[WA, Refurb] Beam Solo E-Scooter $299.99 Pickup @ Beam Solo

1260

First time posting, found out that Beam was selling their scooters after ending their contracts with cities. Essentially a unfoldable Ninebot G30 for a big discount, but from looks of it only available in Perth left. Be aware of battery degradation but build quality is good apparently.

            • @mattis: Cheers will look into that

            • @mattis: Be careful when using the Raptor coat. It makes one hell of a mess. Make sure you spray somewhere you dont mind getting chunks of overspray

  • anyone can recommend a lock and helmet?

  • +2

Think it's a dog act they keep putting the prices up…

  • I did a search for warranty in this thread and nothing, does anyone know what the deal is after purchasing?

    • +1

I think it was 6 months. You call them up if there are any issues. I wouldn't expect much more at this price point.

      • I sent an email to them and they said 4-month warranty. and mentioned a standard service for $50

  • Canberra also has the Beam Seated E-Scooter for$439
    https://www.beamsolo.com/products/beam-seated-e-scooter?pr_p…

  • I just find that Beam and Beam Solo are different. Beam is the one you can find on the street. Beam Solo is a company that sells used scooters.

    • Probably structured that way for funding requirements and liability.

  • +1

Not so great a deal I would say. They were $249 originally (I suspect for the non-suspension version but still), and now they are $399. For the condition that they will be in, and considering they don't have the bluetooth hardware so can't use app, don't fold and are purple, a second hand private G30 or G30 Max exist for that price and would be better IMO.

    • +1

It was a good deal when it was posted at $300 for the suspension model… But then they slowly increased the price.

      • Agreed. And the $250 for non-suspension was a decent deal too.

        • I just checked gumtree the price is from $550 to $850 for a non-suspension version

          • @RichardF89: Wow, people trying to profit bigtime on gumtree, fair enough. Doubt they sell. Seen many on Facebook marketplace last week from $350, and suspension model from $400. There's a couple near new one's up there atm between $350 and $500 (including funny enough an actual Beam suspension one for $400).

  • So are the front suspension ones like the one on the grass photo, and the standard one is the one like the 2 people riding them?

  • +1

I picked up my non-suspension Beam scoot model in Perth a couple of days ago. Seems like a solid scoot for the money ($300) Yes there is scuffs and scraps around the scoot but it's built very well and everything functions as it should. I have an unlocked G65 and the Beam scoot's initial pick up is probably slightly better than the G65, it just loses out on top speed as the G65 does 32km/h. The rear taillight also seems to be brighter (not by much) on the Beam. For the $300 or $350 Beam Solo are asking for these you can't go wrong, espceilally if you get the dual brake, supension model. At $400 or $429 i'd maybe be looking elsewhere. A F40 can be had on Kogan for $579 new or refurb/open box G65 for $749.

  • Hey guys question, since this is my first time experiencing an escooter is it meant to be kinda stiff when you're just walking with it? Especially after hard pressing the brakes it kinda stiffs up… Is something wrong with the brakes possibly needs lube?

    • this is my first escooter as well. I don't have much experience but if you have any concern you can bring back for a check they offer 4 month warranty

    • and BTW how was your paint?

      • I haven't painted mine yet, but will drop by SCA to grab some today.

  • No idea what its called, but does anyone know where i could get new rubber foot grip? Or what size would fit?

Hey guys I decided to spray my scooter today, last minute decision I went with plastidip as I was looking into raptor and it worried me about issues with bubbling. Worst case I can rip the dip off and start again.

    Here's first spray https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/74197/116357/20241008_…

    And fifth spray
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/74197/116358/20241008_…

I still have a bit leftover might do another spray… I wasn't sure if I should spray the yellow logo as well or just cover it up with some stickers. Also didn't bother with spraying the bumpers? Gray parts thought they might add some contrast to the black.

And this is after the sixth spray

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/74197/116361/20241008_…

I think it turned out pretty good not perfect but at least we don't have to deal with that purple 😂

    • That came out really well! Did you do any surface prep at all?

      • Not really, just wiped it down with isopropyl alcohol.

        • How many cans of the plastidip did you use? Was the 6 coats just because you had plenty, or were you tempted to stop at less?

    • Nice work! Appreciate the photos, keen to do something similar.

      • No problems, yes definitely get rid of that original purple colour 😂

    • thanks Mate I will paint as well

  • +2

Just picked up, all the ones they had lined up ready to go were all dual suspension/dual brakes so if picking up today should def be that type.

    • Whats the condition like? Curious to know if they are implementing a get rid of the older less desirable stock first policy.

      • +1

I picked mine up yesterday, they all looked to be in similar condition. The wheels have a large amount of surface corrosion, there are quite a few nicks / scrapes on the lower sides. Mine looks to have had a seat installed on it as there is a corrosion line and 2 bolt holes on each side. I believe some of the parts are new as the reflectors are in pristine condition. Overall happy with how the one they rolled out was in comparison. Someone picked up before me and had very scuffed brake levers on both sides, they didn’t argue the point too much, but the guy wouldn’t let them swap due to having already noted down the scooter number.

