$750 off Pixel 9 or 9 Pro XL on 1/2/3-Year Phone Plan from 50GB $62/M (Min. Device Cost Pixel 9 $599, 9 Pro XL $1099) @ Telstra

Telstra is doing a $750 off plan for Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL on a repayment plan. If you want to pay the device off over 12 months (since Optus doesn't do the deal for some reason) you can do it on Telstra to get the Pixel 9 at essentially $600 over 12 months.

But you need to add a mobile service as well.

    • I think you can cancel/port out, I did this when buying an iPhone 15 Pro Max and keep the repayment on the phone, but not sure if this is because I partially paid points on Telstra Plus.

Edit: looks like their terms have changed where this is probably no longer applicable which sucks.

Pixels get aggressively discounted after a while it's probably more worth it to wait for a sale and slap on a yearly prepaid SIM

    • +2

They are discounted heavily from pre-order, best time to get one! But yes, who buys phones on a 24 month contract anymore, it's not the 90s. Boost 365d Sims go great.

      • Most people do.

        • -1

          Great lol

        • The good thing with the pixels after all the discounts etc they are only about 500$, that turning into a fair bit more these days though, trying to match apple and flagship phones.

    • Yeah, best deals in 6-9 months with some deals appearing around Black Friday. There's honestly not much difference between each Pixel release.

      • +1

Have a search for the pixel 8 JB deals on here, was only about $100 cheaper 9 months later, and doesn't take into account the value from gift vouchers. Still put in a 28d price protection claim.

        • +4

I agree, I have been using this "wait it will get cheaper" strategy for the last 3 Pixel releases and the preorder deals have always been the best value (particularly when considering the capped early cancellation fee). Finally realised this so bought a Pixel 9 Pro XL in this round for a net of around $1000 (when you consider the $350 gift card from JB HiFi - Around $1350 without deducting that) for a 512GB model. I can't see this phone getting below that for several years. Even if it does, having the phone for those years vs. not having the phone for those years has value.

    • I'm indeed waiting for this!

  • +1

    $62 x 12 months is their cheapest plan = $744
I can't see a bargain in this price. If there was a way to step around this somehow, you'd have a great deal

    • There is an option to Keep your current plan if you have one.

      • That is good, what's the best/cheapest way for someone who doesn't?

  • $1098.96 for 9 Pro XL

$104.08x12=$1,248.96, how do you get the price of $1098.96?

  • +1

For mobile plan customers prices will increase from 27 August 2024, increasing your monthly and minimum costs. Mobile Basic increases by $3/mth, Mobile Essential by $3/mth, Mobile Premium by $4/mth, Mobile Bundle by $2/mth. Plan price may change.

They’re advertising a plan with an upcoming built-in upcoming increase?

    • +1

Common now, they will show it in the vertical table with other attributes of the plan - have been seeing this with their NBN plans for a while.

    • +1

Genuinely hate this change since they announced yearly price increases a few years back. Ported out immediately after it was announced.

  • When trying to use my existing 365 day boost plan, it asks to "You can either add a new plan or use one of your current plans."

I wish there was a way to get around this

  • Harvey Norman had a deal for $149 upfront for Pixel 9 Pro XL 128gb ($299 for 256gb) if you sign up to a $69 Optus plan for 24 months. Yes it is Optus but the phone is virtually free. Total cost over 24 months is $1656 for 128gb

  • +5

Remember when you would sign a contract with a telco on 24 month plan, $69pm and the flagship phone was included… no extra cost or handset repayment.

    • +2

Pixel 2 xl from 2018 has entered the chat

      • +1

Think that was actually a $59 plan, with a Google nest too

    • Telco's hate this 1 trick!

  • Wow, thats great deal, right ?

  • What happens if you continue repayment for phone over 12 months, but stopped the actual phone/data plan in the middle ?

    • I would assume you would be cancelling to stop it. So there would be a large fee involved.

    • You will have to pay ($750÷12+$104)x Remaining months for Pro XL..

    • You need to be on a plan to have phone repayments, if you don't have a plan you have to pay the phone off.

      • Thanks, then it's not a good deal

      • But pay the phone off with discount price right?

  • Wow! Is $62 per month really the entry point plan nowadays…. Wow, I have been logging under a rock.

  • Unfortunately couldn't get this on my current plan, have to change to a new plan so it doesn't make it worthwhile anymore.

I'm hanging on to my 45pm 50gb plan for as long as I can

  • +2

It's not "essentially $600 over 12 months" when you also have to pay $62 a month for a mobile plan.
    It's $744 for the mobile plan + $600 = $1344
Cheaper to wait for heavy discounting and stick with a far cheaper pre paid plan.
I've not paid more than $10 to $20 a month for a prepaid plan in years, of course, this depends on how much data you need.

    • +1

yeah i had a look at these yesterday but as you say the monthly plan fees are just so exorbitant that there's no deal here unfortunately.

  • +4

Not sure why the OP is saying "since Optus doesn't do the deal for some reason"
Optus has a 12 month 50GB postpaid plan and includes the Pixel 9 repayments for $1400 over 12 months, so the total cost is much the same as this. No deal.
Also worth noting this from the Telstra site during signup: "For mobile plan customers prices will increase from 27 August 2024, increasing your monthly and minimum costs. Mobile Basic increases by $3/mth, Mobile Essential by $3/mth, Mobile Premium by $4/mth, Mobile Bundle by $2/mth. Plan price may change."

