  • Is this the same board as the one for $39 on a previous deal?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83921

    Seems so.

  • Payment went through but I seem to be getting 'Page not found' whenever I try to check details of order. Same thing happened straight after payment, but got email confirmation from paypal….

    Hopefully it goes through….

    • Try a different browser. Mine failed with opera, but went through fine in Chrome

      • Doesn't want to work with IE or Chrome!

        • Got mine today! Seems pretty solid!

  • Sweet, just ordered two.

  • +1

Thanks for that. Have already three of them, the quality is quite good. Bought a fourth one :)
Had no problems with the order.

  • Already own one. Need another. Great deal!!!

  • +1

Just bought another one. To got the first one for $30 bucks well worth the money imo.

  • Got two with no problems, thanks, OP.

  • thanx op, brought two

    • +18

      Where did you bring them?

      • home from DSE?

      • Haha big FUNNY GUY

  • +1

I've got 3 of these, thinking about another… He anyone ever actually tried to use the connected equipment warranty?

  • Thanks OP. Got another one.
last time it was for $29.

Lifetime guarantee with $100,000 Connected Equipment Warranty.
    Wow.

My $300 APC UPS/Surge Protector just blew my tv, amp and ps3 last week, $2500 damage. The ups was 3 years old..

Nothing else in my house was harmed, I have TV's and heaps of other electronic equipment throughout the house, TOTALLY unprotected..

I called APC because I could have sworn they had a lifetime warranty on it. They laughed on the phone, I kid you not. 2 year warranty, fail.
Destroys my soul that I would have had no issue if I had no protection at all.

    I'll never go APC again.

Kills me that dicksmith offers these for 20 bucks with lifetime warranty.

Just bought 2. sorry about the life story..

    thanks op

    • Do you mean the UPS failed to protect, or it actively damaged your equipments?

      • Not sure, bit of both?
I came home and everything running through the UPS was shorted. No power to any of it.
Go to my bedroom, new Ozbargained Pana 50" plasma running direct to the wall, running fine.
Go downstairs check out the 60" LG plasma connected directly to the wall, no problems.

still, it seems like after paris has been good for you?

        • +1

Yeah, I stick with brunettes these days though.

    • Ummmmm, how many watts is your UPS rated for and how many watts is your TV, amp and PS3 combined?

Are you sure you didn't have too much equipment connected to your UPS?

  • Anyone know a good surge board that also cleans / filters power?

    • Yeah, I'd love something like that too. My AV Receiver flicks off/on everytime someone turns on a fluro in the house.

      • that is bad electrical wiring…

lots of new (display type) houses have that issue, interference from poor shielding/installation isn't it?

        • I'm in a rental, I can't fix the cause, so I'd like to fix the symptom. =)

  • thanks grabbed 1

  • Ordered two, thanks OP. already own two of this and they've been working great, remember paying $50 each for them at the time (around 4 years ago).

  • Also grabbed one :)

dunno why, but I bought one.

me too, and a dictionary. you know, in the off chance i need to spell correctly.

As did I, in addition to a 'shift' key for my keyboard. You know, on the off chance I need to capitalise correctly.

Never realised there were so many pedants on this site - or to put it another way, never realised their were sew many pedants on this sight.

        • +2

          Don't you mean pendants?

        • -2

I try not to get hung up on spelling.

        • I think he meant pedantic people maybe….? I'm not really sure.

        • +1

From wikipedia -"A pedant is a person who is excessively concerned with formalism and precision, or who makes a show of his or her learning."

  • is the connected equipment guarantee also lifetime?

    • Yes, I'm pretty sure lifetime means 25 years. I could be wrong..

  • so its 25years not lifetime? the belkin ones are true lifetime equipment guarantee

    • Are you sure? The $350 Monster Surge Protectors are also lifetime but it translates to 25 years.

I could be wrong but my understanding was all lifetime surge guarantees were 25 years..

    • Hmmm, I just tried looking up what lifetime actually meant, I think I might be wrong. This is probably true lifetime guarantee.

I have been told by a few people over time that lifetime was 25 years.

Just ignore me, I'm a little nuts lately with all my electronics dying :(

      • I thought life time warranty was the expected life span of the product? That's what I learnt in business but correct me if I'm wrong, either way I bought two. Thanks :)

  • oh god.. it's a sign.. my parents computer just decided to not turn on….. I'll take 2!

but on the note of desktop computers not turning on, could anyone help me out with this??

