PNY RTX 4080 XLR8 Gaming VERTO EPIC-X RGB Graphics Card $1349 + Delivery ($0 with Account / C&C) + Surcharge @ Centre Com

890

Pretty sure this is an ATL for the non-super? Probably starting to nudge at clearance prices… might be some good competing deals around the place come black friday, stock pending…!

Looks like pretty decent stock is avail for this one. Part of the Father's Day sale - note: expires 11pm 1 Sept.

I'd be all over this if it fit in my ITX case…(maybe I should hot-rod it out the end lol) but I'm sure there're plenty of HODL-ers out there for 50 series…

Would do pretty decent with DLSS for monkeying-around in either 4K or 1440p optimised in BM Wukong (plenty of benchmarks around…)

$50 more for the non-RGB version (!) https://www.centrecom.com.au/pny-geforce-rtx-4080-16gb-oc-xl…

Surcharges: 1.2% Card & PayPal, 2% AmEx.
Free shipping excludes WA, NT & remote areas.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2024.

I'd pay more for no RGB. How cheap will the 4080 go?

    • +5

This is the cheapest I've seen since I got my 4080 for around $1500 since it was close to being discontinued.
It was also around the time the Super variants were coming out, which were way more costly for only about a meager 5-10% boost in performance.

    • +1

I'm sure there's controls to turn off the rgb lights on the thing.

    • +2

Just unplug the RGB cable on the pcb, done!

  • +6

Cheaper than any 7900XTX at the moment too so, that's something.
Depends on your games and if you are keen for a more playable experience with ray tracing.

    • +23

The 7900XTX only makes sense if it's cheaper than the 4080. On average, the 7900XTX and 4080 have similar (if not almost identical) rendering performance, e.g. see https://www.techspot.com/review/2588-amd-radeon-7900-xtx/.

However, the 4080 is just a better GPU in basically every other category - better ray tracing performance, better upscaling, DLSS and frame generation technology, CUDA still preferable for most compute applications, NVENC still a super video encoder…etc. Not to mention that the 4080 will just have better value retention when you want to sell it down the track (as evidenced by how most Nvidia and AMD GPUs have depreciated over time).

I'd say the 7900 XTX needs to be a fair bit cheaper for the 4080 for it to make sense.

      • +4

For a lot of us Linux users, AMD cards are simply better. But wouldnt disagree with most of your points.

        • -1

For a lot of Linux users who don't know how to use linux, sure. NVENC is useable under linux. So is DLSS. So you factually incorrect.

          • +2

@Ademos: No, I'm not factually incorrect. I don't use NVENC features. Virtualization for one big one for me, better progress moving away from X11, rock solid kernel drivers etc

            • @Oxxy: You can passthrough a consumer nvidia card to a VM.

But, okay, sure. So for the subset of users who want to virtualise GPU's to VM's, on linux, but don't want to use the product line for that purpose (ie, Quadro with SR-IOV, or Tesla with vGPU), but apparently don't do encoding, gaming, or use DLSS sure, you might have a point.

        • Hopefully this means NVIDIA is moving in the right direction for Linux users

          • +2

@Dan24: Yeah, I'm keen to see this progress, finally nvidia seem to be getting much better traction with Linux now.

  • +2

Man I'd jump on their deal if I can find a wateblock for it.

  • +2

I need to not give in to the urge to upgrade from a 3080, it's still a perfectly fine GPU. But I could still sell it for a decent chunk of change and it wouldn't be too expensive of an upgrade…

    • +6

      That's what I did with my 3080ti, and got a 4080 super.

      • How much did you sell it for, and what model of 4080s?

        • +3

I think 900ish, and got the INNO3D GEFORCE RTX™ 4080 SUPER X3, it's a slimmer design, runs hotter than most of the other cards, so I've undervolted and bumped memory and its running cooler and better.

    • +11

Meh, still happy to stick around with my standard 3080. 4080 at this price is not good enough. Might as well just wait and pay more for the upcoming 5080.

      • +7

Yeah, the 4000 series is near the end of its life cycle may as well wait for the 5000 series in a couple of months. Only really worth upgrading every second generation.

        • +2

Yeah, I'll wait and see what it's like. Kind of the sensible thing to do. The 3080 will still probably be worth something too, with nVidia's latest run the 5060 will probably be slower and still release at $600.

I'd be highly surprised if the 4080 to 5080 leap is anywhere near the 3080 to 4080, but I'll be kicking myself if it is.

          • +1

@freefall101: If the leap in performance isn't quite there, there's always the option of enjoying the gpu you currently have and waiting the generation after the 5000 series.

        • +2

Won't the 5080 be at least $2k? The 5070 will probably match this for performance/VRAM, and likely somewhere between $1-1.5K. Not much point waiting unless you want better gen on gen RT performance. I doubt the VRAM will be above 16GB for the 5070. This is a very good price for the 4080.

          • +1

@Yuri Lowell: Exactly, people are going to be disappointed when they wait only to realise the 5080 is well over 2k. (4080 was around 2.5K on release) Then your going to have to deal with scalpers and inflated prices and stock issues, so add another 6 months after release date to see sane prices and stock levels. Not to mention 30x series cards will lose more value when 40 series get flooded on the 2nd hand market.

