Thanks for the breakdown
Out of curiosity, how would this OMEN compare to the much cheaper RTX 4060 Gigabyte G5s posted here frequently? Obviously build quality, screen, etc. will be worse but performance-wise.
I think I remember hearing about them having gimped TDPs or something or rather.
From my testing, the 4060 G5 performs similarly to a full powered 4050, so basically a tier below in game FPS except you have 8GB VRAM instead of 6GB.
Based on the info in link above, 4060 full powered (like the Omen has) is 23% faster at 1440p than the 4050 full powered (similar to a G5 with 4060 at 65-75W)
some user story

omg two… must be not a good omen /s
Omen, more like Oh Man
@JarrodsTech: Amen
CPU kills the deal
I had a pretty high end OMEN laptop and had nothing but issues. first, it would shut down unexpectedly after 20 minutes of not so intensive gaming, and then despite having purchased a care pack, I couldn't get any meaningful response or action from support for a couple weeks after I reported the issue.
I had to escalate through corporate channels and by that time I only gave them one option - complete refund. took another good month to get money back, and care pack itself was never refunded, just the laptop.
no, never again HP
If the goal is performance per dollar, this deal isn't great.
Yeah it's a more premium model and OLED etc and not priced too bad if those are the priorities, but still very much on the higher end of the deal price spectrum as far as 4060 goes.
The other 4080 deal posted earlier is way better in terms of FPS/dollar ratio: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/867378
That's 35% more money, but 82% faster in a 23 game average at 1440p (source: https://jarrods.tech/laptop-desktop-graphics-comparison/ ) plus 50% more VRAM probably going to be useful in newer games before too long.
