How Has Your Experience with ShopBack Been?

A few people have reported problems with deals not tracking, or for those that have tracked, they don't move from Pending to Confirmed. In a recent BWS deal, there were many members who posted complaints about overdue Approvals from an earlier deal.

I count 21 individual members in that thread whose previous transactions have not been Confirmed. Probably twice as many as that complaining about current delays with tracking, but that is apparently solved.

Some commenters suggest the only way to get action is to contact via social media … this forum or Facebook. Clicking the Enquire button does not seem to get action. That has been my recent experience.

The problem is these reported experiences get buried and unless you go to that deal and scroll through the comments you may not know of the concerns. So I decided to ask what experiences others are having to see how much of a problem it is.

What has been your experience with getting cash backs tracked and then confirmed? For those with multiple transactions, report what you think fits best. If you get a rejection that is reasonably explained, that would be "resolved".

Update midday 3 September:
So far 87 responses with a majority happy with their experience.

Since responses started coming in, the percentage of those with problems has remained fairly constant at around 30%. What is interesting is that of the 28 who reported problems, not a single one has been resolved via their website. The only ones who received resolution were those who contacted the rep directly (just 3 out of 28) and 1 who was rejected after contacting the rep.

A few gave negative feedback because there was no separate choice for No problems. My intention was to bundle those who accepted minor issues as fine together with those who had no problems. I see it as 55 votes saying they are happy with their experience. Nevertheless I take onboard the negatives if I do another poll.

    Kicking this off, I had a transaction that was tracker straight away. With Westpac bonus it was worth about $35. The date it should have been confirmed was 16 July. When it was not confirmed by end of July I used the Report button on Shopback. 5 weeks later and I still have no response of any kind. 2 weeks ago I tried the chat (bot). The bot said it would pass the enquiry on. Heard nothing further.

    Then I finally contacted the rep via message on here. He responded and resolved it to my satisfaction.

    • Yes- I have never had an issue and chose, 'Other'. I have used them for years for all hotel stays and online purchases and have saved a fortune, especially when Agoda, Booking or Expedia go up to 15% off.

      I feel like the first option is not a reasonable option for someone that really rates Shopback- 'Generally OK' still sounds like you have some issues with it.

  • Never had an issue but haven’t used either for ages. Just felt they haven’t had a decent one to make me even bother for ages, the last one was SB with Nord 100% or similar cb last Xmas.

  • Never had an issue and every single transaction of mine has been tracked. There were only a couple here and there that were still pending past the latest date where I had to click "report" and they were fixed without any issue or need for communication.

    Only Amazon with their everchanging and convoluted cash back categories causes issues. Things will track fine but by pending stage, their cashback % has reverted back to 0 which then reflects on Shopback. No problems with any other business and I've withdrawn over $500 since I started using them around 4 years ago with another $40 pending and I really don't remember to activate it a lot of the time.

  • I've used most of the main cashback sites at the moment, and I've had issues with all of them not honouring a transaction at end of day, but for small amounts.

    When I moved to their mobile app though I have since had zero issues for hundreds of transactions at this stage. Over $1000 in cashback at this stage through Shopback.

    No issues. I'm at about $1000 on cash backs through shopback.

    I've messed up with cashback categories once and missed out on a bonus cashback but that's my fault for not reading the terms and conditions.

    I always make sure my ad blocker is off and my cart is empty before visiting through a cashback site.

    After the Heinekin debacle 6 months ago, Never again. I have removed them.

      • Despite what seemed a successful tracking purchase on 3 cases from 1st Choice it didn't track. Despite showing proof, they said no.

        Then there is the hassle of opening a new browser, and putting the amazon item in. This does not occur with cashrewards.

    when it comes to the larger transactions like $10+ or even $5+….. it seems shopback will fight tooth and nail not to give it

    Bought a laptop from Asus and it didn't track. Raised it with Shopback, but they fought hard not to honour it. I only bought the laptop based on the Shopback promotion written on Asus' website. So I felt tricked into buying it. The cashback was around $175. This wasn't my first time using SB either, so I know how it works. I've completely cut ties with SB now.

  • I have generally had pretty good luck. My issues generally revolve around econnex transactions not tracking. Though having said that, all ones I've followed up on have eventually been resolved. Have taken time but have eventually tracked and been paid out, even though I've had to push hard on a few.

    My first transaction tracked with Shopback, but my second didn't (separate day/store - can’t remember the details) and from memory it was a decent amount of cash back $20-30. Reported it and it wasn’t resolved.

    I stopped using Shopback then and now only use Cashrewards or the Qantas Mall.

    • In my opinion they all have issues of some form. I had to argue a claim with Ebay a couple of months ago that did track. They claimed i used a promo code which wasnt approved, even though it was listed in a promo email they sent out I had to go back to Ebay to confirm what promo i had used and argue over several emails with the CB rep, who eventually lodged it but said it would likely be rejected. Low and behold, it was approved a little while later by Ebay. The CB was only like .17 cents but it was the $10 bonus that i was really after and both got approved. Sometimes pays to push hard. I was having good luck with TopCashBack for a while and then i purchased a Private Health insurance policy which wasnt tracked. Ive lodged a claim but there is no easy way to track issues with TCB. They say it can just take up to 3 months. At least with Shopback it gets placed in your pending as a claim so you can keep an eye on it.

    My biggest issue with Shopback is the in-store purchase cashback is a little misleading.

    You only get the shopback discount if you after you make another purchase later on.

    Fortunately a bakery we go to often has shopback, so we can claim the previous purchase. But if you never go back to the same store within 60 days or whatever the T&Cs are, you'll never be able to claim.

    I have had a lot of problems with Shopback not tracking compared to cashrewards.

    Some are added about a week after raising it, others refused with no reason given.

    I have no confidence in shopback tracking without keeping an eye on it, and its pain to keep having to check.

    Additionally, I still get a lot of spam/phishing attempts from my old shopback email address from their data breach in 2019/2020, thankfully I used a unique email address so easy to monitor. But a pain for anyone who used their main address when signing up.

    I have reported purchases from BWS that have tracked properly but haven't been confirmed. These orders were picked up and haven’t been returned/refunded. Never hear anything back from support.

    Well past the due date for these now. I have over $100 of cashback just sitting there overdue as "pending".

      My BWS purchases in June and July were just all approved overnight together with Pizza Hut & BWS Bonus.

  • Have had my only two large Cashback offers rejected both times "by the merchant"

    Both were valued at over $100 each.

    They refuse to fix.

    Somehow, small transactions never have an issue.

  • My lenovo cashback which basically kicked off me using them has not been approved, I have followed up and a rep named Hans said I would hear back by 10-9-2024(bold in his email) and I have contacted them again and still awaiting a response. I also don't really like how stuff just disappears

  • Can someone please guide me on how to get in contact with a rep, I’m waiting on 3 cash backs to be confirmed and they are past the confirmed date. One of which is $400 from a hotel booking. Not happy!!!!

  • The Poll is too concentrated on Not Tracking. Should add: Tracked but Rejected Incorrectly, Tracked with "Calculating", Tracked but I'm up for a game of chance.
