  • OP, I am after door bell that rings on mobile phone app, but with screen panel inside house as well, can this be done?

    • Can technically be done with the Reolink Video Doorbell with some tinkering.

ie. Connecting the Doorbell to a NVR/PC/Network to view and setting up the Reolink App for Phone Notification.

    • You could just mount a tablet I guess?

      • +1

Yes, I have same setup. Reolink Doorbell -> NVR -> Tablet on wall.
Only problem is, my Motorola M9 tab doesnt have auto-wakeup feature, so everytime I have to go turn it on.
If anyone else here any trick please share.

        • Does android have native automation or could you use an app which wakes up the tablet when it detects motion from the tablet's camera.. That way when someone stands in front of the tablet to check the door bell ringing, the automation will wake up the tablet.

          • @brandt: M9 doesn’t have that feature but I am interested to find out if there is any free app which wakes up the tablet when it detects motion from the tablet's camera. Do share if you know any of such app. Thanks.

        • +2

Try using andriod fully kiosk for setup an android tablet for home assistant.

        • +3

See if tasker can do something

        • Try an app called WallPanel. I use it for my Home Assistant setup, you can have it run like a kiosk and set it to wake the screen whenever it detects front camera motion.

    • +3

      someone achieved this using macrodroid.

Here is the Reddit link: https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/14fqntq/is_ther…

    • Use home assistant to cast to a Chromecast connected TV when the doorbell is activated

  • +3

When will there be a battery version available

    • +5

Reolink does make a battery version of the doorbell, but not available yet.

      • Thank you for the information

    • according to Reddit guestimate, by Sept. This was on the Reolink product pipeline for this year.

      I'm waiting for this too.

      • +1

What’s the benefit of the battery version to this? Wouldn’t Poe be more reliable? Or is this more for those who can’t get a Poe cable ran & installed (eg renting etc?)

        • Correct, or if you need to mount it on the door itself

        • Yes, main benefits POE is no charging, can't be defeated via deauthers. Con is install costs of catx cable

Battery requires to be charged, but you can mount it anywhere, and doesn't need a catx cable

Imo, CCTV on POE, battery wifi doorbell is fine

    • It was announced a while back. Have been waiting for it and hoping it either officially supports solar as well, or I can connect one anyway.

      • Yes, waiting for this one too

  • +1

Amazing value, would pay double that.

    • +2

I paid double that. And no regrets. It’s a great doorbell.

    • Agree - great value. I've hand one for a couple of months and it's working really well.

I also got a micro SD for it so that visitors are recorded (e.g. when I miss a visitor or when the Aliexpress delivery person drops off a package).

  • Can this somehow trigger an old school analogue chime?

    • When I was looking at these the other day I believe I saw that you can wire up traditional 12v chime in the manual or product page

      • -1

        Havent done this myself
        But they have a guide

        https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/10313334138265…

        • This guide is only to use existing power supplies/transfers of original chime. Can't trigger an old school analogue chime with this doorbell, unless you cracked open one of the reolink chimes and added a relay to the speaker output of it.

      • Powered by 12V or triggering a 12V chime?

        • Only powering via 12v, can't link 12v chime

    • No, it can't trigger it. It can be powered from an old school chime power supply, but the chime itself must be bypassed. It comes with its own wireless chime anyway, so it does not rely on app.

    • +1

This person is using a Shelly device to ring an oldschool chime: https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1evxkh9/comment…

  • shit i literally just ordered one about 3 days ago

    • Huh, I've ordered 12 hours ago directly from Reolink.

  • This is a pretty good doorbell, but the speaker on it doesn't work that well for me. When someone presses the doorbell, I would love for the ringer to sound on my phone as well.

    • +1

You should have the option for 'Visitor' in your push notifications

If the option is missing, then you'll need to update the firmware of your doorbell camera and/or NVR.

