At first I thought this was a hifi speaker.

    • +21

I thought it was a new CBA black card

I'm surprised CBA hasn't sued HP for copying the logo

      • +1

Omen has been around for quite a while as a brand. As unispired as it is, I doubt CBA would have anything to stand on.

      • +1

I doubt why HP isn't suing CBA

        • +1

Jokes on them, Dell and NAB are going to sue them both.

    • I thought it was a smart doorbell or the like

    • +1

I thought it was a portable induction cooker

    • I thought, when did they start measuring computers in litres?

      • when I look at cases the first thing I want to know is volume

  • +3

crazy specs but the case and build isnt much to look at.

    • +24

      Obligtory intel gen13/14 post

      https://www.theverge.com/2024/7/26/24206529/intel-13th-14th-…

Otherwise decent spec as the GPU is sub 3k

      • Thanks for this. Was about to pull the trigger.

      • +2

Any idea if that was just for a specific batch which should be a non issue for new chips going forward?

      • +1

Seems like a relative non-issue though.

Buy the product. If it fails just get a replacement as it's a known issue. Otherwise an update should fix it based on the post.

        • -1

          update is already out

          • +14

@botchie: Yes, but the 'update' is to effectively limit the power profiles the motherboard can deliver. If you ever need this CPU to draw the power rated on the box, then it will be best to avoid the impacted SKUs. Most will never need that, and the updated motherboard power limits will protect most users, but it is a measurable impact on the high end performance.

            • +3

@ColPow11: Intel has lost it plot some years back, was okay, until AMD came out with Ryzen (from the almost dead AMD days).

              • +1

                @[Deactivated]: I disagree.
Intel was winning by default before Ryzen but I’d argue they were worse then as they were content with stagnation.
Once Ryzen came into play, they actually had to start trying. Performance wise they’ve been doing ok but are much less efficient than AMD.
The faulty 13/14th gen chips are the first major blunder and their response is an even a bigger one.

            • @ColPow11: A lot has changed in the 4 months since that video

        • +6

Pfft. Instability is a huge PITA to prove and get warranty on. No bloody way is it worth your time having to deal with that

        • I am not a fan of replacing my CPU regularly /using a high-end CPU with limited performance.

        • because a warranty claim is always 100% easy right?

      • What do I go to then from my 11 gen ?

        • If this is a serious question, and you're buying right now, I would go for a full AM5 AMD platform shift. You need new RAM regardless of which CPU manufacturer you go with, which means a new MOBO - might as well switch to the Ryzen 5 7600, or more if your budget will go that far. Check this out for a reasonable explanation and pathway forward.

          • @ColPow11: Thank you. I just put in a 4070 Ti Super last week and upped my RAM today so will take some time to buy right.

      • Doesn't this affect the K series CPUs, not F (like this deal)?

        • +1

Affects all their CPUs just more so on the unlocked K SKUs, the new microcode and power profiles should limit the degradation but no one can 100% say to what extent.

A lot of comments above are trying to shed some light on this but I noticed they aren't up to date just check out some YT and articles to understand where things are with Intel before purchasing.

I'd say in most cases things will be ok but there's always a chance all be it very small that you may end up with one that degrades quicker than it should even with the changes.

    • +4

Seems like it doesn't have enough cooling for a 4090, especially in Australian summer (or even today in winter, it's bloody hot in Qld).

  • +8

Gfx and cpu are $3.5k now if you were to buy from a pc shop

    • +10

Thought Intel is paying people to take the CPU? Haha

  • +16

    Intel Gen 14?No, thanks

    • why is that? Whats wrong with 14th gen cpu?

      • +5

Where have you been for the last year? 13th and 14th gen CPUs have developed significant instability issues. Just do search via Google. Intel is no longer where they used to be despite their marketing.

      • +4

The 13th and 14th generation CPUs seem like overclocked versions of the 12th generation.

This makes them unstable, especially when a software or game is draining all the power from your CPU (e.g., UE5 engine-made games).

They are now trying to make these CPUs less powerful to improve stability, but it doesn’t make sense to spend money on the best only to get something less powerful.

AND if your CPU is already acting up, the patch won’t fix it – you’ll have to replace it. That’s why I believe it’s clearly an overclocked version of the 12th gen.

  • -1

Anyone tested if it's able to fit 40L of liquids? lol

    • +7

      That's how volume works yes

    • +13

Managed to fit 38L of baked beans in mine. Hopefully someone could get the full 40

      • +14

Spin the fans up to blend the beans. You'll fit more in.

  • +13

Weird life choice. Need a new serious gaming computer, I'll buy it from… HP!

    • +2

Same as the alienware deals during covid. I still have mine with customised cooling and kicking strong.

  • +5

    good Omen

  • +3

If you could swap out the CPU for another I would consider getting this.

  • +2

    HP bad

  • +2

Does HP use better internal parts compare to Alienware desktops?

    • +2

Same same different. But i find HP more upgrade friendly after trying to get matching ram stick for the r10 ryzen.

    • +4

No proprietary mobo is a damn good start. It's a Z series chipset but still of low quality but that at least means it is easy to swap out.

WD Black for the SSD ain't bad.

1200w gold PSU is from Cooler Master so top tier but likely not garbage either.

