Stop tempting me with these handheld devices…

In related handheld news, Retrioid Pocket Mini was just teased

Oh no why did you have to show me that one. Now I'm tempted! The white and red instantly reminded me of the Ayaneo Pocket Air.

What's been confirmed by Retroid so far:

        • 4:3
        • 1280x960
        • 3.7inch
        • OLED
    • This is awesome, Retroid 4Pro:

      • 128GB UFS 3.1 + TF Card Slot
      • 4.7"
      • WiFi6

      Thanks for sharing that.

  • Solid device which is suprisingly comfortable for me. After I installed muOS, the boot and loading times were significantly faster making the software experience good. The only major flaw for me is that the buttons, especailly the dpad is really stiff and requires almost twice the force (130 grams) to press down compared to most other devices or controllers (60-70 grams). I don't mind the clicky sound but my fingers do get fatigued after 20-30 minutes. Supposedly the buttons do break in but man it gets tiring even though I do genuinely like this device.

If you have the patience you can do a button tape mod to fix them.

    • Do the tape mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnDCumOfgWg

I used electrical tape though, two layers on the d-pad, and two layers on the face buttons. I also added a small piece to the L2 and R2 buttons to stop the rattle. That change alone made them much quieter than they used to be.

I'm still tossing up between muOS and Knulli though.

      • I've done the mod, tried 2-3 layers but it made the buttons feel mushy as I could feel the tape and adhesive which felt worse to me than without. I don't really mind the sound and the mod did slightly improve the button stiffness but the mushiness of feeling the tape for me was worse so I removed it. I used electric tape and maybe a different tape would help, but ultimately the problem is soldered on to the board and I can't realistically do much about that.

        • Ah, fair enough. I used the Nitto branded electrical tape, but it's the older stuff that's made in Japan, and not made in China. That seems to be a bit stiffer and not as mushy compared to other brands of tape, that may be the difference.

I've read that some people use Gaffers tape, but that seems a bit… much.

    • The only major flaw

They’ve been catching fire. That’s my guess why the price is dropping quick for a device that many were initially really excited for. Wouldn’t surprise me if Anbernic is clearing out stock for a new revision.

Maybe 3 devices out of 50,000+ sold.

        • That we know of, so far. There’s clearly a design and or quality control issue related to having the battery so close to the CPU in such a small case.

I value the safety of my family too much to risk it.

  • Stahhppp.. must resist..

  • Tried a lot to resist but too tempting ,bought 😞

  • Damn, after tax I just paid like $10 more just last week.

  • Damn. That's cheap.
