Do you have lint catcher part?

  • +1

Sucks you don’t deliver to Lakes Entrance

    • If you paid me enough I would

  • +2

Based on the review, it's a bad dryer

as reviewed by people who log on to productreviews and leave reviews.
The first review there said they were happy with it for 4 years then it started to have a problem. 1 star.

It's so hard to get honest and accurate reviews of products these days.

      • +1

Yea i agree with you, obviously not everyone going to agree on a certain product and it depends on the use but reading majority of the reviews the product comes with a lot of issues later on.

Anyway, good luck on Monday morning :)

        • thanks, good luck also!

          Hope it's a great match.

        • the review on OZB is good. you can search the model EHPD80 the same as the model from your product review link. Ther model OP have is a new model

    • Based on the review

Based on Internet reviews, everything is bad. The only people that go online to complain are people who like to complain. The sample set is about as unscientific as you can get.

    • +5

I've had this model for 2 years now and i have been very happy with it. You need to clean the lint out of the fins on the bottom left door every ~6 months but a cheap paint brush and a vacuum makes short work of it.

    • +2

Here's my review - had it for 3.5 years and it's fantastic. No brainer at this price.

  • +1

    That's a very good price.

  • Thanks, been waiting for this price with delivery, car is too small to fit one!

  • +17

Mine died after 2 years and one month, both appliance online and essatto are telling me to kick rocks. The irony is when I bought it the promo was three years warranty, so I though sweet no worries, only for them to get back to me and say only if I registered online.

I have told them the only option left is for me to put in a consumer complaint but they are not budging.
Dryer has a pump fault with an error message- not due to user error.

    • +1

You should neg the deal to warn others

    • +5

Tell them you're claiming warranty under your statutory rights of Australian Consumer Law. 2 years and one month is an abysmal service life for an appliance like this.

      https://www.accc.gov.au/system/files/Warranties%20and%20refu…

      • I have, they just keep repeating the same “ we can put you in contact with our repair agents” and when I ask if this is warranty they tell me no it is not as it is outside the warranty period. I have sent 4/5 emails and they keep saying the same.
I have stressed to them what you have said to no avail.

Appliances online the twice I have contacted them about this say I need to speak with essatto.

When the dryer worked I was happy with it.

        • +2

Just set a date for when you want it sorted, say,a fortnight from now, and email them a demand letter stating what you want. In the letter say you will take it to VCAT or QCAT or equivalent.

          • +3

@misterpotatomato: Yep - I did this, and after a lengthy back-and-forth exchange with an Appliances Online team leader I eventually got my way.

It does work if you stand up for your rights with the retailer - you just have to be determined and resilient enough to withstand the pushback and deflections.

    • +1

I'm sure under Australian consumer law, you are entitled to that 3 year warrant.

      • +3

For this kind of device which would reasonably expect a longer lifespan, they would be.

Trick is to only deal with the retailer and don't accept it if they try to fob you off to the manufacturer, as you actually don't have the same ACL rights with the latter.

      • Under Australian Consumer Law, your rights are to take them to court to obtain compliance with the law, even though you aren't guaranteed to win; courts and Tribunals often charge a fee that is not refunded if you are unsuccessful; they require extra time and effort on the part of the claimant during which you don't have use of the product you paid for; and the court may decide to award a pro-rata measure to an arbitrarily determined estimate of "lifespan" because it is not explicitly stated in law.

It's not surprising many people just buy a replacement as pursuing their rights is actually a further cost on top of the loss of utility of that item.

Retailers and manufacturers know the public is reluctant to go to court and now often push back on ACL because no government organisation can compel adherence to the guarantee except the courts and no government organisation champions consumer rights only advises them of their rights.

The manufacturer warranty is a good indication of how long a product may last: purchase on that basis and put aside money for replacement at the end of that time. You may be lucky and get longer lifespan, but it's sad that luck is now the only real right we have. Built-in obsolescence for profit is still a thing.

        • +1

It costs a minimal amount to file with your local tribunal. Minimal documentation is required, and this is a slam dunk case. Theyll be almost certain to settle when they get the notice because of it.

Oh, and the tribunals are not courts, and they certainly can force compliance.

State tribunals tend to be amazing at being on the little guys side.

    • +1

Stated warranty period is meaningless under ACL. It’s whatever is reasonable given the product and what you paid. A new dryer lasting two years isn’t reasonable, even a cheap one like this.

