Shame the batteries aren't 5.0Ah. I would have paid extra and bought it.

    • Still good for not heavy duty use. I am curently using makita hedge trimmer and line trimmer skins with B&D 2.0 batteries (plus makita adaptor), still OK. So factory batteries are lot better than B&D ones.

      • I meant for the freebies as well. I've been eyeing the inflator, and I wouldn't mind the smaller blower as I already own the larger blower that takes 2 batteries and it can be a bit too much sometimes.

Agree. With makita the 3ah, 5ah and 6ah are all the same size & weight. I think its pointless to buy 3ah batteries given this. Just pay the extra.

  • Man, and I thought Ryobi batteries were a ripoff..

Makita is basically trade quality and above Ryobi.

Makita 18v batteries are very overpriced for what they are. They haven't updated them in years and they are now way behind what Dewalt, Milwaukee, Bosch, etc offer performance-wise. Even Ryobi offers higher output 21700 cell batteries.

I'd agree their tools are trade quality, but there is nothing special about their batteries to warrant the cost.

        • Makita prioritize reliability and lifespan as well as power. If you're after big spec numbers on the box then go for the names you mentioned. When those brands overheat, go into protection mode, need to be replaced; Makita will just keep going.

If you appreciate Makita's dependablity and require even more grunt then move to Makita's 40v range.

          • @Villainous: I've used Dewalt cordless tools for around 20 years and have never had any issues with reliability. I'd say they are pretty equal in that regard. I have a couple of Bosch tools that have been pretty dependable as well.

I used to have a couple of Ryobi batteries and they didn't last more than a year before refusing to charge. I've had a few Milwaukee batteries and tools fail also. Ergonomics are shit as well compared to Makita and Dewalt.

I'd love to get some of the XGT tools (mostly the recip saw), but they are too pricey and it's annoying that the batteries don't work with the 18v tools, unlike Dewalt and Hikoki's higher voltage batteries. You can't even use the same charger without buying an adapter, which is ridiculous.

I have 3 Ryobi batteries that died within ~2 years each. I am also still using my 9 year-old Makita 3Ah battery. For some reason Ryobi batteries are even worse than Ozito (which I also have a few).

  • if you don't want freebies, the charger is $129 at Amazon AU

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Makita-DC18RD-Lithium-Ion-Optimum-…

    and ~$100 per 3.0Ah battery

When I clicked through it came up as one left priced at $55…never checked out faster in my life and it jumped back up to $129 again straight after.

  • No interest in batteries, blower or charger as more than covered there, but happy to arrange with someone to split for the inflator at a reasonable price.

  • Stanley's problem is not widely used and resell is difficult. I got combo last Christmas for $372 and finally changed to Ryobi, so I sell Stanley separately, spent 7 months to sold all of them.

PSA (kinda related)… I've recently seen on ebay a generic makita battery that is chargable by BOTH a makita charger OR a 65w USB-C fast charger (single battery). If you ask me this is a game changer. It means one level of vendor lock-in has been removed. I hope to see more of this.

    • ooo - the USB-C charge port also allows it to charge other devices, like a power bank ?

      • Not sure about that. I can only confirm that the battery itself can be charged by 65w usb-c (or makita charger).
