Buddy Telco (Aussie Broadband) Now Has Static IP/CGNAT Opt out for $10 a Month

EDIT As of 28 Sep 2024 Buddy has removed the option for static IP.

Currently Buddy Telco internet plans do not offer static IP addresses or the ability to opt-out of Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT).

By default you get IPv4 with CG-NAT and a static IPv6 /48 block for free.

Buddy support has stated that a static IP for IPv4 is available for $10/month.

From buddytelco.com.au

Can I get a static IP or opt out of CGNAT?

Yes! You can add a static IP to your service through the Buddy Telco web portal. All you need to do is log in to your account, select the "Static IP" bolton under "Advanced", and click "Apply Bolton". The cost will be charged in full on your next invoice.

Unfortunately, we cannot opt a service out of CGNAT without adding a static IP.

As you can see, they did not list the price here. So I asked, and decided to post it here to make it more available. Screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/gq3nQw8

Also, I checked with AGL Internet as I wanted to sign up to the 6 month 250/23 for $74/month bundle (for 6 months then $99/month after).

The customer rep mentioned that static IP is available for $7.50 extra a month. I tried to ask about just opting out of CGNAT but they kept referring me to static IP.
If you want to cancel the bundle (i.e to not pay the $99/month after) the rep mentioned you can cancel on the same day and there is no cancellation fee.

I am considering moving to Leaptel for the 100/20 plan for $79 for 12 months. Currently on Exetel 50/18 for $75/month. Tempted to go for Buddy.

check More telecom (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/more.com.au), usually they got discounts if you have CBA account, I am on 250/25 for $69 a month for a year

    • Renegotiate with Exetel.

Free static IP and I'm on 100/20 for $75 per month

Existing customers may be OK, but Exetel now charge for static IP. You can still opt-out in to dynamic though (for free) by contacting support.

I talked to AGL chat support about 1.5 months ago and said I don't want to have CG NAT and the rep said "so you want a public IP?" and I said "yeah maybe IDK s*** about f***" and they said "No worries. Reset your modem in 10 minutes." Now my public IPv4 address no longer changes so I guess that's what that meant. I no longer have issues with plex either (remote access). I didn't have to pay anything. Just my 2 cents.

  • I pay 90 a month with superloop with a static ip for 100/20. If Buddy ever cuts it to 5 dollars a month, the switch will be a nobrainer.

ever cuts it to 5 dollars a month, the switch will be a nobrainer

So basically you are holding off to save 16 cents per day ???

It's a no brainer anyway, as buddy isn't superloop.

    • Do new Superlooper's get a static? Or is that only for old customers.

      • Its an extra 5 dollars a month if you contact them via chat/phone. I actually have had a good experience with Superloop in terms of performance and dropouts but would go to Buddy/Aussie if they matched the price. I am not rich enough that I wont notice the impact of 60 dollars a year @jv. And isnt this the whole point of being on Ozbargain?

Opting out of CGNAT is free, static IP is not. However been with superloop for over 6 months now and my IP hasn't changed. It's advertised as "sticky".

      • I contacted Superloop via chat and asked to be removed from CGNAT because I play online games. It was done today in a few minutes at no charge. Eve Online has much less lag now.

I've had to do this twice because when changing plans CGNAT was enabled.

        • Not CGNAT /= static IP, should still be dynamic, But on HFC dynamic can remain the same for immensely extended periods.

SL like to charge $10/mo for static.

And beware exiting SL, they lock you into your contract for an extra 30 days to fleece (weasel worded Ts&Cs) everyone that churns away for an extra month's subscription fee.

          • @resisting the urge: Oh I know about the 30 day trap, I can work around it. I did mistype that post. I have no idea why I said it was done today, I did it two months ago and eight months ago.