  • +7

I picked one up and happy with it. Mine was charged to 4/5 bars only and then I had to immediately ride it to work and it didn't let me down. Cuts my commute from 40-45 minutes on the bus to 25 minutes and much more enjoyable. A lot of fun.

Got home and still had 33% charge. Sport mode the whole time.

    • And in a couple of months you'll have made your return on investment!

  • I picked mine up and noticed that the button is a quite stiff and I need to press down on it firmly. Anyone else experiencing this?

    • +1

same here as the button is new. they replaced the button and display part so you don't have to pay to use it.

      • Ahh okay, just wish I didn’t need to apply so much pressure to engage

    • I purchased two. The button on one is very responsive, clicks nicely. The other you have to depress with a lot more force, and has no real click.

You could purchase a new board if it really bothered you.

    • +1

The issue is the new boards are using a different switch. The fix is to take off the screen cover and fill in the square hollow part of the button. You can do this with a thin bit of rubber/plastic or fill it up with silicone and let it cure. After this it will hit the switch on the board as intended.

  • Just got mine. Im pretty happy with it. Was expecting it to be in a worse condition.

Anyway to hack it to get more than 25kmh out of it?

    • +2

Its quite a process… I've ordered parts to do mine.

      Guide: https://github.com/timeylies/How-to-convert-a-Ninebot-SNSC-2…

      • Thanks for that. I did stumble across this web page. So this will unlock the limiter? What kind of speed will i get out of it if the hack is applied successfully?

        • +1

To my understanding, the process flashes the standard G30 firmware on the scooter. This unlocks the bluetooth feature, which then allows you to use tools to change the serial number, which unlocks the speed by changing the region.

Essentially, it turns the scooter into a 'global' version of the G30, which allows up to 35kmh.

I could be wrong, but that's my read of what I've researched.

          • @Ahhhhyep: Awesome. Ive heard its quite tricky to do, so i'll let you be the guinee pig

          • @Ahhhhyep: Very keen to do this too if you get it working. Please let us know 🙏

Have 2 pet peeves with this scooter:
            1. If it goes over 25km/h due to a slope, it brakes, which sucks. And even at "25km/h" it says like 23 on google maps.
            2. There is no cruise control after holding the accelerator down for 5sec. Super handy if on a long straight stretch at top speed for a while. Holding the accelerator down the whole time isn't the most comfortable.

Hoping both could be fixed after doing this.

            • @Gojkins: It would be ideal if we could just swap out the controller for a standard G30 controller. I can't find any info on the compatibility between the two.

My only concern is the flashing of the BMS. Pulling apart the battery doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence. Especially when it comes to waterproofing.

      • I'm interested in doing this. Let us know how it goes.

  • Anyone picking up one in Perth this morning? I am picking one up later today so interested to know if there are just dual-suspension lined up or a variety of both models?

    • +2

A mate just picked up. They were all dual suspension

  • Does anyone know how to remove the silly mobile phone mount?

  • +3

anyone who want to paint, I just bought 2 Plasti Dip Can for $40. I asked Supercheap to price match Repco's Multi-Buy Available 2 for $50 and they also give me the 20% storewide discount.

    • +1

Good deal, wish I saw that beforehand. I used one can with still a lot to spare. Now I'm trying to find stuff to plastidip 😂 don't know how long they last opened but can be used for touch up in future.

  • I saw the new model on the street with indicator

  • +2

Picked up my second scooter today. I had a choice between a scooter with or without a seat. Took the model with the seat because it looked near-new.

Stoked with the deal. The Beam rep mentioned there could be more scooters coming.

  • +1

I picked mine up today. One of the $299 ones. It’s fantastic! My 18yo son and I have used it for around three hours and it still has charge. Great fun, works well and comes with brand new charger. It has three modes - sport (fast and powerful), eco (slower acceleration which is the one I used!) and another mode in between those two.

    • +1

Did you also have choice between seated or not?

      • +1

No, there were a couple of seated ones there but I assumed they were more expensive and they gave me a standard one

    • how did you get the $299 ones so late? Did you choose a very late date?

      • No, I just had to wait about three weeks to collect it. That was the earliest date available when I bought it

  • How are your scooters coming along? Anyone done any mods yet? Keen to see what you guys have come up with.

    • Love mine. Haven't modded but keen to try the plasidip. Saw one on the train the other day with someone who got it in the same deal.
At this price, the condition doesn't bother me. Just want to get all the beam logos etc out

      • +2

Note if your planning to cover the logos, don't plastidip it as the wrap/sticker it comes with doesn't hold the plastidip. The rest of the scooter (metal parts) is fine to dip though. To cover the logo I just bought some matte black vinyl wrap off ebay for like 5 bucks and it works perfect.

        • Nice work! What have you added at the front?