Copy paste from the ACL guidelines - they don’t have a leg to stand on and they’ll know it.

      • I have seen this multiple times on Ozb where people talk about ACL and ACCC. I thought the same would be a workable solution when 'another online shop' fobbed me after my 2 year and less than one month old Bosch Series 6 dishwasher stopped working. The item was purchased new, I had also purchased 3 years additional warranty from this seller as it went to an investment property.

All I can say is the laws under ACCC are like toothless tiger. After lodging my complaint, they took over two months to respond. In their response they mentioned that:

        • If a business has offered you a warranty, they must honour any promises they have made, or they may be misleading consumers, which is against the law. However, warranties are separate from your consumer guarantees, which apply automatically when a consumer purchases goods or services from businesses in Australia.
        • I should write a letter to them as a complaint (even though I had attached the emails showing the complaint and the back and forth that happened for a week).
        • Submit another complaint to Fair Trading;
        • and if this doesn't work out then go to small claims court.
        • it came with a disclaimer that - 'Please note, the ACCC generally does not comment on our work or what we do with the information we receive from reports. We will only contact you again if we require further information.'

It was at an investment property and I could not wait any longer for this BS. I just went and purchased a new one a couple of days after sending the initial request.

Lesson - My own time and health is too important than worrying about an appliances. Only buy appliances with the expectations (and associated pricing) that these have standard useful life of 2 years and if these last any longer then it's a bonus.

        • +2

They ACCC is not a dispute resolution agency. They only monitor complaints and take action against problematic traders. Your best bet is to engage with your local fair trading agency.

        • +1

All I can say is the laws under ACCC are like toothless tiger

You have a poor understanding on ACL.

The ACCC isn't responsible to helping individuals. It's fair trading and xCAT in your state.

The timelines for responding and providing a remedy are vague. Retailers and manufacturers know this, so unless you're willing to play the long game (buy a replacement and sell the old one once it's fixed), you won't come out ahead.

          • +1

@salmon123: The timeline can be set by you (provided it's in writing and reasonable), and the remedy can actually be the new one you had to buy because they were stalling - just send them the invoice!

In the case of a major fault the choice of new or repair or refund is the customer's to make.

        • +1

Well now you've learnt that lodging a case to ACCC won't help you win your own individual case. That's not to say it's not worth doing: if they get enough reports they will take action to stop it happening in the future.

And that additional warranties are, for the most part, a waste of time and money.

But when your own time is important, firm threats to go to small claims etc are typically enough to win the day; if you can convince them that you're serious about it. If you've had to purchase a new one given time constraints then you can carry on negotiations after by sending them the bill and threatening to take it further if they don't pay up.

          • @FiXXXeR:

            just send them the invoice

I don't have much experience with pursuing that kind of claim, but I suspect the most you'll ever get from the retailer is a refund for the purchase price of your appliance not the cost of whatever you've bought as a replacement.

            Not a terrible outcome.

firm threats to go to small claims etc are typically enough to win the day

This is fine or large business like appliances online, bing lee, etc where having someone represent them at xCAT for a day is going to cost a lot more than whatever they're defending … but keep in mind there's always going to be small traders that ignore xCAT orders and your only option to enforce them is via a local court.

      • Stated warranty period is meaningless under ACL. It’s whatever is reasonable given the product

Exactly, and Choice has done the legwork here for us:

        https://www.choice.com.au/shopping/consumer-rights-and-advic…

        Clothes dryers
        Life expectancy: 10–11 years
Cheaper to replace: 8.5–9 years (heat pump dryer)
        Average repair cost: $250

    • +1

Is your error a FUL message? If so my workaround was to detach the floating sensor cable at the rear (small white cable) and it bypasses the sensor

      • Yeah if I recall it was that error, how did you get to that cable?

        • +1

I took the side and top panels off and unplugged the only small white cable I could see and so far it seems to be working, no more shut off after a few minutes or FUL error. Thank you!

  • +3

Thnks OP, bit the bullet and got one for almost $480 after the $30 referral and $30 cashback from NAB goodies

  • Hi @Appliances Online do u have any washing machine deal at the moment?

  • If you're in Vic you may be able to get a small gov rebate ~$70 through a company called homelab. It's a bit of a process however.

    • +2

How do those vic schemes even work? I’ve seen a few of them now, and they all seem vaguely scammy?

