Planning to purchase this washing machine for a while, and alway around $900 on the market, but when I randomly search it online today, it is $699.

I would say $699 including free delivery is a good deal, but this price is only for WHITE.

Samsung is the only brand that can get away with so much anti-consumer behaviour and quality control issues.
People need to stop buying their products if they care about their own safety.

      • +2

It's not Samsung, it's inadequate consumer protection laws Australia has. Companies do whatever they can legally get away with.

it's inadequate consumer protection laws Australia has

What are you talking about, Australia has some of the best consumer protection laws in the world.

Companies do whatever they can legally get away with.

This applies to everyone everywhere. If you found $20 on the ground would you keep it or report it?

          • +1

@1st-Amendment: Are you dreaming? Look up consumer protection laws in Germany and France. Also, going to court in Australia is expensive and complicated, whereas in European countries it's affordable and easy. And it's not just consumer protection matters but civil ones, too. Try suing a builder for building defects…

            • @beesider:

Look up consumer protection laws in Germany and France

So out of 200-odd countries in the world you could only come up with 2 that you feel (and it's only a feeling because you failed to provide any evidence) are better than Australia? So that's put us third in the world then?

              • @1st-Amendment: We're considered a developed nation so should compare with like for like. It's not a feeling but a fact, you can look up everything online. I've lived in other developed countries and can tell you consumer law here sucks. Also the British law system is much more complex and expensive to sue in. We have some weird "bodies" which you need to complain to and which are just intermediaries. In the rest of the world you just sue the seller and don't even need to chase up the manufacturer like here in Australia.

                  It's not a feeling but a fact

Lol just saying something is a fact doesn't make it so… This is how feelings work though, so well done.

In the rest of the world you just sue the seller and don't even need to chase up the manufacturer like here in Australia.

You might want to read this, it's seem like you have no idea how the law works here: https://www.accc.gov.au/business/selling-products-and-servic…

        • It's not the laws it's the bloody enforcement! >.<

I bought the Samsung washer model that caught fire. Didn't know about it at all until it stopped working after about 5 years. I went to order a new washer and googled the model I had and found there was so much news of fires and failures and there was a recall.
Samsung refunded me in full and picked up the machine. Absolutely no hassles. Pretty good service.
Would I buy another Samsung washer?
        Not a chance

  • I have the 12kg samsung dryer and it's great, waiting for a special on 12kg washer

    • 12kg top or front?

      • it's actually a 10kg front dryer.
Washer can be front or top, doesn't matter but hoping for at least 12kg

        • I have the Samsung 12kg front loader and the matching 9kg heat pump dryer. I can't fault either of them.

  • no agitator either, so should be gentle on clothes.

Wait for a Bosch to be on sale at good guys, find one made in Germany, then haggle.
How to get a washing machine that lasts 10 years.

    • +1

      Bought one in 2017.
Feels like a Toyota washing machine.

My last made in china washing machine lasted over 10 years (bought it used) and resold it for a hundy

I’ve got an LG top loader since 2009. Still perfect

      • +2

I also have an LG top loader since 2009 too. It is a beast!

    • +3

Bought one made in Germany. Main board died right after warranty lapsed. Replacement main board costs almost the same as a new same model washing machine. The tech said the board was designed poorly that it'd die again even if I get a new one. I'd rather buy 2-3 Chinese/Turkish washing machines, surely they'd outlast a Bosch. And it won't be so painful on the wallet to replace them if they die.

      • +1

        You can try ACL.

      • AcL so easy

    • got a Fisher & Paykel that's over 10yrs, made in Thailand IIRC.

  • +6

Read the reviews on Samsung washing machines first. Very bad.

    • My 9 month old washer just went kaput today just after showing UE on the screen. What the? Terrible QC. Never ever have I had a washer die on me so prematurely

  • +3

Samsung machines are actually the worst.

Get Fisher and Paykel and thank yourself for it later.

    • +4

My first fisher & paykel lasted 32 years .the one I purchased 4 years ago has broken down 4 times f&p has now refunded me and I got a German made Bosch .

