Boost got way too greedy by dropping their 160gb plan, I'll be leaving and moving my whole extended family off them too. I'm sure a whole swarm of others will leave too.

    • +3

      yep, me included! grubs!

currently on the lookout for a good deal on the 160GB SIM with a long SIM expiry. The longest I've found is Jan 6th 2025, but my current 12 month plan goes on until Feb.

worst case I might just activate in Jan and forgo the month on my current plan.

Or else switch to another provider.

      lebara$119 - price beat @ ow $113)

      • -1

Not identical for price match lol

        • ? I’m talking about the Lebara plan $119 price beat it at ow as they still have it at $160

    • +5

I suspect it isn't Boost, but rather Telstra that has dropped the underlying product. Woolies have also dropped their version.

      • +4

        Corporate greed

I hate the price of the new Boost plans but I really do feel a big difference using the Telstra network after using Kogan for years. Hate that there's no real competitor for Telstra :(

      • You do realise if a competitor wanted a similar network to Telstra, their price would increase?

        • +1

Which is exactly why it's unfair. Telstra used taxpayer funding to make their network as strong as it is.

Then once they became private, they realised the others can't compete with them and made themselves the most expensive provider, knowing that no one can touch them.

          • @starbearer: Your timeline is way out sorry. They were private when they started rolling out their next g network. Shareholders thought it was a waste of money and Sol Trujillo was basically forced to resign. Then turned out it was a genius investment when voda and Optus networks fell over.

The government was a 16% shareholder at this time and tipping in no money. The shares were in Australia’s future fund.

            Do better research.

    • I remember Boost being of the cheapest if you want to use the Telstra network… those days are gone :(

    • Me & missus moved off Boost, we were pretty light users of their 365 day plans, but the price rises were way too steep.

      • @Wrathie Which plan are you using now?

        • +2

          I moved to woolworths plan
          $170
          125gb
Telstra network not as good as boost but i don't go where they are telstra/ boost only towers
And get 10% of once a month at woolies

    • +1

Boost is the only telco on the full Telstra network so there’s not much choice ..

    • +1

Just like most companies that have done enough to develop a solid base.

I don't need 240 gigs or whatever their top tier 365 day prepaid plan is, but are there better MVNO offers that provides equivalent services compared to Boost? Telstra 5G, call over wifi etc?

      • -1

I don't need 5g. I don't need call over wifi. Having better network coverage is good but I'm not willing to pay what they are asking for it

        • Thanks for your insight but it doesn't really answer my question.

Which MVNO is reputatale out there with reasonable offers?

  • +2

I needed to recharge recently, rang up & was able to get 200gig for $200. Not saying this isn't a good deal from OP, just advising in case others are in need of a top up & don't need so much data.

    • Not bad actually - I bought one of those discounted packs off ebay that expire in Jan and ported out a few days ago to felix (voda network)

Already feeling the network difference, in a bad way but will suffer through for a while longer before porting back

    • +1

Dunno if there are any left, but the latest expiry date I've seen is May 2025 from ebay sellers

    • Any tips on how to get the 200gb for $200? Meets my requirements but boost are not budging on the 170gb for $230.

  • +4

Anyone having issues with checking out? Keeps on saying unable to process order.

    • Yeah I can’t check out

      • Its been 24 hrs and the issue is still there - can't check out for the life of me.

        • You using TopCashback by any chance?

          • @BarryBargain88: I've tried with or without, and also using shopback, and also on mobile - all says "Sorry, we are unable process your order. Please try again later."

            • @jpwwong: Actually a common problem if you search it on ozbargain/google. I can’t get it to process though even with the solutions suggested

              • @BarryBargain88: Geez I wanna spend money but they are certainly making it hard!

                • @jpwwong: Used Microsoft Edge browser and it worked! The website must not like both firefox and chrome.

            • @jpwwong: I keep getting this and tried on so many diff browsers

    • Did you manage to order? Also getting this issue now.

  • Any other provider offering the 12 month prepaid, 5G, telstra or non-telstra network, about 120-160GB/year ?

    • Woolworths if your quick their 125gb for $170 is ending soon

  • Whats a good sim to port out and port back onto Boost with one of these?

    • +1

Telstra $2 - Colin 2905 gives his experience with tips https://www.ozbargain.com.au/folder/32001

      • +1

No way. Telstra and boost are the two that absolutely don't mix for porting

    • Not Telstra. Telstra and boost don't mix for porting. Unless you want to screw around with blank temporary sims, postal delays to get them and customer service

      • Post Paid Telstra to Boost can only be done via Boost customer support and is not always straightforward. Prepaid Telstra to Boost is no problem. Telstra sim for $2 can be ordered online from Telstra with free delivery, or is in stock at most OW. Porting from Boost to Telstra $2 sim and back can be done predictably online.

    • For the last few years I've been calling Boost and telling them I purchased the wrong item. They register the new SIM, transfer the credit across to my existing SIM, then close the new SIM.

Porting in/out is a last alternative if you can't find a helpful operator. Whilst you can use Telstra, it's better (quicker and easier) to port out of Telstra to someone on Optus/Vodafone's network as porting out of the carrier is regulated. Optus often has a week free eSIM if your phone supports eSIM Optus Network Trial (No longer supports porting during trial, argh!)

This year I transferred the wife to Woolworths' 12 months mobile plan (now grandfathered), which should pay for itself in shopping discounts if she plans it out (unlikely!)

  • Thanks, got one and $6 back with cashrewards

  • For those into cashbacks, there is $40 cashback from TopCashback for this SIM: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/865355

  • Anyone been able to order on the Boost website? I'm getting an error on checkout, tried multiple times with different browsers etc.

    • No, their checkout is broken. Have you been with boost in the past? I think that’s the issue

      • Never been with Boost before, so this is frustrating.

        • Been with Telstra before? I feel it’s people who have a Telstra ID

          • @BarryBargain88: Ah I have been with Telstra before. Why would that be an issue though?

            • @rev0: It shouldn’t be but I’m guessing it’s detecting us as not a new customer and therefore not allowing us to purchase.

  • If I'm currently on 365 day pre paid boost, can I just get one of these? Can I roll from boost to boost?

    • +1

If it's expiring you can move to another provider for one or 2 days and then move back to Boost with NEW sim

      • So if expiring in a few days.. do we need to buy a new boost sim with a new number or choose the existing option please?

        Phone number
Do we use our existing boost mobile number that is expiring soon here? Or leave blank? If possible

Keep your number or get a new one
You can choose to keep your current mobile number and transfer it to your new Boost service or use the number that comes with the SIM. Once your new SIM arrives, you can make this selection when you activate your SIM.

        Thanks

    • +1

Best to port out to another service provider for a day or two then back to boost. Better to be safe than sorry.

      • Best sims to port out for 2 days?

        • Sorry I didn't see this notification at all.

          Vodaphone or Kogan.

      • So if expiring in a few days.. do we need to buy a new boost sim with a new number or choose the existing option please?
