RIP Boost. Once the 160gb plan is gone, my family + extended family are leaving

    • +17

that will reduce load on their network and improve reception, thank you

      • Or reduce business revenue as they're less competitive, so they'll need to cut cost and may lead to closing shop

        • What you pay is what you get. YMMV

          • +12

@hopper: I don't think you've really understood how "YMMV" works when paired with a statement of fact like "what you pay is what you get".

        • Lol, they're just a Telstra child company. They're not going anywhere anytime soon.

    • +7

Genuine question - where are you going?

Even at the higher prices, it's still one of the better deals around - especially when there's no cheaper option for full Telstra coverage and you can still buy the starter packs at significant discounts like this deal.

      • +1

I'm not valuing Telstra coverage as much as they are. Hence we won't be doing any further business.

Any Optus reseller will do. I don't split hairs, I'll be going for cheap

        • Fair enough - having tried Optus coverage in rural areas I sometimes visit, I have discovered that Telstra coverage is noticeably superior, so I'm happy to pay a small premium for that. My wife is on Optus and she doesn't have any issues, but she doesn't tend to travel much outside urban areas.

          • @klaw81: Since I changed jobs I no longer need rural coverage, so I'm free to move off boost. Other networks can be spotty here and there in Metropolitan areas or when you need to access your email inside a department store click n collect but it's not a deal breaker

    • +1

Let us know what network you chose !!Ta

    • It's a two party system , you know you'll be back .

      • Not at the price they want, tell them they're dreaming

  • +3

I left few months ago to Coles (Optus network) so far no complain, will likely stay on. I live in brisbane metro though.

    • I'm planning to do that same. Hopefully there's a deal running when it's my turn to renew

  • +5

I've seen a big downgrade on the network now. Slow speed, no reception etc… I've had Optus for a months while switching back to Boost, and feels Optus was better now.
But yes those days, Boost was the best… But feels like no more…

    • +1

I put my wife on Boost mobile for a month saying Telstra network nice. She has always been on Optus network before.. She was complaining the whole month saying the service is terrible.I even locked her Iphone 13 down to 4G hoping it would improve. But no dice.I have put her on Amaysim now.

      • +1

same! Boost was really good over a year ago, but now I think I prefer Optus

  • If the website works.

I tried for a week to order a SIM on the boost site and it would not work.

    • Just bought $230 Sim pack few seconds back from boost website and it works….cashback from cr tracked..

      • I tried for a week to order a second sim. (First order worked after 5 tries)

Used different ID's, cards, addresses. All failed.

    • +1

Had similar issue last week when trying to order 2 x SIM cards in separate transactions so that Cashrewards track both.

      First ordered SIM#1 using Credit Card #1 -> Contact Person #1 -> Delivery Address #1 = OK

Then tried to order SIM#2 using Credit Card #1 -> Contact Person #1 -> Delivery Address #1 = Fail (generic "technical error").
For the next 5 hours, tried other combos and they all failed with the same "technical error", eg:
      SIM#2 using Credit Card #1 -> Contact Person #2 -> Delivery Address #1
      SIM#2 using Credit Card #1 -> Contact Person #3 -> Delivery Address #1

Eventually used different Credit Card and that worked:
      SIM#2 using Credit Card #2 -> Contact Person #1 -> Delivery Address #1

It would have been nice if their website returned payment error rather than generic message.

    • Many people in the original thread noted that debit MC/Visa worked where a credit card didn't. YMMV…

  • Boost and Telstra are still the only carriers where receiving calls when roaming is included/free right?

    • +3

I found this recently when travelling with no Roaming, I could still receive text messages. Great for 2 factor codes.

      • Oh awesome, were you able to receive calls too?

        • +1

You need to get an international pack which is an extra cost to receive calls from memory.

        • No, was just text messages.

    • +1

I don't think receiving calls is free when roaming unless you manage to be on vowifi .. you need to activate roaming l. Text messages you don't need to activate roaming

      • +1

Right yes, I think this is what I was thinking about!

Switching to Boost a week or so before I fly
        Get a local data sim
        Receive calls via vowifi ✨

        • +1

          Yep. This works a treat.

    • I think Vodafone also do it but not for the yearly SIM, you have to be on a contract plan.

  • Is this valid on esim?

    • +1

The $250 deal with $50 off code (haven't tested it though), yes. The $40 cashback, no.

      Boost Mobile Cashback
$300 Prepaid SIM (excludes eSIM) Exclusive $40

      • Thanks

  • Is it unlimited data (capped at low speeds) after the data is finished?

  • Was gonna switch back to boost.

Got a $10/10GB Amaysim SIM and turned off auto renew straight away. Then got an email offer from them, 25GB for $16.50 for 3 months. Auto renew turns on as well.

