The ryzen 5 with 4050 was 1097 weeks ago but i was too slow :(

      • 4060

        • -1

Yes. That's the GPU. Graphics Processor Unit.

    • +1

Ryzen 5 came with 4050, this model has 4060.

      • worth the $400 extra for just cpu and gpu?

        • +3

I mean… those two components (in particular) go a long way as far as the core function of a gaming laptop is concerned.

          • @anonywhy: yeah true those are un upgradeable…. i'll check some benchmark comparison later maybe worth if performance is 15% better or more.
but those $1497 even after TRS refund, still a bit too much for me…

  • +5

Damn son, 10 years worth the wait for first bargain post it looks like.

    Looks good

  • -5

Meh doesnt have, oled, cant upgrade ram and probably overheats fast. Nice for gamers but the other model with the 4050 wouldve been better in terms of bargain.

Waiting for a 32gb ryzen 7 copilot oled bargain myself

    • +5

This laptop has 2 RAM slots with heatshield and thermal pads. Cooling system is actually very good - dual heatsink/fan. Essentially same internals as this.. Why jump to conclusions? Acer has done an excellent job for the price.

      • Oh the ram has 2 slots so assuming this is 16gb upgradeable is not that bad and the review of the cooling sounds pretty good. I think the cheaper bargain was much better still but depends on what games you play i guess.

Still want a copilot ddr5 ryzen 7 laptop, not a gamer just oure business.

        • Yep, comes with 1x16GB DDR5 5200. Price/performance ratio of the 4050 deal was better, but for the price, this is still very good value

x86 Copolit laptops are still a few months away

          • @Murpha: thanks i will wait for the gpu 4050 again. this one $1497 kind of out of budget range

      • How many NVME / Storage slots does it have? this price is definitely very good..

  • Why are 4:3 square screens being made for this laptop? They also have other Nitro models with 16:9 screens.

edit: ok so it's a 16:10, still looks squarish to me

    • +4

Its 16:10 which is much better than 16:9 but maybe not as good as 3:2.

More and more notebooks are going back to that format after falling out of fashion over ten years ago./*

      • Was just reading up about the comeback of 16:10 screens, I never even knew they were a thing. Never used one but I can see the benefit of more text on the screen vertically.

I upgraded my old Nitro V about 6 weeks ago and noticed this. Was wondering why they had 2 models and completely ruled out the V16 models and bought a V15.

  • ASUS ROG models are at least $1000 more than this, and even then I’d hesitate on those, despite them being built by a company that specialises is high end gaming solutions.

Having said that their vivobooks and zenbooks are excellently priced.

I’ve never been a fan of Acer or MSI laptops. ASUS “should” know what they are doing and how to deal with the the heat from the OLED screen AND a RTX 4060, however I would still suspect a lot of fan noise or a lot of thermal throttling.

Hence the IPS screen, but OLED screens can eat battery life if you aren’t careful, they are getting better, still this is a high spec machine from Acer.

Me personally, I still would have trouble buying one as a mobile gaming platform, but even worry about the hours from non gaming use.

    • Having had hands on this exact laptop, it has no trouble dealing with heat . Two fans, 4 heatsink areas, and large vents. While no match for an OLED, I was pleasantly surprised with the IPS panel, particularly at this price point. I unboxed this laptop not expecting much, but it certainly has impressed. Yes, it's mostly plastic, but it is sturdier than I original assumed.

  • Good deal that can stack with GC discount. Good CPU and GPU. Bad screen though.

    • Which GC discount is this?

i think those sold at coles/ww, the card that can be exchanged/used at many stores.
but they are not always on special/discounted.

Is TGP of 55W an issue?

    • +4

This is what I hate with laptops, hard to know what you're getting at a glance. I was comparing the 4050 version of this model with other laptops that rated their 4050 at 105W TGP and yet the Acer kept pace and out performed some (although they had lower end CPU's).
So I think this one isn't limited that much by its power, it does say it has 30W dynamic boost so potentially runs at 85W when needed making it more comparable? From what other comments are saying the cooling is also decent which also ends up being a limiting factor in performance.

the graphics card only has 8GB?

    In this day and age?

    • +1

      i failed to find a laptop with 4060ti 16GB…..

  • +1

    Tempting. I'm also considering https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/lenovo-legion-slim-5-gen-9-(16-inch-amd)/83dh006uau
It's more, but Shopback is 10.4% today.
$400 more, but 10% off, so closer to $200 more.

    • What is it about the Lenovo that you prefer over the Acer Nitro? They are both pretty similar in specifications.

      • +1

probably the built quality. acer nitro V series is the budget

      • +2

Build quality. Better hinges, made of metal instead of plastic, 200g lighter, higher resolution screen and doesn't wobble. I'm actually curious if that screen can be upgraded.

        • I can do trs but still out of my budget even after trs

        • Did you end up buying it? Seems very good for the price if you also got 10% cashback.

I also noticed this has 2yr onsite warranty, that more than makes up for the higher cost along with better specs.

What do you mean by doesn't wobble, do the Nitro's actually vibrate when under load?

          • @closed: No, I held off as I don't need one until I travel early next year. Ideally I'd like a 1kg laptop and have an external full-powered GPU (via an external enclosure with USB4), not the low-powered mobile variants.
With the upcoming Strix (Halo) APU I'm expecting more price drops before next year. If I was travelling next month, I'd have snapped this up.

As for the wobble, I mean that you can easily torque the monitor. The metal frame is more sturdy.

    • +1

Acer model has a significantly better processor.

  • is that 4.5 hours battery even when not gaming?
