  • I wonder if the "AI" is still there, and got translated to english?

  • +1

Anyone know what the difference between this and the Mi band 8?

    • +1

      Very little

    • +22

      1

    • +2

      Bigger battery.

190 mAH in the 8 vs 233 mAH in the 9. Should see about a day or two extra battery life (normal usage).

    • -2

They add google fit synching a few months later. So if you want that then you wouldn't find it on the latest model.

    • -3

This one goes up to nine. You know when you get to 8 and you just need the extra bit, that push over the edge…

    • +2

Noone's mentioned the brightness bump yet - goes up to 1200nits.

  • +3

Damn it's on Mi band 9 now?

I miss the old app with custom watchfaces…

    • +1

They don't have custom watch faces?!

      • +1

        nope

has to do janky way via some third-party something to get it to work i think

        • I have model 4 somewhere, would this still do the watcherfaces?

          • +1

@Misha Bakunin: yeah but like i said its not officially supported anymore

The 'zepp life app' one day removed it from the official app so u have to use an older apk or do that finicky method

    • +6

Interestingly my Xiaomi band 4 still working…. It tells you new stuff is not always better. The quality is not there any more

  • Pity the orange strap version isn't in the options, it looks nice https://www.mi.com/global/product/xiaomi-smart-band-9/

    • It's likely there are aftermarket bands available on Ali for cheapish

  • Does it still show heart rate of sausages?

    • Except for bunnos

  • +9

We've had FOUR mi Band 8s die within 12 months of our purchasing them - all dead screens. Hopefully the 9 is more reliable!

    • I've got two in my household for ~1yr now, no problem with neither, screens are fine, syncs fine, and the battery is still strong. You must be very unlucky…

      • +1

My Mi8 died after 8 months. Dead screen.

        • I can go one better…mine fell apart! Also they are not waterproof as claimed…went into a pool and it died…after a few months drying out it started again but then a few weeks later it fell apart…never buy a watch from them again.

          • +1

@Ben Kenobi: from experience, i wear it on shower and swimming, and this lead to the main unit to come off from the original rubberystrap.
so, i will avoid it using on shower and swimming now.

My miband was in my pant pocket when it is in washing machine and dryer once, no problem at all, but will avoid that in future.

My miband alsohas a crack screen, dunno when it happened, but definitely happened BEFORE the washing machine incident.

Until today, still going strong, i think my version is miband5

want to upgrade, but not so sure, as other than checking time/alarm/phone notification/phone rining/text mesage, i can't find any useful on the rest of the function on the unit for myself.

            • @langitbiru: i have my mi band 4 for years wear it when shower swimming and even in steam room no issue until now .I must be the lucky Guy 😜

            • @langitbiru: Yep, they are Sh!t quality.

    • Same, they are only water sealed via so cheap glue. Water gets in stuff's up everything. First the touch screen would go, then the display itself.

Hoping the 9 is better as I have lots of straps for it that I never got to use on the 8

    • +1

My mi Band 8 died 2 weeks ago, have a life of 10 months. I can't recharge it after the last upgrading. I used it to record swimming laps and time.It worked in pool about 20 hours plus the daily shower. Now I have band 9 for a week. A little bit heavier, weaker vibration, brighter screen, faster sync. Charger cable, band are same as 8.

      • +1

Got a mi band 8 earlier this year (local stock), lasted just under 1 month, then display just went blank, unable to charge, pretty much dead, watch have never touched water at all. After few weeks after that I just happened to charge it and the display lighted up, (red battery indicator blinks) I charged it to full then did a factory reset and everything was ok for that few hours, next morning its dead again. : (
What I read online many people having the same issues, so basically depends on your luck if you get a good one or bad one

  • Never had one of these before. How do they go with syncing with iPhones into the Health app, and supporting iOS Native features (Push etc.)?

    • +1

      Health syncing works fine.

Notifications work. You just need to setup a task to turn Bluetooth off then on every morning in the Apple Shortcuts app otherwise it loses connection over night. Mines set to run when I turn DnD off, others set it based on a time.

  • +2

Does anyone know if this supports NFC?

    • -1

      probably not

    • It apparently does, but I've only seen them talk about cars or something with it.

    • Yes but no - it's only useful in china.
edit correction only Ceramic Chinese one had nfc, but again it was useless.

