You can earn Velocity points/SC on Hainan as well.

I flew Melbourne to Beijing last year via Haikou and received ~9000 points + 120 SC on a $460 fare.

Not sure if thats good value, but seems better than the paltry earn on domestic economy fares.

    Nah I tried calling Hainan to have them add my VFF number to the booking and they weren't able to do it.
    
    I ended up claiming the points manually through the Velocity "claim missing points" form.
    I kept my boarding passes handy for the required information as you can only submit the claim 14 days after you have flown.
    
    Ended up getting 30 SC per sector (including China domestic sectors) as well as ~2200 points Melbourne-Haikou, ~1800 Haikou-Beijing, and vice versa the other way.

I went to the airlines website but it appears to redirect to a rewards program in Chinglish. Cannot find any section to book flights.
