Does it include the smelly helmet?

      Nope. Also excludes pedals.

Does it include the smelly helmet?

Helmet in near new condition. Most of the clowns that used these didn't wear a helmet.

    Great deal
rented one from em on a weekly rental a little while ago. battery capacity on that unit was fine, and scooter rode well. as others say build quality is good

I wonder how many have been retrieved after going for a swim in the mighty Derbarl Yerrigan

    • Probably about the same that ended up in the Swan River.

  • Very tempting

    • Wished, it was foldable.

  • +11

Always wanted a electric scooter but couldn't justify paying over $1000 that'll probably just sit in the garage (I know because that's what happens to most of my purchases). For $300 I just pulled the trigger.

Hopefully I get a good one

  • +1

Bit keen. Do you have to go to Ossie park to pick it up?

    • looks like it

  • +2

Called Osborne Park WA … They say they don't have it and it's been a mistake.

    • Oh really? On the beam website it says the address is 84 Guthrie Street. But when you actually click to show it in google maps, it displays 3/455 Scarborough beach road instead.

      Unless that is just mine…?

    • I bought one from them last week, no issues.

  • thanks OP!

(profanity) it, bought one; we'll see what happens

Hmm, I can't select a time slot. I wonder if the deal is over ?

  • +3

These are mostly better scooters then the consumer ones you can get off the shelf with a much bigger battery, suspension and build quality. Only caveat is that they don't fold and therefore aren't very easy to bring around when you're not riding them.

  • +3

Keep in mind these cannot be taken on busses (due to being non-foldable) or on trains during peak times in the peak direction, in Perth.

    • @FaLLeN25 so you can take scooters on busses if foldable? Haven't really looked into it. Just thought saw a sign with it crossed over. Also Perth. Should've just looked on transperth but lazy ozbargainers.

      • +1

Needs to meet dimension restrictions when folded to be taken during peak times on trains. Although have definitely caught it with some idiot taking the whole row of accessible seats on a packed train.

        • its legal to take bike in trains in NSW

    • +1

      busses

      buses

      Busses are something different altogether:

      buss
      noun: a kiss.
      verb: kiss.
"he bussed her on the cheek"

      • -1

Thanks for this clarification. Just went with busses and didn't questioned the spelling and just followed. Because, who wants to be a d on ozbargain? And before saying "has been", it still is used and acceptable. And myself who speaks 5 languages, but I choose English here because probably only language you understand and may say very well. Also because an Australian site.

Spelling the plural of the noun “bus” can cause some confusion: is it busses or buses? The confusion is partly caused by the fact that busses has been an acceptable plural in both British English and American English. The most common form currently is buses.

        • +7

Because, who wants to be a d on ozbargain?
And myself who speaks 5 languages,

I think you just answered your own question…

        • I stick with busses and will die on this tiny little hill.

Buses feels wrong. With only 1 s it should be pronounced the same as fuses IMHO.

          • @noisymime:

With only 1 s it should be pronounced the same as fuses

LOL - if only English worked by rules like that.

            Coff Ruff Throo Bao

            • @Nom: Yeah I get it, the inconsistencies all annoy me 😄

In this case though busses appears to be an an accepted alternative and it fits the 'normal' pattern, so damn it I'm going to use it!

            • @Nom: The aristocratic academia people made it this way to confuse the common people.

  • Anyone got a recommendation of a D-lock for one of these?

Said every person with a male partner ever ;-)

      • If you need a lock for a D then they're not a partner

  • Given they started a two year contract with city of stirling at the beginning of the year… Is it safe to say these are fairly new?

after ending their contracts with cities

Aka having multiple contracts cancelled due to dodgy practices of under reporting scooter numbers and exceeding caps both here and in NZ.

  • Thanks op for posting!
Bought one hoping it's a fun toy for an adult.
Still available for pick-up on the 8th and 9th.

  • Looks like the slot selection is working again

  • 1 slot left now …

  • No slots left now :(

    • New slots opened up - probably will have a dud battery but couldnt resist from buying one to try out.

If anyone recieved theirs then please let me nbow how you go as it'll be weeks until my one is ready for pickup.

  • These the speed restricted ones? 25km/h max but lower depending on zones, downhill, etc.

    • Hopefully a YouTube tutorial will fix the speed governor

      • Info is out there but the issue is the controller chips being used. Older controllers can be hacked with the right software and know how, having said that a lot of the Beam fleet have newer controllers which makes hacking them close to impossible. Ninebot wont discuss unlocks with individuals so you can't just ask them nicely for a USA region unlock etc. Change one piece of hardware and the rest will go into an automatic shutdown and alarm. (To stop people stealing them and easily hacking them).