      • +4

Now wait till Bosch breaks down. Neither of them make them like they used to, every manufacturer is cutting costs. They even re-engineer existing models and replace components to cheaper ones. It's a cunning technique - one would buy based on old reviews of an absolutely different product but sold under the same model.

        • +1

          amen, brother.

just find the one with the longest warranty, that tells you the manufacturer/importer reckons it'll last a bit longer.

    • Fisher and Paykel sold out a decade ago, it's just another run of the mill chinesium garbage brand now.
Not sure there are any high quality white goods makers left.

    • 2004 smart drive still going strong

    • Fisher and Paykel & a bunch are now owned by a China brand and re-qualitied.

From experience with 2 different Samsung… don't touch them please.

    1. The first one was a 6.5KG? front loader washer + dryer combo (with bubble wash and hot air wash). The drum spider was made with idk what material that after ~2 years it corroded to bits and broke from the drum (whilst the drum is perfectly intact). Very much planned obsolescence. I bought and replaced that part (~$140) myself and it's chugging along with the exception that the "hot air wash function is dead". If it was out of warranty, that drum spider repair + labor would make more sense to buy a new one.

    2. The second one was a much bigger 11KG? front loader with the "add wash" function. After it ran out of warranty, the main board died. I bought and replaced the main board (~$150) and got it working again. Very soon after that, it would absolutely refuse to complete the spin dry function. It'll start at 11 minutes, spin slowly and ramp up… and drop from the 8 minute mark to 1 min and finished. I tried everything from going through the engineering/self diagnostic menu, calibrating the drum, doing small loads, no loads, large loads, even disconnecting and hanging the knock sensor… nothing would fix it. After just using it to wash for another 4 months or so, it threw up and error and refused to spin. That was the end of it.

From now on, it's German made Bosch or Miele only. I heard Beko was good too but don't have any personal experience.

    • +1

Just saw that some Miele now come with 10yr warranty.

    • For # 1 combined washer/dryer units are pretty terrible regardless of the brand. For #2, you sure it wasn't just the carbon brushes that were burnt out. Mine exhibited the same symptoms, replaced carbon brushes myself for $20-30 and been going fine since (machine would be about 10-12 years old now).

      • I'm 99% sure that it was a faulty board. In the engineering/diagnostic mode… the spin test would ramp it up to max speed with a full load without a care in the world. No issues with the motor at all. But then during the normal cycle it wouldn't get to full speed. Then it died suddenly one day. I was fed up with that shit and tossed it.

    • Can totally vouch for Beko. 6 years and going strong for my heat pump dryer. Washer is 3 years old.

You can get possibly 5% for app order , 10% loyalty discount and $100 for trade -in(if you have for some models)

  • Will the top panel holding the lid in place rust like my last one?
Never buying a samsung product again - not recommended.

  • +1

I have a 7.5kg samsung top loader similar to this one. Still working great after 9 years. I guess it's all hit and miss

  • Enshittification is real.

  • I got a Aeg 8000 series for $900

  • I have used one for a while, the lint on clothes is bad. The lack of an agitator showed me that the clothes just bulk together and slop around even if weighed correctly. The recent choice magazine review found that top loaders are far less able to clean than front loaders.

    Samsung = no thanks

    Love their phones…but appliances nope.

Samsung appliances are like Australian made apartments

Don't buy Samsung washers or fridges.

  • Didn't know there were so many issues with Samsung washers. Have had a samsung top loader and front loader with no issues, and washed clothes much better than speed queen too.

  • I'm just here to say that we've had a Samsung top loader for several years with no issues. Yes it did have the recall issue where a board was changed but it has been ultra reliable and seems to to what it has to do - washing our clothes.

  • This would be fantastic about 20-30 years ago when front loaders weren’t on sale.

  • $599.40 if you have employee discounts

  • Just bought this and got 2 extra 15% off loyalty vouchers from Samsung. Pm me is anyone wants them. Should work for any Washer/Dryer?
