I looked at these a few years ago and ended up getting a roccbox (currently on sale for $639). I'd recommend that option if you want to go on the pizza journey, unless you are restricted to an indoor appliance.

+1. I've had my Roccbox for 6 years and made countless pizzas in it. It still looks almost brand new. I mean the stone is discoloured, but the overall quality is outstanding. I imagine it will outlast me.

  • Why can't you make pizzas in a normal oven? (ELIF)

    • +1

You can, they're just not quite as good made at 250° compared with a pizza oven at 400°

    • A normal oven generally won't get hot enough. You typically want temperatures between 400 and 500 degrees to make a good pizza.

    • Normal ovens top out at 250 deg C. This specialty oven goes to 400 deg C, which is much closer to wood-fired pizza ovens. You will get restaurant-style pizzas, which is the entire purpose of this oven (provided you have the correct recipe and technique).

      • Interesting. Why don't they make normal ovens that go up to 400?

        • Pyrolytic ovens go to 400 to 500C but their purpose is to self clean by turning all food particles into ash. It has a security locking mechanism so opening the door during this cycle is not meant to happen.

I think most regular ovens go to 250c because it is enough for basic pizza and woodfire type pizza is a bit more niche so it's not worth it for the manufacturer to add the tech and add costs unnecessarily.

A Kamado Joe BBQ makes great pizzas.

    • It does lots of things well, but unless you're planning to make a lot of pizzas/have time it's going to take quite a long time to get everything going.

@TEER3X - You can’t make a lot of pizzas quickly with this overpriced Breville pizza oven that’s inferior to a Kamado Joe either, it’s one at a time just the same.

Reaching 400-500 degrees C takes time not matter what you use. My Kamado Joe doesn’t take “quite a long time to get going”… As long as you maintain it after use, all you need to do is quickly pour in some fresh charcoal, put in about 4 firelighters and light them up, and it takes about 15-20 minutes to reach 200c (a little bit longer maybe an extra 5 minutes if you’re using old charcoal that’s been used before), once the Kamado Joe reaches that temperature it just skyrockets to 400-500c in a matter of minutes with the top and bottom vents fully opened. During the initial 15-20 minutes that it takes to heat up to 200c you could be doing something else, such as preparing the food, or some other non related duty around the home, or do what I often do pour a whiskey/whisky and just relax.

    • Technically you want 480º for naan but this should get close.

  • I grabbed the aldi knock off of this for ~$220 a few months ago and it's been great, use it more than my Arosto.

    • Out of curiosity, how long does it take to bake a pizza in the Aldi oven? I saw it a few months ago and thought it looked pretty good for the price.

The "wood oven pizza" preset is for 5 mins, and I feel that's pretty spot on. Faster to heat up than pretty much any other oven I've used so it's really handy if you're just making 1-2 pizzas.

  • Seen a vid about someone making pizzas using something like this in NYC. They had limited space but just went with it https://youtu.be/6E0ilkXyamk?si=Fsf_x9M0KFrfAMq_

    • i wonder if the same oven kept running for the duration of her business
