Similar to a previous deal but 1TB more storage and Oculink port for PCIE4.0x4 (64Gbps bandwidth) future expandability.

There are cheaper minis out there with similar CPU specs but this one fulfilled my needs as a Jack of all trades desktop machine that is graphics-upgradable via Oculink, and can later be repurposed as a homelab or pfsense router with dual 2.5Gb intel NICs. The 680M iGPU is no slouch and GFX memory can be alloacted up to 16GB in the BIOS. The mini in the aforementioned post maxed out at 8GB which was a dealbreaker for my intended usage for LLM inference.

You can see the eGPU setup in this video.

  • I think this one had a 50% off coupon last week and was only $500 at checkout. Might be worth holding out for a repeat offer

For this model? 2tb SSD? I think that was the lesser capacity version including only 16gb ram

  • That was quick, says not available for me.

    • Are you sure? I can still see the deal without being logged in on Amazon

You're right, sorry didn't notice. I was logged into my VPN and going via Switzerland, my bad.

Thanks OP, got one. Hopefully no better deals come Black Friday sales.

    Thank you OP!

I just cancelled my order for a Bosgame P3 @ $629 and got this instead. Looks like this Mini PC (GMKtec Nucbox M7 Pro) has better overall specs - 2TB ssd, better NIC, better BIOS, 2x USB4, HDMI 2.1 when compared to the Bosgame P3 which has slightly lower specs.

Processor difference is interesting: Ryzen 9 6950H has slightly lower benchmarking scores compared to Ryzen 9 6900HS but the 6950H supports more instructions sets. I suspect performance differences won't be noticeable considering the thermal constraints.

    Ryzen 9 6900HX supports the following Instruction set extensions: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, SSE4A, AES, AVX, AVX2, FMA3, SHA
Ryzen 9 PRO 6950H supports the following Instruction set extensions: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4A, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2, BMI2, ABM, FMA, ADX, SMEP, SMAP, SMT, CPB, AES-NI, RDRAND, RDSEED, SHA, SME, PRO

Noting that if you intend to run this as an "all in one" incluuding Plex/home media via this, a much cheaper/smaller box leveraging Intel's quicksync (or something with an Nvidia card) would likely punch far above it's weight / exceed this machines capabilities. Both in capacity and quality. AMD's x264 transcoding is known to be sub par. In fact, I don't think AMD's products are supported at all by Plex.

Other than that it looks like a solid all rounder mini pc.

    • Good points, I'm looking to get an eGPU so hopefully that can help to make up for those AMD platform downsides :)

      • If you're looking for some sort of GPU, then buy an ITX or ATX system - running an external GPU with a micro desktop is madness when you can just buy a desktop that can take a GPU ! You've got all of the downsides, problems, and costs of an external GPU, with zero advantages.

They're not offering it right now, but as an example the $748 Techfast ITX machine including a 4060 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/8477780 - would be a much better choice than any of the micro systems.

  • Just be aware that these boxes require a bit of fine-tuning to keep fan speeds in check if you plan to use it in a lounge room or bedroom. The BIOS doesn't expose as many options as it should, so you may need to rely on your OS to do this.

    • Why does it matter if it's in an lounge room or bedroom?

      • Because you can hear it in those rooms…

        • As opposed to an office? Not being snarky just trying to understand.

          • +1

            @Rojohe: Including an office.

these boxes require a bit of fine-tuning to keep fan speeds in check

      • +1

I suppose it's not relevant - I only typed that because I bought a similar GMKtec mini PC and was using it both rooms mentioned. I meant to type "if sensitive to noise".

I guess I didn't think of office because I usually use closed-back headphones at my desk so that some noise isn't a big deal.