Seems like network is alright for now. Will ride out the 3 months and then see what Boost has to offer.

Only issue I have is reception at my farm, can be hit and miss with Optus, but worked reasonable well last time I was there.

  • +1

I bought the $230 SIM via Cashrewards recently and planning to move from Vodafone to Boost. Been hearing some people complaining about poor network coverage with Boost. Aren't they the only MNVO with full Telstra network access? Is it still true or is the Australian telco scene on a decline in general cause it feels like every network is bad these days.

    • As someone who lives in metro Melbourne, I feel that Boost has been awful over the last 6-9 months. I moved from Optus / Moose Mobile and once my 365 sim is done soon, I’ll probably move to whatever the cheapest provider on the Optus network is because Boost (which is albeit not expensive but certainly not the cheapest) has been pretty disappointing for me

      • We might need a Telstra customer to chime in to see if their network is getting bad. If not, I guess this claim of Boost getting full Telstra network access might have a caveat behind it.

  • Damnit, I was with boost last year. It was fast and never dropped out. Moved to Kogan and get constant drops outs and poor speed.

All these negative comment are putting me off… can't be worse than Kogan/Vodafone.

  • Was a Boost customer for the last 5 years. Looking at the recharge options filled with me an urge defecate.. So time to switch over to Catch/Optus for a year and see how that goes.

    • You don't want to go elsewhere for a month, eg Lebara $7 sim? Then you can go back to Boost as a new customer with this or the $170 option.

Of if you want to test Optus, get a $35 sim for $12 for a month, then see if you want to go to cheaper Catch Connect or similar for a year or go back to Boost and the extra.

      • +1

I bought a coles $10/32gb sim for 28 days. I bought the recent catch/optus deal for $109/120gb for 365 days. That's more than enough.

I've also had too many cashbacks from cash rewards/shopback don't track.. then they wriggle out of paying.. or when they do pay, have to wait 3-6 months for the cash to come through.

Better off just getting a bargain first time around rather than waiting.. Cashbacks are worthless.

  • This can't be used for recharge can it?

  • +1

No new SIM only, so you have to port out and back in

  • I have used Boost for 3 years, and it has become slower than the 1st year.
Have anyone tried Aldi or Woolworths?

    • I switched from Boost to Woolworth a month ago and activated eSIM .
Happy with the service and eligible for 10% discount for grocery purchase from Woolies ( once in a month ) and that discount itself pays off the phone plan.
Also you get to buy many other gift cards on a discounted rate .

      • Do you use monthly plan?
We only shop at Woolworths around $50-100 per week 😅

        • Yes, I use the 25$ monthly plan.

  • +1

Was on boost for 1 year and absolutely loved the speed and connectivity. Switched to amaysim purely for international roaming, already experiencing network issues. I only wish boost had amazing roaming plans like amaysim

  • Cant check out, keep getting:

    SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG
We’re sorry but we’re experiencing technical issues. Please try again later.

    • This happened to me too when using my ING debit card. Changed card and it worked straight away.

      • Ahh not sure why then, I've tried 3 different cards and even tried other browsers

        • I finally got it worked by using Topcashback app and purchased through the internal browser in that app.

          • @seanyong: Which Sim did you buy? I gave up on trying to order the $300 sim and called their support… they said "yeah it's because we're out of stock"
so dumb that they wait for you to enter all your details and payment to just give you a a vague message… instead of just not letting you add to cart bc OOS.

            • @iDrownFish: Really? Out of stock .. is that why it won’t go through for weeks?

            • @iDrownFish: I bought the $300 one. Their customer support has no clue…..

              • @seanyong: My god seriously.. lol
They were full repeating themselves and assuring me it's out of stock and giving me all these reasons about how they're changing the plans in Oct 22nd

  • Same, kept getting "Sorry, we are unable process your order. Please try again later."
Very annoying. Tried different browsers and cards still not working.

    • Finally worked by using Topcashback app and purchased through the internal browser in that app.

  • Does this issue happen when you try to pay via vanilla gift cards too?

  • Do I need to activate within 30 days of purchase to get the cash back like cashreward? My old boost expire May 25.

    • Nope, just by the expiry date on the sim pack, which I would imagine would be some time next year but I am not sure exactly.

Only thing is that you might just miss out on a little bonus data if they don't extend it.

260GB on activation for new customers. 240GB on next recharge. Activate by 21 October 2024.

  • Can’t get it to work in any way

  • If only this work on renewal

  • Still won’t work

  • I was on Boost for 5 years, and it wa perfect in my area.
This year they dropped international calls, so I went to Coles/Optus.
Optus quality hasn't improved much in those 5 years