    • +1

It does ring on the phone, you have to enable "push notifications" and "incoming call from doorbell" (on the same menu) it in the app

      • I haven't been able to get this to work. I have recently installed the reolink POE doorbell and I literally just had someone ring the doorbell and i missed it entirely because it only pushes a 'motion' notification instead of actually ringing the phone. Push notifications are enabled already

        • +2

Try updating the firmware, new firmware for the PoE and Wifi doorbells dropped yesterday (The manual check for updated firmware in app doesn't work).

          https://reolink.com/au/download-center/

"Motion" alerts is when it's detecting motion
          "Animal" for an animal
"Person" for a person (but they don't necessarily have to press button)
"Visitor" is when someone presses button

From memory when I set it up on a family member's phone, I had to also check that the Reolink app had the correct permissions to trigger notifications

      • The option for "incoming call from doorbell" doesn't appear in my app menu for some reason.

Push notifications is On. I can only see "Schedule" and "Push Interval (Sec)"

    • its a separate permission you have to turn on for the notification to play a custom sound/notification. there should be instructions in the app

  • -5

Do not waste money on this, I bought couple of months back trusting on the description that video connectivity to mobile will work over POE but it has never worked. Tried changing POE switch, swapped with POE adapter, no luck. It's waste of money.

    • What do you mean, I got one recently and I just connected it to my POE switch and scanned the QR code and the app was all ready to go and shows the video feed

    • -1

Are you talking about accessing the app when you're not connected to the home wifi network? eg. Not at home and using mobile data?

    • -1

thats just you man. you just need some help or contact support

  • Thank you OP. Gutted I missed the recent Amazon ATL of $74.98 but this is close enough.

    Cheers.

  • Is this something I can consider fitting as a tenant and carry with with me when I move on or it's only worth it if permanently fixed?

    • +3

Not really, unless you're able to drill a hole for the Ethernet Cable.

I would recommend waiting for the battery version or looking at other alternatives.

    • Depends how good you are at patching holes :)

      • +2

        Yet to find out :P

  • Does this come with the POE Switch?
And since this is wired and requires connection to the router, has anyone worked the best way to connect it, since everyone wouldnt have router next to the door or if this is located far away from the router.

    • +2

Doesn't come with a PoE Switch.

'Best way to connect' would vary based on your house layout.

      • Thank you confirming! Will have to do deep dive into figuring out what will work best in my house given there is no electricity or router port anywhere close to the door.

        • +2

May as well go PoE and run ethernet once (I had to do that for one door that had similar setup to yours)

          • @bdl: Thank you, that's a bit of motivation. Did you do it yourself or had to call someone in?

As the idea is to do extra external cameras as well, might get a future proof POE and figure out wiring this coming weekend.

            • +2

@morpheous: I've done a few but for this one I called someone in. Make sure you use solid core cable (not copper plated aluminum).

Remember the most expensive part of wiring is the labour rather than the cable itself - so if in double, run two lots of wires when planning your cameras :)

  • +1

Any links to the white version?

    • I think it's just the black one.

  • Can this somehow call a webhook? If so, then soething like https://ntfy.sh/ is what I'd recommend. You can then get push notifications to whatever devices you like when someone rings the bell.

    • Not without linking it in via HA. It does do email notifications, so can be used with Pushover…

  • how reliable and responsive are these? As in when someone rings the bell is there much delay in getting a notification on your phone? I have an Orion DC56HA from bunnings and there can be 10+ seconds before you get a notification; then by the time the app opens and the camera view shows up the delivery driver is already leaving!

    • +1

its pretty quick compared to my old xiaomi doorbell. takes at most 2 seconds for my phone to start ringing after the chime does. usually about 1s

      • Agreed. I find the same experience for both my Reolink Wifi and PoE doorbells

  • how does it compare with google doorbell?

    • Doesn't tie you into the Google subscription model if you want to store video

My Reolink doorbells work fine to store video (with no subscription) using a Reolink Home Hub

Waiting for Reolink battery one to release so I can replace one Google Doorbell with it

paypal $53.60 USD becomes $84 AUD.

ING $53.60 USD becomes $80.52 AUD.

    • was 88aud for me
      ohwell. cheap enough
      thanks

      • did you use the right coupon code?!

i tried all 3, they varied in the discounts

        • three? the post just mentioned two.
ohwell. 88 less than a second hand one off fb

    • Do you get the ING price if you use PayPal and select ING card to pay, or do you have to enter ING card details at checkout?