        • Oh that's a bummer. Replacing the controller may be a solution but kinda defeats the cheapness aspect of this. I guess for $299 there isn't much to lose if tinkering goes wrong

    • Speed restricted and on mine the bluetooth connectivity was also disabled. That meant I couldn't turn off regen braking etc.

      • Oh no! I wasn't expecting the BT connectivity to be disabled. Bugger :(
So, that also means also that you can't check the battery status/usage/voltage, speed, etc using the app.

Oh well, as you say below, they're built well so hopefully something that will stand the test of time if the battery isn't already buggered.

  • -3

Surely put your $300 towards an actual half decent scooter rather than these things that have been absolutely flogged.

    • These have been left out in the rain and abused by hundreds of people and they still work fine. They are built like tanks! (I should know I bought one last year) These are not cheap retail versions these are rental fleet exclusives. Battery is cased in silicone as are the controllers.

      • -1

Yeah I've had plenty of experience riding rental and private scooters. The concept of dropping hundreds of dollars on something that has "been left out in the rain and abused by hundreds of people" just doesn't sit well with me when a new device is not much more. But to each their own.

        • +1

Fair enough. Your money, your choices. I was hesitant and then very pleasantly surprised in what I had bought. (I had never riden an eScooter before or even knew much about Ninebot and rental scooters). I got a great deal, others might not see it that way.

  • where is pickup in perth and when

    • Osborne park, depends on when you select to pickup.

  • hmmmmmm … dont need one…would love to hear some experiences upon pick up

  • +2

They've added more pickup times but price has increased to $349.99

  • Anyone picked one up yet? Picking mine up tomorrow.

    • Did you get in really early? When I bought mine yesterday it only showed next Tuesday for me.. This was about 40 minutes after deal was posted. Pretty keen to see the condition of these.

      • +1

My confirmation email came through at 2:25pm. I selected the only time slot available on the 27th, so likely the last one. Maybe just locked in the timeslot first ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Will let you know how it goes when I pick up tomorrow.

        • Yes please let us know how it is, cheers

        • any update?

          • +3

@RichardF89: What rza has commented in this thread is pretty spot on. They're the older frame without suspension, the frames appearance is beaten up and scratched with some surface rust in areas, they are said to mechanically/electrically checked to Australian standards and the breaks/tyres/other wear items should be new/fairly new. The battery is said to be maybe around 90% of its original capacity. They don't have bluetooth. I'll check it in more detail tonight after work. I'm personally not fussed by its physical appearance as long as it functions properly and is mechanically/electrically sound. Structurally they are built like a tank and are a pain to put in the car.

            • +1

@Gojkins: looking forward to your detailed run down. If they don't have BT, how do you check range etc? This'll be my first scooter!

            • +1

@Gojkins: thanks for the update Gojkins

  • RIP was kinda indecisive this morning and just bought it now but they raised the price by 50$ to 350$.

    • Noticed that too. Damn!

    • +2

That's the ozbargain tax mate, you should know the first rule here is to buy first decide later.

      • Buy Now, Think Later is what i do too LOL

  • anyone picked up yet ? keen to know how their scooter is ? what the process is ? could you pick one from the lot or are you allocated one already ? are they in nice condition ? do they have beam written all over it ?

    • +1

It might be different for each source. When I went to collect one here in Tasmania (Last year - 2023) I didn't have a choice of units. Mine was freshly spray painted black over the original purple spray they have on the rental versions. Mine also had new grips, bell, dash cover, battery, stand and a 5 amp charger. I had a firmware issue which was sorted out when I contacted Beam support I had to take it back for them to re-flash it).

      • I'm collecting mine tomorrow just before lunch. @6828 Does the display & speedo work?

        • how's yours ? Mine is still Beam Branded and scratches everywhere so not freshly painted like @6828's one . No app required, i don't think they've changed anything as refurbished although it seems they might have changed the battery. they said the battery will last around 10 years .

          • +4

@Do I NeedThis: So I collected 3 of them at 11:30 this morning. They are as advertised, still purple in colour with Beam Logos present. Haven’t really had a good opportunity to fully test them out yet but I took them for a quick spin when I collected them. So they are limited to 25km/h, are in pretty good knick considering they are ex-rentals, they make no unusual noises and the displays all including speedos work fine. There is no bluetooth or app connectivity and according to the Beam rep, they cant be unlocked or modified given they are the commercial variant of the Segway scooters. He did say that once they offload all the current models, they should be selling the newer ones with the front & rear suspension and they will only be slightly more in price than these ones so if you missed out this time round it might only be a couple of months until those other ones go on sale. Apologies if formatting is bad, I'm typing this all out on my phone.
