Nice, heavy mechanical pencil, the lead turns while you write. I've had my eye on one of these for awhile. I was looking for an office supply to collect a $10 voucher and this was the only thing that interested me. It's at a pretty good price too. The lowest it's been in awhile, not the lowest it's been. Hard to complain for the price. Even better that I still have a few days left in my Prime trial and it'll be in Perth tomorrow for free. It also qualifies for save 10% on a $40 spend that has some very strange items in it, but none of that helped me. Here is a review if you don't already know what you're looking at. Enjoy!

    Thanks OP, got one

Is there a reason why you chose this $13.99 listing from sinsen_inc for your post instead of these $13.00 listings from sukiyaki_japan and T's Garden?

    • They are all $13.99.

      • +1

They are now. They were not.

        • I guessed so—thanks for the clarification.

I noticed that Amazon randomly changes prices by a few cents often for some items.

        • Can vouch I saw it for $13 as well before

      • +2

And now $16.49… talk about surge pricing.

  • Recommendations for lead to pair with this?

      uni nano dia

      • These were/are the best I've used, Uni NanoDia Low Wear 0.5 mm H is my go-to, and still have lots left. But you won't find them anymore by that name, Uni stopped calling them that.

They are now called Uni Smudge-Proof. No idea if they are any different. People I've spoken to say its excatly the same.

Ive got one and it’s not heavier than plastic ones. At least it doesn’t feel like it.

  • Good timing. I'm fed up with pens giving up the ghost mid-sentence on sticky notes. Going back to lead!

  • +3

I'd totally get one if my 3yo wasn't obsessed with stealing my pens and pencils.

😄 And it doesn’t stop as they get older, though my kids now just leave random scribblings and words on my note pad on their way past.

Picked up one of these in Japan. No idea how good it was, never seen or heard of it prior. Just performed well when I wrote with it. Probably the best pencil I've ever used, found it was difficult to find in Australia.

  • god tier pencil

premium feeling and elite build quality + rotation lead tech

  • What 10 dollar voucher ?

  • If you write in cursive like me avoid this

Punctuation is uncertain, but alright. I like you.

      • Do.you write in cursive?

  • I paid 12.99 from Amazon about 1 month ago after I misplaced my daily writer.

TBH, I don't like it, its far too light and a bit too plasticity at the top end which makes it a bit bottom heavy. Down at the cone, the way it tapers with 90 degree cuts does make the pencil a bit uncomfortable. My daily was the Zebra DelGuard Type Lx

I do have the basic Uni Kuru Toga Advance Mechanical Pencil which is more evenly weighted.

BTW. A few days after receiving the Roulette, I found my DelGuard Lx. I would also love an orange Dive, just to look at and admire.

    • Thanks for this! Was just about to order but you made me change my mind. I don’t like light pencils either. What’s your daily now?

      • +1

Not op but I just bought a Lamy 2000 for $91 (totally out of this price range) and it’s perfect if that’s in your budget (and it comes with 4 year warranty in Australia).

Haven’t tried but also highly recommended are rotring 600 and staedtler 925

        • +1 for RR600

    • So what’s your all time favourite?

      • No idea. I love the Uni Kuru Toga Advance for the constant sharp lead, which is why I use that in the office for brainstorming and diagrams. A nice sharp tip avoids me having to rotate the pencil with my thumb on the lift. But I dislike the mushy feel of the tip when pencil hits paper, and the cone for long writing sessions.

I find the Zebra DelGuard Type Lx more comfortable (cone + weight + balance), but I'm not one to snap leads in pencils, so the DG-Lx party tick is a bit unneeded for me. But to maintain a sharp tip I need to rotate on the lift using my thumb (which I don’t need to do for the KT).

The mushy tip Uni Kuru Toga Advance is a common fault which triggers some people more than others. The pricier models do have a kind of tip damper in the tip to minimise this, the Metal and Dive have this.

Got lots of other drafting pencils, rOtring's and more Uni's. Some I’ve never opened, different colors, limited ed’s etc.

If the Roulette was a bit better balanced, more weighty (I know they have rubber/gel grip ones which are heavier, but I dislike those soft-touch pencils) then it would be my ultimate, and would live with the mushy tip.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Kuru Toga, so much so that it’s my most common pencil, collecting quite a few of them over the years.
I’ll probably get the Uni Kuru Toga Metal next, but there is a big jump in price over the Roulette. Slightly more weight (so probably more balanced) over the Roulette, appears to have a smother tip (comfort), and has the damper (minimise mushy feel). Bit hard to find outside Japan.

  • Pentel Smash is my current favourite. Maybe not as heavy as some of you guys want, but I rate them. The body appears to be metal, with the square rubber bits on the grip sticking out which is great for me.

Not looked into better led, but maybe one of the ones suggested above would be a good upgrade.

  • if anyone is thinking about getting this pencil two things from my experience
    1. from memory the grip is metal, but the rest of the pencil body is a silver plastic, not actual metal.
    2. the lead rotates by pushing on the lead. I either write to softly or hold my pencil on to much of an angle, so most of the time it doesn't apply enough force to rotate, so i get the usual 'lop-sided' wear that other pencils have. (and yes the mechanism work, i can push it down and watch the symbol going past the little window.

my everyday favourite is still the graphgear 1000
