  • Sorry for the beginner questions:

    1. I live in a small house and currently use a TP-Link AC2100 Wireless VDSL/ADSL Modem Router. It does pretty well to hit most of the house except for a new room that we built off the garage. I use a TP-Link Wifi extender to get coverage in the room. The speed in the room isn't as good as the house and when I move into the house after being in the room, my connection cuts out. Would a mesh system fix the issue?

2.I think the two unit pack of this mesh system should be sufficient. Just wondering if one of the units needs to be connected to the modem via cable?

    1. I'm scheduled to get the NBN fibre upgrade at the end of the year. Will these be capable of taking advantage of 1000 speeds?
      1. Yes, but mostly because it's ax, not ac.
      2. Yes.
      3. You could possibly get 1 Gbps connected to the main unit on a laptop/desktop or flagship phone, but you won't on a secondary unit not connected by cable. For that you'd need a tri-band mesh eg.XE75.
  • They work very well in my house. Connect all rooms.

  • Be warned Decos have a major issue. You can't select which units connect to each other. I have 3 units in a line yet the two furthest away units connect to each other causing crap performance.

    • +1

Could you not just physically swap the nodes to put them in a better order?

      • No because they want to hub and spoke but I want them to daisy chain.

        • Ahh ok gotcha. I’m guessing the hub is whichever node has the ethernet/WAN input which for you is one of the end rooms?
If so, that definitely does sound like a bit of a down side!

        • with X20 you cant but with X55 you can: https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/3480/

    • Yeah, that does suck. The M5 has that option, hopefully one day they will put that in more models.
Usually it's fine for me, sometimes if I reboot the mesh it selects the wrong one(s) so I just reboot single APs and that makes it right.

    • My M5's can be configured

    • I have 3 units in a line yet the two furthest away units connect to each other causing crap performance.

Can you just turn off that one to force it to connect to the one you want?

      • It doesn't seem to be possible for me. Maybe a problem with the Android app or the version of x20 /x80 I've got

      • Can you just turn off that one to force it to connect to the one you want?

So I fixed it by disconnecting the one I wanted as the 3rd access point. When it reconnected it connected to the 2nd access point which has the strongest single for it.

  • How do these compare to Google nest WiFi?

    • +1

on specs is the same but people complain the Google Nest Pro has poor range

    • Google Nest Wifi are just endlessly infuriating in my experience. I've got 2 extra mesh points in my house and they constantly just go offline for no reason, the app constantly just doesn't work, etc. Constantly having to reboot the units.

    • A lot more flexibility to add on an extra node with TP Link given how cheap and likely compatible other deco models are.

Though I can see a benefit in using Google as they already have all your data anyway…

  • I have seen that. I currently have a google nest router as the main and older google WiFi points around the house. I hit speeds after 800-1000 Mbps on the main but when running normal speed test only getting around 100. Been thinking if I should upgrade or just run Ethernet cables to each point.

  • Does this type of mesh system work better than mesh compatible routers? Or all the same if they are Wi-Fi 6?

  • How's TP-Link vs. ASUS? Specifically, I'm comparing to this expired deal (I know Asus is AX1800 so slower, but any difference in processor speed / how many devices it can handle)?

    • I've had mid-50s devices hooked up to my X50 mesh

  • I currently have the AC1200 Deco M5 triple pack system at home, if I am correct I can add this Deco X55 triple pack system into my existent network right?

    • Yes.

  • Q: if I get an AXE75 for the main house, can I use Decos to spread throughout the property? And will it all work as mesh? Cheers

    • +1

Yes. Decos are compatible with each other.

  • I am thinking about replacing dodo running through telstra gen 3 at 100mbs fttp. Was considering the gl. Inet flint 2 or would this be better. 2 storey brick house. Have the modem in closed room?
Also may move from dodo and get a faster plan.
    Any advice would be good.

  • I have a TP link Archerv2100 in a concrete & brick apartment.
The apartment is kind of long so I just need to get the wifi signal down the other end.

Would getting 3 of these be overkill? I probably just need 1 right?