So yes, I would say significantly better than Alienware.

      • +2

MB should be proprietary, but the only connector that won't work with off the shelf parts should be the connection to the daughterboard, which controls all the RGB.

PSU is equivalent to the CM V line (except not modular), not trash like CM MWE, with custom cable lengths specific for this case.

Main thing that kills this deal is the CPU being Intel, not AMD.

        • It's not proprietary, the motherboard just seems to be standard microATX?

          • @ldd-mn: What do you think makes a motherboard proprietary? just size? Then Alienware aren't proprietary either. Alienware are considered proprietary primarily due to the PSU connector being 6 pin instead of 24 pin. HP motherboard are also proprietary due to the RGB daughterboard connector. If you don't want RGB, then it can be used without the daughterboard.

            • @jkim: Yes, normally it's the size. Big difference between not being able to use your own PSU/motherboard with the Dell system and not being able to use RGB on the HP system. The Dell board is proprietary, both the strange size and the power connectors means you couldn't reuse or replace the motherboard even if you wanted to.

  • Tell him he's dreaming!

  • Will the CPU throttle the GPU performance when gaming?

    • +2

depends on the game and res, possibly at lower resolution but you wouldnt buy this for 1080p

  • +7

I’ve got one of these. No throttling or thermal issues on mine, and the case components that look white in the pics are all RGB lit.

    • Does it come with air cooler or aio for 14700k? it thought the CPU runs hot.

  • +6
  • +2

Seems possible that price of 4090 would drop significantly with 5090 just around the corner?

    • +3

Doubt it… the 5090 would just cost more than the outgoing 4090 therefore price of 4090 will likely be unaffected

  • +2

Can it play the new monkey game?

    • +3

You need the 5090. Hold on.

    • +1

In their Steam discussion, the three pinned posts are all about UE5-based games having issues with Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs.

So, I wouldn’t recommend these CPUs if you want to play the monkey game or other UE5 games.

    • +1

It will play Secret of Monkey Island 1 & 2.

  • +4

I have this, bought 6 months ago for $4,000. Pretty good

    • Does it have a HDMI port? The listing only says 1 DisplayPort weirdly.

      • Yes 3 display 1 hdmi

        • Perfect, thanks!

        • I like the username. Wish he was more active!

Just to make sure, you got the same SKU/Version? HPs page says one displayport no hdmi, which had me really confused too.

    • How is the SDD performance?

    • Does it come with air cooler or aio for 14700k?

  • what brand is the 4090?

  • I'm actually so tempted… What's the warranty on these like?

  • +1

How does this compare to the other PC builds that get posted on OZBargain?

  • +2

I mean the gpu itself is around the 2.8-3k mark so it seems like a bargin

    • +1

It's an oem model so worth slightly less than a brand name one

  • Am i missing something - where does it list the HDD / SSD space?

    • +2

The HP website includes it (the SKUs on the eBay page and HP site match)

1 TB HDD storage; 2 TB SSD storage

      • danke… tempting indeed

  • +1

    Just got one, thank you

  • +1

    What's the warranty on these?

    • +1

1 year (1/1/0) limited warranty includes 1 year of parts and labor. No on-site repair.

Obviously you can argue 2 years under ACL.

  • My Alienware R7 is getting pretty old, and sadly I no longer work at Dell so can't get the employee discount.

How do these go for heat/noise being a micro ATX ?

  • +1

Full rig for nearly the price of a 4090? Not bad… Take the GPU and sell the rest to make the 4090 even cheaper…

    • +4

You may have some trouble selling Intel 14th gen based cpus and mb… Most will stay away from them just in case they are having stability issues.

  • A lot of votes, but a very few sales

  • +2

Quickly put together roughly the parts in PCPP to see the value, you're getting around $1k off which is not too shabby.

The Intel 14th gen CPU kills the deal.

  • Is there an AMD version of this?

  • +1

I guess the only thing I would be worried about is the Motherboard VRM and performance profile. If this rig can make full use of the 14700F and 4090 then it's an absolute bargain. That and the dodgy reputation of Intel's 13/14th gen series.

  • +1

Just pulled the trigger on this deal, thanks for posting it.

  • +1

    Very tempted for this..
    - intel risk
    - 50 series release soon
    - HP whoman?
$1k off price picker is nice but how accurate is this 4090 price so close to new launch?
Cant imagine they're moving that much now and seems a price drop at this time of launch cycle would come soon..
Previous years flagship prices nearing new launch a reliable indicator this time round?

    • +1

Well the 4090 price is inflated as hell in itself so…
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15655088/redir
After checking some TF builld I think the can manage to do it around sub $600-$700 pcpp price. But I'm no expert I'm just into the whole gaming stuff recently haha :)

      • +2

        Very true.
About 27%~ extra performance (4k average fps) above 4080 for an extra $780 - 45%~(from the linked 4080 build here.
Is the extra cost worth it + 8GB of vram, good for local AI… hmm

  • +1

Tempted to get this and take out the 4090 and wack it in my 4080/Ryzen 7 7800X3D rig, then slot the 4080 into the HP for the missus.

  • unable to make the code work on my ebay :./

    • +1

Nm, got it to work. was using my international Ebay.
