    • except they are an energy retailer for more than 10 years.

Obviously scamming people then with higher normal rates.

        • +2

I switched to them in July after statewide price increase on 1 Aug.
They have the cheapest rate in my area at the moment.
I switch my energy provider every 6 months or so, to whoever has the cheapest rate.

            @AsukaST:

They have the cheapest rate in my area at the moment.

The would be cheaper without these gimmicks.

            • +2

              @jv: You can't proof that.
But they are already the cheapest even without these gimmicks.
Just take it as a bonus.

                @AsukaST:

                You can't proof that.

They are giving you 27% 'free' credit each month. How much is that over a year?
What are the current interest rates?

Obviously this cost is being passed onto customers.

                • +1

@jv: Where do you get this 27% number?
7/30= 23.33%, plus my monthly bill is much higher than $30.

It's half a glass of water theory.
Given they already have the cheapest rates,
I see it as other retailers are profiting too much rather than Powershop is scamming me.

I see it as other retailers are profiting too much

I see it as they can afford to lower their rates rather than offer unrealistic free credit…

                    • +1

@jv: Just don't sign up then. Join a provider with higher nominal rates and even higher effective rates.

Good deal just bought. Also buy the $37 credit for $30 packs each month. With just under 23c per kWh (both peak and off-peak) and free electricity between 12-2pm, the EV day plan works well for me.

Also btw if using a referral make sure the account is still active. Been refused referral credits in the past because fellow Ozbargainers leave their old codes up after churning

    • Same plan here as well with roughly the same rates. Everywhere else just seems a lot more expensive.

    Not available for me…. weird.

    • same.. got nothing in November (did get the October one)

  • This is great, cause I could buy it with the 150$ signup credit. Did not know before about the 37 for 30…

Rates wise not the best for me but if I get free credit.

  • Bought but in the app mines only showing as $20 value. Anyone else having same issue?

    • +1

      ya, that's how it shows.
But you can still see your purchased pack under that.
It will be applied when your bill is issued.

this is good but its really not much… most ppl bill would be around $100 a month so $40 credit is basically like 1.5 weeks.. akin to maybe 4 days free gas/electricity.. basically negligible if they are a on high rate plan

    • On what planet do you have a $100 monthly power bill and how do I get there?

    • It's 3 minutes for a few days of electricity, I'm not complaining.

  • +1

Is it targeted? I cant find it my app

  • +1

When you move Electricity co, do you have to do anything to keep getting the federal gov rebate?

  • Like others above, i don't see it in my account. I had previously grabbed the 37 for 30 pack. Maybe this is targeted?

  • +1

Left these guys aa they bumped up rates way above their competitors. I lost a bunch of money buying these prepaid packs. They don't refund you if you leave them before using it.

So you forfeit these funds, or stay with them paying higher rates.

    • That's not true. you can cancel your future pack anytime and get a refund on the app, website, or on the phone.

    • When I was with them, around 2015-2020, I found the way they encourage prepaid credit made it difficult to get a feel for my actual usage, meanwhile during that time, if I didn't get any prepaid credit and just paid based on my usage, their standard rate was higher than what I could get with other retailers.

Sure, this prepaid hassle was worth it cos they were a green company with everything supposedly offset, IIRC? But I didn't sign up with them when I moved and I never looked back, especially after they were acquired by Shell. I don't know if things have changed since then.

  • I'm new to Powershop, but I don't really 'get' it.

I got $225 sign up credit. I bought the October Future Credit Power Pack for $30 using credit. It says year Power Pack is 'worth $37', but I only have $30 applied to my account.

      • Thanks.

So if I don't want to pay $ for my bills I need to purchase Power Packs using credit?

        • Not too sure what you are trying to ask.

When you get your electricity bill, they will first deduct from your future pack, then credits and government rebate, then you will have to pay the balance left.

There are some special future packs occasionally, but you can only purchase 1x $37 for $30 future pack each month.

Of course you may prepaid your bill by purchasing $1 for $1 credit anytime.

          • @AsukaST: Got it. So if I have credits there's no benefit in buying anything other than discounted power packs.

            Thanks

            • @prhino: The credit also gets put towards future bills automatically
