        Stare at it please

Very hard to get a screen protector fitted without using loca glue too.

And screens are much more expensive to repair.

Would never go back to one.

  • the edge 50 neo is available as well in Lenovo website for 699$ 669$ on mobile citi. Same specs everything but smaller, lower tier chipset ( dimensity 7300 ) and flat display

    • or $648.99 and a $100 Mastercard GC from Mobileciti eBay

      • Shows $678.99 with eBay plus member only coupon applied. Which coupon code does it for $648.99?
$100 MasterCard GC given by Mobileciti themselves or by online redemption on Motorola Australia website?

    • I'm getting the Neo myself eventually, but another couple of points in favour of this model is the aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass 5, whereas the Neo disappointingly has a plastic frame and Gorilla Glass 3 (worse than the cheaper Fusion).

I also personally prefer the Jungle Green here compared to the colour selection for the Neo, but I'll just have to live with it. Also worth noting is that the little Pantone colour square on the back of the Neo is not removable, and is present on all three colours. For the regular Edge 50, only "Peach Fuzz" is a Pantone colour so the other two colours don't have the square. I want to see how the 'Poinciana' looks like in person though, given that I like orange but dislike red. Reviewers have noted it looks great in a way that photographs can't convey, but I'll have to be convinced it's not too red.

Hopefully JB have the same $100 offer even if it's just a JB gift card instead of a prepaid Mastercard. This was the case last time around for the Edge 50 Pro where they did a $300 JB gift card and Mobileciti did a $300 Mastercard.

I loaded up on some 10% off gift cards from Woolies last week, so assuming JB have a launch offer:
      $699
      - $30 perks coupon
      - $67 payment with discounted gift cards
      - $100 gift card bonus
      = $502

A much more palatable looking price given the inflated RRP for a mid-ranger.

  • the moto 50 edge fusion is $100 off, down to $499 but no gift card , like the idea of a 2024 release phone for longevity of updates but $500 for. mid range phone ?

    • Basically, Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Neo and Edge 50 are all the same price at JB after GC Rebate!

One baffling negative about this phone is despite it being the second most expensive model in the Edge 50 family (at least, the ones sold in Australia as we don't get the Ultra), it only promises two Android upgrades. By comparison, the Pro and the Fusion come with three, and the Neo somehow comes with five.

Edge 50 Pro, $1000, three updates
    Edge 50, $800, two updates
Edge 50 Neo, $700, five updates
Edge 50 Fusion, $600, three updates

    Thanks Motorola.

EDIT: That said, GSMArena appear to have updated it to five updates in their database. All the launch articles from when this phone launched in India a couple of months ago still have it as two updates. I wonder if this is due to the phone being launched in the EU and Motorola having to adjust to new EU legislation. Take it with a grain of salt though, I can't find any information corroborating this news.

    • yes, it's why I was looking at the fusion, for more updates. Partially due to how long Qualcomm and Mediatek support chips and some of the software which they probably provide to the manufacturers.

Photo quality across the Edge 50 range, how do they rate? In price order?

    Pro
    Edge
    Neo
    Fusion

Are any of them approaching Pixel / Samsung / iPhone quality yet?

    • +1

Physically the Pro, Edge and Neo all have the exact same camera setup, so I would expect no difference between them. The Fusion comes with a more basic array, notably dropping the telephoto lens.

7 gen 1 is pretty garbage relative to the cost. Worse than the snapdragon 865. Poco x6 pro deal was better and cheaper

  • Just like my Edge 30 and all other Moto's, this will be half price within a year.

  • Curved, and lost both the SD and 3.5mm; I still personally need one or the other. Not a fan of having to run a 'hub' for dongles.

  • Is this phone any good? Not sure what to go for out of this the Neo or Samsung A55?
Or is there something better out there? Not wanting to spend more than $800