I don't see any nfc coming to be useful in a long while (ie to support nfc payments)

      • The ceramic one is an extra hundred yuan.

    • No. some version have the function, but the app does not support in AU.

    • Honestly it's a $50 Chinese device.

I wouldn't trust my banking with it. Just doesn't feel right.

  • +1

Moving from a 5 to a 7 it's been nothing but bugs and bad battery… Contemplating moving to another band… I'd rather just the old super basic bands they use to make to these newer ones.

    • +1

i guess the newer ones suck.

the step counter is different on my mi band 4 vs 6

    • +2

The old good Xiaomi band was like 4 and 5. After that they put in too much gimmicky stuff and drains battery. Stay away

      • Yep 100% agree

  • Can I set the date day/month on this instead of month/day? couldnt do it on the mi band 8

    • Some watch faces may allow this, they did via third party on my Mi Band 4 and 6. My current Mi Band 8 has very few faces via first and third party (that I find useful) so I'm stuck with US dating.

      • Yep its the only option. They need to fix this

  • +3

Do yourself a favour and look at the HUAWEI Band 9 - regularly AUD$60-65 on AliExpress, with much more accurate sensors and better functionality.

    • I heard version 7+ above battery is no good any more

Still using 6 here still a beast on battery lasts a week

  • Q: Is this suitable for a 10 year old kid, without a phone? (Obviously expect functionality to be limited, but does it still do the basics until they are actually old enough to get online…)

    • Yes, my 8 year old loves the older version. Perfect for kids. It syncs to my phone for updating time. At this price I am thinking of getting a spare. Also there is an elastic band that's available instead of plastic one.

    • Only problem is it doesn't actually sync to a tablet as the app only works for phones. So you'll probably need to sync it to your own or spare phone and turn off the notifications

    • I'm not sure primary school consider this as smart watch. Those have been banned

    • +2

My 9 year old loves his miband8. Syncs to his ipad just fine.

  • How is it compare to Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 ?

  • -2

Not sure if this is the global version. Unlikely when it's in sale

Also the fact that it will never work with NFC here it's a moot point

    • The global version is already released

      Xiaomi website

    • +1

The global version does not have NFC.

      • +1

Yes but usually the local version has NFC and none of the apps here will support it

  • Well done OP. This product is the highest selling product in Australia out of the whole sale. It ranks 253 globally.

    • Thank you!

  • Hi all, has anyone received their Mi Band yet? Tracking says it's been handed to the airline a week ago. Not a big aliexpress user so just thought I'd ask if this is normal.

    • +1

Latest update for mine is: "Leaving from departure country region" on August 29

      • +1

        Update: mine arrived this afternoon

        • Good to hear mate, did the tracking eventually update or did it just rock up?

    • I got mine on Monday though it took the longest to arrive out of all the items I bought during the sale.

    • Did you get it yet?

      • I got mine last week

      • Nothing for me yet unfortunately.

        • +1

Same here but the tracking updated yesterday, however there was delay in tracking, Custom clearance update of 5th Sep only showed up yesterday! Hope it comes by the end of this week!

          • @mysticvr46: Just have had the same happen, 'with local courier' on the 6th, here's hoping it comes soon haha.

            • +1

@IslandBreeze: I got the tracking update message from "Courier Please", it says estimated delivery today, can't wait any longer!

            • @IslandBreeze: The tracking status for mine has been "Received by local delivery company" since 18th September but Australia Post has been "pending" since the tracking number was given.

70mai-Goldway Store leaves messages unread for days…

              Got yours yet?

              • @us3rnam3tak3n: Hey mate yeah I did. Mine was "Received by local delivery company" for 6/7 days and then it rocked up, no tracking change until the day after to 'Delivered'. I reckon yours will rock up soon hopefully.

                • @IslandBreeze: Glad to hear it. I was starting to wonder whether the tracking system is cooked or the seller is crooked.

                • @IslandBreeze:

"Received by local delivery company" for 6/7 days and then it rocked up, no tracking change

Yep, turned out it was in my parcel locker under a separate tracking number since yesterday which is 6 days after "Received by local delivery company". The tracking number given by Aliexpress still says "pending" on Auspost.

  • Does the new band works with Zepp life app?

    • Nah mate mi fitness, bit annoyed as I have a mi body comp scale from a few years back which doesn't connect to it.
