Been lurking around ozbargain for a while now so I thought I'd better post something.

Seems like a pretty good deal for a kit like this. Plenty of stock in NSW and QLD last time I checked.

What do you mean? Just pop up to Broome to get one.

      • If Broome has stock, I'm surprised I'm 404ed in Perth.

Anyone know what the quality of Ryobi bits are like?

    • +16

      I had this set.
The bits were not magnetic and fell out of the holder.
The nut drivers are imperial sizes.
      I would not recommend it

      Shockingly bad
They are super soft and damage easily. I was trying to use one in a drill, was having a crap time, threw the whole set in the bin

My tool ecosystem is Ryobi. But I would never buy their bits or accessories I.E. Blades, brush heads, string for line trimmer etc.

Such bad quality. Love their tools, but the rest is crap.

    • Soft metal, clips in case trap the bits, needing a lever to prise them out (especially the longer ones). As is usual with bigs boz sets such as this, I've lost/burred the 3-5 bits I regularly use, the rest are used.

Save the $30 to put towards a smaller better quality set with the bits you actually use…not that I've found such a thing as yet.

I had this set. It drove me nuts.

      • I have the same thing with the steering wheel in my pants

    • I second the other responses. It’s cheap but it won’t last under some real use. I was doing some work in the yard with a light drizzle so they got a bit wet. When I finished up I Closed up the kit didn’t think much of it. Couple of weeks later, I opened it and it was completely covered in rust :(. They also keep falling out of their slots so be careful opening it.

    Just my 2c
I have all Ryobi gear and love the brand, but this kit is pretty poor quality.

    • Most of my stuff is Ryobi too and its perfectly fine for home use. This is probably not too bad just to have something on hand when you need it but for anything you are going to be using regularly just buy bits individually as you need them.

      • ryobi is on par with ozito and other super entry level

Not really a deal though. Seems like the regular price (at least since June).

  • Do they go rusty, like all my other bits, after a while?

    • +2

Most bits, and tools in general, do. Stainless is too soft for contact tools so you generally have high carbon steel instead.

      • +3

Thanks for that explanation. I've always wondered why they always rust, at the end, no matter which brand I buy.

        • +1

I get the best life out of the AEG and Milwaukee gear, very hard wearing. Just give them a coat of WD-40 every now and then and they won't rust up as easily. Keeping them in a sealed tool box with moisture absorber helps too if you have a damp garage.

      • +1

Yep, normally a type of steel with a coating that after a few uses scratches off then starts to rust

  • It's nice for a set of fairly soft bits. Using any of these in an impact driver will shred them out half the time - but there's so many of them you can just throw it and grab another :P
Also what Torch said, a bunch of bits are imperial (the drilling set like this one was 100% imperial, so is only good for drilling holes where you're eyeballing sizes and don't need an accurate sized hole).

Do you need a license for this?

    • +7

Yep, CFMEU class D license required to purchases these. For your safety of course.

      • +1

CMFEU is finished, looks like no licenses needed

  • These are base of base - no torsion part, no magnet either, they will get the job done, but if you are more likely to use a few bits and nothing else you are better off spending the money on a different brand. These wear through very quickly.

  • Do they work with SCA ToolPro impact driver?

    • +1

yes it will, but the bits dont say "impact" so you will risk it breaking easily.

    Buy quality individual bits!

You will regret buying this junk! none magnetic, no locking groove (guarantee it will fall out). the heads strip easily due to soft metal. Highly NOT recommended.!

    • Brand recommendations?

  • For that price better be made in USA

  • so you take it around while driving?

    • Driving screws and nuts.

      • so driving around saying
        "what a tool"
        "nutjob"
        "you are screwed"

  • I have this. I do not recommend. Getting the bits out is a chore and the bits rust easily and damage easily. These upvotes mean nothing. Avoid.

  • The bit is of crappy quality. It could not make a hole in brick. would not buy this.

    • To be fair you want masonry bits for drilling in to brick, this set doesn't appear to have any included

  • +1

Lots of comments about these bits being too soft. What would people recommend instead? Which brands?

I saw mention of bits made from S2 steel to be better, is that true or just marketing?

    • Get whatever you want. All bits will wear out and not grip screws eventually. All will also snap under certain amounts of torque.

There is a reason bits are sold in multi packs and cheaply.

If you really want some good testing, then hop on YouTube and look at the bit or power tool testing channels.

  • full on trash tier set. the bits are way too soft.

buy single pieces, buy impact ones - they will never break if you are just using them to drive screws

  • I had a Ryobi kit and the bits were made out of soft lead