I've isolated the problem to be in the computer itself.. I've changed power points, tried another working connecting cables….

please, any advise would be handy..

    • +2

Got a spare power supply to test? Just take the one out of your computer and plug it in your parents and do a test to see if the power supply died

      • yeh i dont thing i have a spare.. need to also look into what it is. I'll try and take the cover off tomorrow to see if it just needs a good clean.
I'll look at trying to find the power supply at the same time.

      • "plug it in your parents" really? Och!

        • +1

I'm just guessing here without knowing further detail. Look at the monitor when you press power button, if nothing on monitor/can't hear CPU fans, the usual suspects are PSU, motherboard, RAM. If it powered on but can't load system, check HDD/System/Virus etc. Find a mate's computer to swap the parts with. Good luck

      • yeah sry i'm not good at knowing what details i need to give. but nothing happens at all when i press the on button.. so i'll work out if those items you said are the problem with a friend with an IT background.
        Thanks!

        • Please try to be more specific.
          "nothing happens at all"
I hate hearing this from people that tell me their computer is broken when I'm asking about the problem. Does it make any sound when you turn it on? Do the BIOS come up? That's all we want to know to help you.

          Please reply with:
the computer does/doesn't display anything to the monitor when powered on
the computer does/doesn't make any sound when powered on
the computer gets to "this stage" before turning off or resetting

  • Chongy288, judging by the question you asked I'd suggest you take it to a reputable computer store. OP thanks for the heads-up, I grabbed 2.

    • Thanks, I will do that :). I'm hoping computer will just magically work tomorrow morning though.

  • Bought one, but I am still not sure if I needed it. Thanks OP… it is just too good to resist.

    • ditto…I bought one..No idea Why??

  • Cheers, got 2. Such a good deal :)

  • I'm suprised it hasn't been ozbargained yet!

I don't know if I even really need it. It is so popular, hence, it should be a damn good thing to buy. Regret later.

  • Cheers, bought 3 as most people have no idea how bad power spikes can be.

    • +2

Depends on your location. A 2009 review by Choice gives a good explanation http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/computers-and-onl…

Never seen any failure due to power surge in electronics in years of repairs - except due to lighning strike of overhead electric wires. Underground power has reduced that rare risk. And most electronic equipment incorporate MOVs.

  • Thanks OP - Ordered 1 as well.

  • +1

If anyone cares i bought the Huntkey board for my computer and will be buying 2 more soon. You can see it here http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&p…

You can pick them up for $25 everyday at MSY, i prefer black and the design is a lot nicer and possibly because of the time spent to make it more aesthetically pleasing might be better built. Just my 2 cents as that sort of looks like a $10 ebay special one and $5 for something you will have for ages doesnt break the bank.

    • But its $5 more Plus Postage.

      Dicksmith is free postage

      • Yeah, it would only suit those near an MSY or PCCG unless you wait and order something with PCCG and get it sent together.

  • bought 3 to find a use for. Cheers OP!

  • This has gotta be one of the fastest upvoted deals on ozbargain I've ever seen! Thanks, OP! Grabbed 2.

  • Actually the Huntkey looks better for $5

    Dick Smith VS Huntkey

    Outlets: 8 vs 8
    Circuit Breaker: 10A vs 10 A
    Surge Protection: 2000J VS 3444J
Max Surge Current Rating: 60,000A vs 144,000A
    Cable Length: 1.8M vs 1.8M
    Insurance Amount: $100,000 vs $1,000,000

Seems Huntkey is in the business of making these where the Dick Smith one who knows who makes it and if they specialize in this stuff.

    • Has the Huntkey got lifetime guarantee covered?

      • +2

To be honest im not sure. I bought mine with my PC build exactly a year ago and from memory it had a life time warranty. Ill be buying 2 from MSY soon so ill report back when i know. Only thing that scares me with the Dick Smith one is that it looks like all the generic cheapies from China where as the Huntkey is very solid and well built. Based on that and the specs im led to believe it is superior. Also my view is that these things generally dont break, spending $5 more is better to have it done right and looking nicer than a white box. Even if i get 10 years (no reason why i should get more as my cheapies are still going) ill be happy knowing that there isnt a cheap look power board behind all my expensive equipment and also knowing that the internals are rated higher the the Dick Smith one. Again take that as you will, i just hate having to rebuy things as they look aged or break and try and get a solution that will last and not need revisiting at the lowest price.

