My partner (a fellow OzBargainer) keeps telling me no more torches so here's another from everyone's favourite Wuben xo. It's well reviewed at 1lumen and manages to achieve the claimed brightness of 2000 lumens.

Features include an SST40 6500K LED bulb with 2000lm brightness, tactical/outdoor light modes with memory function & tail switch, removeable 2100mAh 18650 battery, USB-C charging and IP68 waterpoof rating.

As with a lot of these torches I recommend swapping out the battery for something more high quality than the generic 18650 battery. If you want to get 18650 batteries on a budget and don't mind a long wait (via sea) I recommend the LiitoKala 3500mAh batteries.

    Wu-Ben again?

    • Aww yeah, again and again

  • Yeah, your partner says no so you're trying to get the rest of us in trouble with our partners. I see what you're up to.

What you do is show her the IMALENT MS32 and say it was either that or this. Then she won't be so mad.

You know what? Might as well be hung for a sheep as hung for a lamb. I'm going in, if you don't hear from me again at least know that my final moments were well lit.

      • I'M going to be mad though.. Because you'd have paid WAY over double the current price of one if you chose that link.. 😅

  • I used to work for a retailer that sold military surplus, it’s certainly not a tactical torch, and is irrelevant to all of the cadet schools which is where we made most of our money selling military surplus, if the torch doesn’t include a red colour filter, as well as blue and green filters.

    • So a tactical light is no longer tactical if it doesn't comply the ADFC rules? Nah that's not true at all. When I was a cadet we were allowed to have non-red lights in certain situations anyway.

Now I'm getting flashbacks of all the obese Army reject officers gatekeeping and power tripping.

@Clear - And when were you a cadet (and when have you sold military surplus gear, and who for/which business? There’s not many left in Australia), are you currently 14-18 years of age? For the exercises that they currently do at cadet schools in Sydney, they are told by their schools (2 being Singleton and Knox Grammar), to purchase a torch that includes red, green and blue filters.

  • does anyone know how this compares to the Sofirn sp36 or the Sofirn Q8, I have been saving up for a nice torch

    • What do you need it for? I have the SP36 and believe these are two completely different level of torches. The latter can actually act as a decent powerbank if you're ever with it (and a cable) in a tight spot. The SP36/Q8 are flooders whereas this Wuben is a thrower. If you wanted a decent torch with both, I can recommend a Olight Marauder Mini. Although it has proprietary charging. And is more than double this Wuben (when on special). Personally I'm waiting for the next round of AliExpress coupons to go live to try out the Mateminco FW1.

Actual 2000 lumens, replaceable & upgradable batteries, and USB C charging?

    Breathes in deeply.

Nope. I have more torches than I know what to do with. Don't need no more. I don't even use them bloody things that often. Why do I even have so many of them?

I had a 20mins black out a few weeks ago and I felt good using the torches I got from these posts. 100% worth it when the time comes, gotta have patience for that once in a decade situation :)

      • I already have enough portable light sources to emulate daytime in my living room during a blackout… 😅

      • I'm sure your mobile phone would have done the job just fine..

      • yea same… i bought a few torches and during the power outages in victoria they were amazing help.. also got a 600watt battery and solar panel through ozbargain, and 2x camping fridges.. which proved amazing.. which also charged the EGO LT1000E floodlight which was a star of the show, which was well worth its weight in gold and has been ever since (which i didnt get through ozbargain but got onsale from Amazon for $210 i think, its a skin only and you need the batteries, lucky i had just bought the Ego lawnmower set.. my house was out of power for 2 weeks where i lived.. i had powerful room filling light every night and saved around 70% of the food in the fridges. And could charge my phones etc through the solar panel battery, it was awesome.. want to get a large solar battery one day, to hook up to the house solar panel system, that will be clutch

    • 2000 lumens is not sustained for a long time, around 2 mins at 2000 lumens then 700 lumens for 2 hrs.

I'm eying the Acebeam E75 which can do 1000 lumen for over 1.5 hrs and can be bought for just over $100. I just bought another UV light for $50….

    • Put on some high vis, get a keyring with a shitload of keys and roleplay as a mall cop.

      • White shirt black pants black tie… Check.
        Sunglasses… Check.
        Donut… Check.
        Beer belly… Check.

Just gotta get meself a segway and I'm all set 😂

What qualifies a torch to be described as "tactical"?

    • i think tactical is geared towards self defence… can be temporarily blinding to look at if you know what i mean.. which may buy you some time in a scary situation. The body usually is more aggressive than a regular torch if you have to go dancing in the club, if you know what i mean.. and also the functions, other torches like edc torches have many more light functions that you can set the brightness to, and a whole bunch of different strobes etc which you cycle through usually, which in a scary situation you do not want to be doing… whereas a good tactical torch will have one button the when you press it normally or in an emergency panicked situation, and it will always reliably emit a high blinding beam. And if it does have a secondary mode, they make it harder to accidently go into it, which could save you if your nickers get in a twist and every second counts.. lookup Weltool T2 TAC ODG Compact on youtube (costs around $170 AUD) , and you will see what makes a really good tactical torch, which some say is the best under $200 at the moment… or you can use it to just reliably illuminate the darkness, which is why i use one.
so for less than half the cost of one of the best tactical torches under $200 on the market, this Wuben T1 might be worth it

Black exterior, generally rugged looking, pictured held by a hand in fingerless gloves and attached to some sort of nonsensical firearm combo usually featuring a torch that's larger than the gun.

i.e. marketing fluff and Murica/Chynah strong-military culture baiting.