    • +2

Gave you an upvote for adding the soon to be increased price rise heads up, most important.

    • I mean the discount on the pixel 9 over a 12 month period, Optus only has their discounts over a 24/36 month period. But the price increase is definitely not great and worth singing up for unless you're already with Telstra.

      • All that matters is the total cost over 12 months, for most (given this is OzBargain) with the plan cost plus phone, and this is no better than Optus (or Vodafone). That's all my point is :)
But yes, if Telstra is your only option where you live, go for it. For everyone else, no real point taking this.
Also, for those interested, Optus will give you $70 cash back, and Vodafone 110% of your plan in cash back via Top Cashback for a new customer contract.

        • I should add, the cash back is for the 1st month, to be clear.

  • +1

This is the deal I've been waiting for. Already with Telstra, Wasn't keen on porting to Optus etc for the job hifi deal. $744 is less than I paid for the pixel 5 that's it's replacing

  • +4

For anybody who doesn't mind Vodafone, you can price match with them and also stack the bonus $500 trade in bonus + whatever your trade in bonus is.

    • +1

I just spent an hour and a half on the phone to get this deal done.
$760 price match and beat + $820 trade-in credit including bonus.
      P9 Pro XL - $617

      • Which plan did you choose?

        • +1

I was already with Vodafone on a $49 plan - minus 15% (bundle discount), $41.65 then an additional $5 discount for 24 months for $36.65 per month.

          • @asaprocky: Nice. Whats the 15% bundle discount for? Additional.plans on the account?

Also do you end up paying the $617 over 12 months or upfront?

  • Got a pixel 9 256gb for $658 over 12 months using my Telstra points.

Best deal for me so far as I already use Telstra and was staying with them anyway as I have a few other accounts and data sharing sims linked to my plan.

    • Do you have 1 plan covering multiple SIMs or multiple plans? Trying to see if they have a budget plan for a family

      • +1

1 plan with add-on data share sim.

You can add-on data only sim for $10 a month and add-on phone plan for $50 a month. But you have to be on the upfront essential plan. Not the basic to be eligible.

So for two phones and a mobile broadband sim
        1 X essential phone plan 180gb $72
        1 X add-on bundle phone plan 25gb $50
        1 X bundle data share sim 10gb $10
        $132 a month for 215gb shared.

  • +2

Wow I think this is the first time I've experienced being proper screwed over by preordering

$750 off straight up is WAY better than a feee midrange tablet fml

    • Yep! I'm in the same boat. I just spoke with Telstra asking them if I could update to this deal as the Tablet wasn't even something I cared for and they didn't care. Basically too bad, too sad. Clearly this was a response to Optus having it on sale. Pretty shit.

  • I am Optus prepaid user. Really need to get a Pixel 9 phone asap. What's the best/cheapest way I can get it? I don't really understand the explanation above. Any help? Thanks

    • Get to vodafone and ask to price match Telstra's $750 off on pixel 9. Then stack the $500 trade in bonus plus the value of the trade in phone on top. Get the $49 plan for 12 months.

My breakdown for Pixel 9 Pro XL 256gb
      RRP $1999
      1999-760 price beat telstra= 1240
      1240-555 trade in old S9plus= 685
685 Final price for the P9P XL 256gb

You can do the same for any other model.

      • This seems like a really good deal.

Any gotchas? Is the phone out now in customer hands?

Been looking to get a new phone for my dad for fathers day and was eyeing the s24 plus/s24 ultra direct from samsung for around $1250/$1600 (with trade in bonus offers).

A pixel 9 pro xl for around $685 all up seems like a no brainer alternative.

The s24 plus / ultra seem to better all round phones but are they worth $500/$900 more?

        • I need the $49 plan for unlimited international calls.

Yes, I got the phone with this deal but think of it like P9P XL $685 + $588 ($49×12m) = $1273 for phone and plan.

If you need the plan for 180gb or international calling then its a no brainer.

          • @sekhon147: Isn't unlimited international calls plan priced at $59 not $49?

            • @mando7: They offered me this plan at $49 while price matching through the chat.

              • @sekhon147: That's really good. Are you using another Vodafone service or did they just offer discounted plan as well?

                • @mando7: I asked for student discount and they waived off $10 off the plan but they never asked for my student id.

      • So what happened if we decide to port out before 12 months contract finish?

  • Sorry for hijacking the thread but this is the most recent phone one.

With the impending end of 3G, I need to get a Moto G54 for a family member and soon.

I was waiting for a sale but time is now really short.

Most places are charging similar prices. Can anyone recommend a good company to buy from?

  • Anyone know when the 9 Pro will be available?

    • +1

You would think today, JB site says 24 Oct, no doubt easier if it's a weekday but google site said spring so who knows.

Stil haven't had time to set up the P9, was also waiting a few days incase there was a good/same deal on the 9 Pro. Interesting to note it's not run by SquareTradeUp now either. Probably a pain to change over and another trade deposit too so may not bother and get the 10 Pro or 11 (usually stick to the odd numbers ;)).

  • 50GB per month? what do you guys use it for?