      • +3

Just found out that they only have a 3 year warranty. But i for one will stick with Huntkey as they have all the certifications (AS/NZS3015 2007 AS/NZS3112) where Dick Smith lists nothing, have higher rated protection, look better and most importantly are from a company that only makes power components and there fore live and breathe this stuff. Who knows what generic Chinese factory the Dick Smith thing comes from. Ive said my peace and people have also the info to make an informed decision, im of to sleep WOOP WOOP

        • +1

Who knows what generic Chinese factory the Dick Smith thing comes from.

Could say the same about the Huntkey board you're referring to - appears to be a rebadged version of similar looking boards sold under the Cabac, Jackson, etc. brands. The specs match those of my 8-outlet Cabacs.

It's a pity Choice didn't test one as they seem to be everywhere in various guises.

        • Looking at Cabac in my opinion if anything they would be Huntkey internals as Cabac sell so much other various stuff, where Huntkey only make power related products. Wouldnt make much sense if Huntkey was just branding other peoples products otherwise they would be selling all kinds of other stuff too. As for Jackson, looking at the price it looks like again they are getting the internals from somewhere and probably Huntkey as its more expensive meaning they are throwing on their profits as well as what they need to pay the manufacturer. Also both Cabac and Jackson look the same but Huntkey look different in a few areas leading me to believe that the components are probably sourced from Huntkey and they just make or order different cases.

        • +1

So if the DSE board lasts more than 3 years, the DSE one will be better…? It won't mattrr how well built your Huntkey is if there's no warranty.

        • Not entirely as i think both boards will last 10 years+ pretty easily with a greater likelihood that the Huntkey will live longer. My whole thing is that the Huntkey offers better protection and for $5 i would rather buy it than potentially have to deal with Dick Smith (if they are still around) or the manufacturer and try to get some sort of payout (im thinking near impossible as they make up an excuse). The the Huntkey for me will probably last longer than the Dick Smiths one and offers less chance of my equipment getting fried thus less chance of having to waste my time trying to get blood from a stone aka get money from insurance. Thats the way i see it anyway.

    • +1

      Insurance Amount: $100,000 vs $100,000,000

LOL Who has that value of equipment plugged into a $20/25 powerboard? Or does that also cover fire etc caused by surge?

      • Who has $100,000 plugged in unless you have 4 x 4K Sony LCD TV's LOL

I wouldnt worry about the amount as im pretty confident it would be hard to ever win in getting a pay out but all the other aspects are better. Play it like there is no insurance on either unit. The Huntkey has 72% more Joule protection for surge and 140% more Amp max surge current protection. I would say that i would rather spend $5 more and have less of a chance to hear what bullshit the insurance company has come up with to not have to pay out.

    • +1

The huntkey also has 4 wide spaced sockets for plugpacks etc, the DSE has only 2.

  • I have same unit at home. If you don't need individual power switches, then go for it.

  • I couldn't order it using my iPad. Ordering pages wouldn't load. Tried a couple of different browsers. It worked perfectly on my iPhone.

Where's your 'this will go great with my $199 netbook' comment :D

  • Coincidentally, I was planning to purchase one later today at a Dick Smith store, but dreaded having to spend ~$59 for it … now the online store manager's price has tempted me into purchasing five. Damn you OzBargain (with affection)! :p

  • Thanks, great buy

  • Thanks alot, Bought 2… great deal!!

  • +5

I swear the 400 limit is such dodgy practice by dicksmith.

I'm willing to be they have sold thousands by now!

I called them last week about a tv which was limited to 100 units and the sales rep told me that they have heaps and not to worry about the limit lol!

    Nonetheless still a good deal!

    • I bought one of those TV's and had it delivered yesterday.. The one major gripe I have is the lack of either audio L/R output or a headphone connector - defies logic why its not included — I will need to buy a coaxial to Analog converter on ebay.. Still for $198 it was an absolute bargain.

I'm glad they didn't limit the TV to 100 units because the quality of the screen for the price is actually impressive… Likewise with the surge protector - hope the limit of 400 won't apply here either.

  • Great deal got two of em

  • +4

Thanks, got another 2 - now off to buy more things to plug into them

  • they have 50% off surge boards in tonight's deal.. does this mean this surge board would be $10 tonight?

    • worth a watch….

  • Bought/brought two. Thank you!

  • Thanks. Bought one.