    • +1

yeah I claimed it when I bought the Onix dryer that was posted on here like a month ago

  • I have non digital version of this dryer. It’s excellent.

  • What's the difference between the EHPD80 and the EHPD800-W?

    • +9

      Latter has an extra 0-W

  • +3

I have this dryer, it's cheap, efficient and guess what, it dries clothes! Has a water outlet tube you can run into your sink or outlet, you just gotta clean the lint filter every few months. Has all the usual features, delayed start etc

This is also a lot lighter than some of the others, but recommend paying for "install" just to save you the dragging and lifting (it's over 40kg).

  • I've had my EHPD7 for almost 3 years now. Good unit. Only time I contacted their service, thinking I had a warranty claim, they were friendly and efficient, and it turned out it was a user error.

Not sure what's different with this model.

  • +1

Seems they still have the bonus warranty if you register your unit after purchase.

    • Doesn’t look like the EHPD800-W is in the list of products. Only the EHPD80.

  • My laundry is too small will this be ok to put in my garage or outside the laundry? (Covered backyard)

    • I do have the same question. Can we put this in the garage?

      • +2

Are you parking your car in the laundry

        • My laundry space is small too

    • If you guys have front loader, you can stack on top of the washing machine and use a rubber mat

    • Mine is in the garage. No problem.

  • how does this dryer do with sheets and towels?

    • towels are not fully dried.

      • Not correct, they dry, yet they seem damp for 5 mins when you take them out. Hard to explain but it's a thing common on condenser dryers.

  • Shout out to the amazing customer service and your very friendly delivery drivers!

  • do I need to have exhaust fan in laundry with this dryer as my previous dryer makes laundry muggy so I had to left my outside door open which was not always ideal

    • No. Heat pump collects the water or drains it into a drain.

  • I bought this brand early 2021, I would say its age is less then 4 years.
Always clean up the lint and empty the tank before use it.
Last week I noticed after 5min, it stopped working with the error message "Tank is full" (but the tank was empty). Obviously its sensor was faulty.
the solution was just to unplug the sensor, and then it's functioning.
But, due to risk of the tank being full I don't use the dryer over night. Also checking the dryer few times when it is working.
I keep using it until it dies and never buy it again.

I wouldn't buy anything from Appliances Online. I had a major problem with an appliance I bought from them, and they refused to take it back. They fobbed me off saying it was the manufacturer's problem, even though the retailer is obliged by law to take responsibility. Hopefully the Department of Fair Trading will force them to take it back.

    • Similar experience as Appliances Online trades under various names. Dishwasher stopped after 2 years and less than one month. Had bought additional 3 years warranty. They sent me to chase Bosch and the warranty provider and kept getting bounced around. I detailed my complaint process and outcomes in response to d3ft above.

      • Sorry to hear that. If you're willing to try a different tack, you can rightly claim that Appliances Online acted fraudulently, by taking your money for the additional warranty and never fulfilling their contractual obligations. Read this:
        https://www.armstronglegal.com.au/criminal-law/nsw/offences/…

Fraud is both criminal and civil. I would go to the police and say that Appliances Online have acted fraudulently. They'll probably want to turn you away, but if you insist, and show them the law, you might get somewhere.

    • Department of Fair Trading can't force them to do anything: their role now is only to advise you of your rights, which can only be pursued through court in the face of resistance.

    • Msy got fined millions for this. They gon learn. Eventually.

  • Got one of these. When it works it’s great, but it died just before warranty ran out, they repaired it, and I think it has now died again a year or two later. Heat pump driers are great but suggest it’s better to spend the extra and buy a Miele or a Bosch.

  • had unit for about 3.5 years and probably done close to 1000 loads. working perfectly - just regularly clean all 3 filters.

  • +1

about to take appliances online through to consumer affairs so appropriately down voting, buy through a reputable retailer. They do not honor ACL.

  • Any washing machine deals?

  • Buy Beko Heat Pump dryer. Worth every cent. Going strong since 2018.

  • +2

Price is now $622 in SA, although the rebate via YESS is $376. It would be $488 on Appliances Online eBay store using a voucher code but it won't ship to my SA address.

    • +1

$622 in VIC and no rebate

  • Currently having issues with my dryer EHPD80. Purchased 1.5 years ago from an appliances online eBay deal off here. The drum has stopped spinning and my clothes aren’t drying. It’s a pain in the ass with three kids in this Melbourne weather. I’d avoid esatto.
