  • Any tips for travelling with a 4yr old.

Ie. where to stay? (without paying $10000000 a night).

Should we just transit through Singapore for a couple of days, then on to say… Vietnam? or somewhere else? (Thailand is probably a bad idea with a 4yr old).

*Will be likely booking 2 tickets with cash, and one with KF points.

    • +1

Try Ibis hotel or one from the Worldwide Hotels group (
      10% off w EDM10 code).
I couldn't find any stay with airbnb much cheaper than regular hotels, just larger apartments.
2 days might not be enough.

    • +3

Thailand is great with a 4YO…mine was 4YO when we first took her to Phuket and she loved it.

    • +3

I dont see why Thailand is worse than anywhere else for a 4yr old. I'd argue, given so many coastal beach type locations, itd be one of the best.

      • -2

I don't see a point of travelling for 8 hours on a plane to see a coastal beach when there are dozens or hundreds of nice beaches in AU within 4h flight distance.

        • +6

Because they are far cheaper even accounting for an 8 hour flight.

        • +6

Immersing yourself in a different culture/vibe/history. Experiencing different vegetation and landscapes to Australia. ie. the whole point of travelling somewhere else? This is the kind of thing you hear Americans say and they wonder why they're the most insular and ignorant people on the planet.

          • @gyrex: In case you completely misunderstood my comment it was about the beaches, not culture, vibe, etc…

    • +1

Phuket is great with a small kid. Just stay within a walking distance to the beach.

    • fairmont is pretty good, nice big, new and clean.

  • CNSs… pronounced Kansas?

    • Thanks for that, fixed.

  • +2

    Great prices for Singapore Airlines.

Similar prices can be had to:
    - Kuala Lumpur
    - Phuket
    - Bangkok
    (via layover in Singapore)

    Open jaw also available e.g. MEL-SIN-HKT KUL-SIN-MEL

    • Time limit on the layover? say 2 days doable?

      • No stopovers over 24 hrs allowed on this discount fare type. A layover under 24 hrs is the limit.

        • +1

Used to be able to pay $100 for that? no longer an option?

          • +1

@tunzafun001: Sure, it’s an option if you don’t mind paying more. Go ahead and price it for yourself in Google Flights multi city search.

  • +4

cheaper than flying return to Perth with Qantas ….

    • +12

      And a lot more civilised:)

It's a joke that flying Qantas Sydney to Perth return is $2,192 compared to flying Singapore Airlines SYD-SIN-PER then PER-SIN-SYD which is $1,316.

Singapore Airlines have flights to Korea and Japan for almost the same price as this. Worth considering adding the extra destination if you are just going for a holiday.

      • +6

singapore is a great destination for travel with kids. one of the safest if not safest destinations in the world, clean, good public transport network and pram friendly. lots of activities for the kids /theme parks and tourist friendly. reasonably cheap, delicious food. the only downside is the humidity/heat and accommodation is costly.

          • +3

@princesszeldachechen: you should spend more than one day there and you might find out where the attractions are. you'd be hard pressed to do sentosa island in a day and that's not counting universal studio

      • What is that to see in Japan? Grey, dull, crowded city of Tokyo? Natural wonders? Yes, but every country has them, they are just different. Architectural icons? After traveling in China most of Japanese ones look just similar.
Personally, cannot understand why people place Japan, as tourist destinatination, above other countries. It's certainly unique and has its character, but there're tons of other fascinating destinations in the world.

        • japan is the greatest country to visit. statistics speak for itself. the magnitude only the whole europe can match.

      • -4

Korea is so much more comfortable to travel to. Japan is like 90s punk with fax and only cash and smoking indoors.

        • +3

I like Korea too but Japan is great now. I went this year and didn't need to use cash for anything but charging my Suica and smoking is limited to hot boxes.

      • Korea's great. An underrated, less crowded version of Japan imo

  • Will prices get cheaper than this?

    • If you can get these prices for dates you like I would lock it in.

    • Nobody really knows.

Depends if it looks good to you + you're ready to book = go for it (and don't look back).

Remember, if you're not comfortable with the offer, there'll always be another one.

    • +3

so is driving, or walking on the foot path, or eating - you might choke, best avoid

  • Sorry to ask this. First time trying to use IWTF. I checked the ticket is cheap. When I select to book, there is a list of agents to book from eg Networkflight, MyTrip, Gotogate etc. Which agent do I book from? I read their reviews and only 1*. Anyone had any incident of tickets not being booked or no seats available etc. I am worried because I will be travelling with a Person with Autism so doesn't want to cause any anxiety. Appreciate anyone who can share their experiences. Thank you.

    • +1

Anyone had any incident of tickets not being booked or no seats available etc

If you need certainty, book direct with the airline and not the agent. You'll pay a bit more, but If the flight changes for any reason there is one less layer of admin to work through. The online agents tend to get folks in with cheap ticket prices, but where they make real money is in upselling or otherwise charging high admin fees for changes.