      • +1

i entered the ING card details at checkout.

The paypal price of $84 would of charged my ING card linked to my paypal account.

    • Can you please explain why people tend to pay using USD for AliExpress? I mean wouldn't the conversation rate and the fees associated with it makes it not worth it? Genuine question.

      • +3

Some debit and credit cards don't have fees for foreign currencies or intl transactions, and the conversion rate is better

        • Could you please share some examples?

          • +2

@Buddyz: Use a card that has nil conversion fees.
For example 28 Degrees, which uses Mastercard conversion rate. You can look this up and plug in numbers too see current day exchange rates between different currencies.
Set Ali to USD for the product you have interest in, note it. Then set Ali to AUD for the same product and note it.
Then use the Mastercard conversion site to work out the USD to AUD exchange rate. For me, in every case the exchange rate to AUD is less than the AUD listed by ALI.

            • @Frankly Frankie: Surely there's some other fees associated with the cards like… Annual fees, overdraft fee, and account keeping fee? I'm always a little skeptical about these things. Could you break down the card fees?

Edit: or could it be the total savings per transaction is greater than the card fees?

              • +1

                @Buddyz: No, zero fees.

              • +1

                @Buddyz: Zero fees.
If you overdraft, yes. If you don't pay balance at end of month, yes. So don't let these two items occur.
This card costs me nil and saves me money.
It was the community here at OzB that introduced me to these cards many years ago.

                • @Frankly Frankie: I'm assuming it's this one; it's the Latitude 28 degree platinum master card? It does have a monthly fee of $8 AUD.

      • +1

my bank ING, have good rates for foreign exchange and refunds me any foreign conversion fee. So its normally the cheapest way

  • May I check, as I bought the camera with it the nvr from the last deal. Are most people also buying the nvr from AliExpress with their camera?

    • +1

You don't need to if you don't want to, since it takes a MicroSD and you can set it to only record on events (rather than continuously record, which is what you'd want an NVR for)

      • Thank you so much!

  • -2

I had this poe doorbell and have removed/returned it (Amazon). Using onvif/rtsp to connect to a hikvision nvr (which works for 24/7 recording), the doorbell press alerts / motion events from the reolink app do not work - which defeated the point of the product for me. The app could still stream the doorbell etc, so not a firewall issue. Also (before setting it up for a hikvision nvr/onvif/rtsp) push alerts to your phone do not include an image of who is at your door. And the delay to locally stream is too long. Also consider whether you want to have a network port exposed at your front door.

    • +1

Looks like this is fixed with latest firmware: https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1evxkh9/comment…

      • They might have fixed it, can’t test, but I waited for 6 months and no updates or commentary from reolink in that time at all. They don’t mention anything about the lack of doorbell press / motion alerts for the reolink app (while using ONVIF) on their update release notes.

I was not bothered about the lack of ONVIF motion events data, but rather the lack of doorbell press notifications and motion detection notifications via the reolink app. The chime worked but not push notifications.

  • Can anyone comment on this with the iPhone / iOS app? Is it fast and decent? Seems most comments relate to android. Cheers

    • Yes, fine on both platforms

  • are the wifi ones any good?

  • Watched some YouTube reviews on this. One interesting thing is it seems to just click onto the wall bracket and the micro sd card is inside the back of the doorbell (for those who don’t have an NVR), so I’m guessing:

    1) a thief could steal the $80 doorbell quite easily by unclipping it (does it need a special hex or Allen key?)

    2) if you don’t have a NVR, any evidence of such will be gone?

    • +2

      1) There's a pin hole that needs to be pushed to remove the front to gain access to the SD. If I wanted to remove it though, I'd just bash the unit off the wall with a stray brick. That's why you protect it with another camera pointing towards it :)

      2) Correct, with a NVR you will have nice video footage of someone fscking your doorbell. Until they break in and steal your NVR, too.

      • Thanks for the info! Appreciate it :)

  • So i have a basic doorbell which rings a chime inside. I believe its powered with 2 cables, can i just unplug the old doorbell and use this via wifi?