          • @Yuri Lowell: put money on it right now

the 5070 Will just be the 4080 likely

The only card that will make sense next gen is the 5090

            I will even reckon teh 5080 doesn't get GDDR7

        • I keep saying this but I also buy the last generation when the new ones come out. My 6800xt still does okay, especially as I play older games. I bought a 7800x3d this generation instead (from a 3600), so now the bottleneck has changed

      • +1

        What about 9090Ti?

        • Username checks out!

  • This won't work with Optiplex 7050 as the unit is too small to fit this in with an upgraded PSU?

    • +12

don't put this in an oem pc bruz

  • Worth upgrading from a 3070? Or wait til 50xx?

    • +6

May aswell wait now suppose to be out end of the year or start of next. Will probably be some better deals around black friday either

    • +1

Precisely my dilemma. Guess there's no harm in waiting a bit longer as I've held out for so long now.

  • Good price, but wanna 50xx

  • am I missing out much going from 1080 to this or aim for the 4080 Super/ HODL for 50s? (Sorry might be a stupid question as I have been out of the game for ages…)

    • +4

      massive difference from 1080.
      as for hodl
no reason to hold for s as there isnt much difference
what are you gaming on? cant be 4k monitor so waiting for next gen card wont matter unless you are upgrading everything , including the monitor

    • Depends on what you're doing with it.

As someone who mostly games for instance, I don't think you'd be missing out on much. I have a 1070 and still play most games at maxed out settings.

If you're running AI modelling or video editing then it'd be worth it for sure.

      • My 1070 still going strong too. Might grab a deal on 4080 or 4090 when 50XX are released.

    • HODL for 9090 for $990.

  • +2

With BMW kicking even the 4090’s ass in 4K, and 4K oleds starting to become more available, I dare say the 4000 series may become rapidly unworthy of near future titles. Makes me a little sad that a $4k 5090 is the only card to future proof when it comes out.

    • +7

Nuthin is future proof in this game lol! (But get what you mean. The more you spend, the more you ….spend?)

      • +1

I’m on a 8 year cycle, that’s my definition hah

        • +1

So you're currently future proofed on 1080?

          • @Budju: Yup, I can still play halo infinite on low-med 60 fps plus on 1440p. Sorely need another one now, and would consider my next card to play the same settings in 8 years a success, no?

        • I went full circle. Started on 1080, went all the way to 3080ti and then now back to 1080.

          PC gaming never justified itself.

    • thats not true, I game on 6800 xt and have 1440 p OLED UW, it gets me 80-160 fps easy on most games and in reality I have no need to upgrade for few more years and I've had this card since 2020 or so….

    RTX4060 for the budget gamers.

$399 + surcharge (can bank transfer to avoid it) delivered. Cheaper by $30 than most other brands.

  • I was hoping 4080 or 4080 super will drop to 3080 price range ($1k before 4000s) before 5000s coming out?

    • unlikely

  • Ozbarginers, I'm still using an RX580 (8gig) and yes it's starting to show its age.
Yes, I have it running a 34" Odyssey OLED G8 Curved WQHD but I'm playing older (2010) games, it was easier to get a monitor in the last couple of years than a decently priced GPU.
It runs MMOs well at 120fps but drops to 60 whenever there's an explosion in the game.

My question is, do I wait it out for the next generation or grab a bargain like this similar to this or a 7900xtx.

Let me know what you all think

    • +1

What's your CPU? Even at 3440x1440, the 4080 will be bottlenecked by an older CPU. If you're on AMD, you may be able to drop in a 5700X3D or 5800X3D.

      • it's an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core

Would you buy a 7800XT and live with that for the next 3 years, or go big with a 7900XTX and be set for a while longer?

Thank you for the quick reply

        • +1

5800X is great so this 4080 would be a great pairing. 7900 XTX is not even worth considering when the 4080 has matched its price.

    • +2

I would at least wait until Radeon 8xxx series launch or Black Friday sale prices are known, and if you hold out till then, may as well wait to see how 50XX fares in early 2025… Facing the same dilemma albeit setting up a second gaming rig from scratch rather than upgrading a single rig.

      • I'm curious to see how the new gen will perform in comparison.

    • +2

PNY have been around for ages, the quality of their cards are in line with that of other vendors

    • Have you heard of the legendary Kingpin? Well he is going to be partnering with PNY and they will be releasing Kingpin GPUs again very soon.

  • +1

Crazy, I bought a 4080 around this price a year ago. Seems like it's staying the same in price

    • you must have got a good deal. I think this was more in line with 4070 Ti money

    • +2

Sadly they went up over the last 12 months, are just on the way down now

      • +1

Been watching the price of these since launch. They weren't $1300 last year.

        • I think you're right, this is definitely on the lower end I have ever seen. That guy either mis-remembers, or got a crazy good one-off deal

  • +1

Literally about to checkout before they pulled it off

  • Good for the Black Myth: Wukong game

  • Links are dead for both unfortunately, must all be sold out

  • Could anyone confirm that their order has gone through? If yes, did you pay by credit card? Thanks
