  • What's with the huge premiums when flying from Gold Coast and Canberra? They are hardly Changi

    • +11

sydney / mel are the only real cities

    • +5

No direct flights from OOL or CBR to SIN with SIA, so you pay for the connecting flight to SYD/MEL/BNE

    • +1

      The Canberra tax is real

    • +30

Thank you for protecting the rest of us.

    • +5

      Didn't ask

    • +4

      Yes please stay there!

      • No! We don't want them!

    • ok

  • +3

Is this the real Singapore or Scoot?

    • +7

      Flight Code:
      1 - SQ1 - SQ999 | Singapore Airlines
      2 - TR1+ | Scoot
3 - SQ1000+ | Codeshare, check the “operating carrier” section in the flight info window when booking

      • +14

Thanks, but I really never want to fly scoot again.
And I think it's deceptive Singapore advertise 2 leg flights as Singapore when half is scoot.
For transparency it really should say Singapore/scoot.

    • +3

All flights and prices listed in this deal are for flights operated by Singapore Airlines.

  • +14

Only another 8 hours on top of a direct flight. That's what I want, to almost double the time spent getting there.

    • +14

Came here to say that. Look, I know it's breaking Ozbargain code, but at a certain point time is worth more than money. Save 100 bucks but turn a 9-10 hour flight into a 16-17 hour flight?

      • +4

Not necessarily, on some dates from BNE the direct with JQ after bags and seats ect are cheaper than this deal

        • +3

The abbreviation of etcetera is etc. not ect. The word is not 'ectera'.

      • +3

Exactly. I got those Qantas Melb - Tokyo direct for about $900 and then I keep seeing these deals come up and before getting annoyed realise I don't have to sit in another airport for xxxx hours.

    • +3

I have been looking at these dates the last week or two to book, and the direct airfares have gone through the roof this week. Qantas first and JAL followed.
But.. the layovers and extra time with kids, it’s just not worth the saving. Cathay Pacific had some similar options and prices, but the first flight to HK is comparable length to direct to Tokyo. No thanks!

    • +2

Not if you’re from Adelaide - we get direct to Singapore then Tokyo. If we book Qantas Jetstar etc it’s usually changing planes somewhere in Australia so in the end the travel time is comparable.

      • Looking to book from Adelaide with a "turdler". Any tips?

        • +1

A plane flight is not the time to reduce screen time. Pre download shows you know they like on to a tablet/iPad. Bring snacks you know they like. Let them sleep if they like but don’t try to force it. Grit your teeth and bear it, it’ll be over eventually.

          • @em: Cheers. But I meant more flight connection/ best options. Ie. Singapore stop over for a couple of days would be great.. or maybe HK stop over instead etc? From Adelaide.

            • @tunzafun001: I prefer to rip the band aid off, ie get it done as quickly as possible, we usually leave Adelaide at 6am and in Tokyo by 7pm. I have friends who always do a stop over. I prefer not to deal with multiple international locations and bag drops and airport transfers if I can avoid it.

Usually a night or two isn’t enough time for the kids to get settled down either. When we stay in Japan with kids we try and do minimum 4 nights in a location if possible.

So really up to you! Maybe someone else will chime in.

    • This is only relevant for east coast. For Adelaidians, these deals are pure gold!

    • No direct flights from Perth anymore. But at least they had them when I lived in Japan I guess.

      • I thought ANA has direct flights to Narita from Perth?
I'm tossing up whether to commit to these SIN flights or wait to see if ANA will have a sale soon… I'm flying with 2 young kids so would prefer a direct flight but this SIN sale price is pretty tempting…

        • Yes, ANA has direct flights from Perth to Tokyo, it is 2 or 3 flights per week. Usually it costs A$1k+ for economic.

    • you don't need to sleep ? I mean real sleep, not dozing off an hour or two during the whole journey.

      • +1

I want to wire up my brain if I can.

  • Any idea how many days recomemded for a family with 2 young kids to spend at japan? Is two weeks enough? Thanks

    • +2

Japan is very long span from North to South. Need to proper plan where and what interested you. For 1st timer Tokyo -Kyoto-Osaka route. 2 weeks is fine.

    • You will love it as long as you want and can

    • 2 weeks is plenty. Just don't try to hit too many different places as it will get very hectic.

    • +1

We spent nearly a month there and only did some of the “middle”. Two weeks is fine for two bigger cities perhaps. It’s a big country.

    • Just be careful to avoid golden week (29/04/2025 - 05/05/2025)

    • +2

Hope ur kids like walking. There for 2 weeks and averaged 15k steps a day

    • Just booked to take a 4.5, 3 and almost 2 in Feb. We are doing just under two weeks.
Tokyo Disney > Tokyo > Osaka w Kyoto day trip > Tokyo and home.
We think that will be more than enough for everyone as a first big adventure.
We did three weeks pre-kids with a few more stops, but trying not to over complicate this one with all the kid factors.

  • The prices shown don't match what Singapore advertises on their website.

    • Usually prices are more expensive on the SQ site… Really just depends if you wanna take the risk with OTAs or not

    • Dont forget SIA price match

  • Is it cheap because japan will have bad weather at that time of the year or something?

    • Becoming competitive with direct and connecting flights. Almost coming down to precovid price. Top destination globally with many reason and safety is one of the top reason I think. All other countries are whether on war, riots, conflicts…..

      • All other countries are whether on war, riots, conflicts…..

Not really, just stay off the news, FB and Twitter

        • +1

lol so true. I used to work with a nut job woman who 100% thought that Australia would start conscripting (forcing) people to join the army to go and fight in the Ukraine and was preparing to leave the country because of that. Dont be that person that watches the "news" 24/7.

  • +1

I know this is niche but it’s worth noting they’re also doing very cheap business class seats from Japan to Australia in business class too. Unfortunately going in is still expensive but I bought Osaka to Mel via Singapore in march for only $1600, crazy considering Singapore to Mel is $3000!

This really shifts the extra time the flights take as it gives you more time to enjoy the business class experience, plus the excellent lounge at Changi in between

    • -4

spend $ on direct, business, economy, 1st class all rubbish.

    • Potentially good for status runs… Do you know the fare class at all?

      • Biz Lite, D

  • -7

too many japan deal, by now all should have been there 20 times.

  • hello, any flight from Perth to Tokyo around 25-Mar - 2-April? Thanks

  • +4

Jan-Feb dates I saw are coldest middle of winter - froze my ass off one Feb in Kyoto - the puddles were frozen and we had to be careful not to slip and fall on the ice

  • OP, for your Singapore Airlines deals, I recommend you add an extra paragraph extolling the benefits of joining Krisflyer:

    • Earn points (miles) which can be transferred to other programs
    • Free WiFi on most flights
  • The price seems to be third party website, different price when trying to book to SIA directly

  • I'm thinking of a trip to Japan in Feb, but want a direct flight. Reckon ANA will have return trips for $1200 or less from now until then?

  • Deal expired? I could've sworn I read it didn't expire until October but I must've read incorrectly =(
