops (Vivobook S 14 Flip Gen 2 14" Ryzen 7 5800H 16/512GB) a year ago. My girls love the touchcreens (half the price of brittle Apple rubbish at $1,299 thanks to a tip on Ozbargain), but for one daughter (with the smaller battery than this Lenovo) it occassionally stuggled to last all day at school. I will inherit that one and also have it as a reserve for them if a need arises.

Yoga 7i 2-in-1 14", Gen 9, Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 125U Processor 16GB (1 TB + Fingerprint Reader): $1,339.85

3Y Premium Care with Onsite: $219.00

3Y Sealed Battery Add on: $ 26.00

Lenovo Yoga 14.5-inch Sleeve: $1.00 (Lenovo sales agent bonus)

TOTAL: $1,585.85 (these discount prices still available on Lenovo au website)

BTW also comes with a free digital pen, which my girls loved with the ASUS until they lost both, as unlike this one it didn't have a place to attach it.

    • I think all their 2-in-1 comes with the pen as standard package which is good

      • And unlike with the ASUS, where my girls have lost both pens, this apparently has somewhere to clip or whatever onto the laptop.

  • If non oled, you just pay little bit more or even less for one with a 4050 dedicated graphic card

    • Which one???

      • This one costs 794 but expired.

But if you search 4050, 4060 in the above search line, you can still see heaps of Lenovo LOQ and Acer and HP at 1100 mark

But not 14", not a flip and not touchscreen (?), backlit keyboard (?) nor 71Wh battery (?).

        • There seem to be a lot of pre-owned/refurbished. With school laptop usage I definitely wanted the 3 year premium warranty and thought the price (apparently dicounted as well) was good value.

          • @xcharliex: I mean brand new from TGG or directly from Lenovo.
Depends on what people are after.
I will go for 4060 one:

Different level of capability. But yeah you want flip screen and portability then Yoga is a choice. But you can be better with the 15% cashback

      • But yeah Yoga you get portability, but well at that price, I will pay more for oled

        • If it's screen vs battery completely understand. All the OLED 2 in 1s, even the ASUS, now have 71Wh batteries to help with that.

      • It's this 14" one: $1,459.00 Unlike the AMD models its gone up $200 since I bought it for whatever reason. In fact I think the AMD Ryzen 7 might have even gone down. Appartently (total layman here, so just from Google search), the my Intel vs the Ryzen is not as good "performance" but uses "87% less battery, which suited my needs better.

  • When i see lenovo i say wait for cashback

    • I was actually worried, with my battery concerns with OLED, if I waited there mightn't be any non-OLED options, as is now the case with ASUS 2 in 1s from memory when I looked a few weeks back.

      • Usually Lenovo can stack with 15% cashback

    • If only its on ebay with 17% off….

    • It certainly looks good and a great price. Certainly seems to beat the OLED Lenovo hands down. As long as OLED doesn't chew up the 70WH battery. As I said our version of this without OLED with 50WH stuggled a bit for a school day use of 6 hours.

      • 'Basically the more cells a laptop battery has the longer the battery life. Two laptop batteries; one has a 42 wHr 3 cell and the other is a 42 wHr 4 cell. The 42 wHr 4 cells are going to outlast the 42 wHr 3 cells.'

For what it's worth, the ASUS OLED has a 3 cell 70wh, while the Lenovo has a 4 cell 71wh.

      • How about oled burn in problem?

  • Think this will sort out a kid for high school?
