  • New speeds (incl. upload) will be released later this year unlikely to have a price increase…

    I'd wait….

    • +1

wait for what? couldn't you just swap to the new plans when they come out?

      • wait for what?

        I'm paying $85 for 250/25 now…

That will increase to 750/50… Don't see why I should pay $139 now instead of $85…

        • I'm paying $85 for 250/25 now…

I'm paying $75 for 100/20 now, don't really need that fast.

            @superforever:

            don't really need that fast.

Then you probably won't be taking up this 'deal' either…

Of course, just want cheaper instead of faster.

                    It's the opposite

          • @superforever: You'll be getting the speed increase anyway once they come in, should be put onto around half a gig.

          • @superforever: I only pay $59/m for 100/20 plan.

          • @superforever: How did you guys get such cheap deals?
I am now paying $89 for 50/20 FTTC plan. Just had my home upgraded to FTTP and going to change to 100/20 plan, which will cost me $95.

            • @edfoo: From the $20-$40 off deals posted here. Who is your ISP?

              • @Twix: AussieBroadband, because this deal is about AussieBroadband.

                  @edfoo: 100/20 $75/month for 6 months ($85/month ongoing) @ Buddy Telco (Aussie BB). CG-NAT is on and you can't turn CG-NAT off.

I used the $20 off monthly for 12 months deal to upgrade to 250plan and downgrade it after 1 month.

        • That's a good deal who's that with ?.

Also, 10% off for a family member for using their referral code.

Brutal that HFC has ended up locked out of these - can't get a fibre upgrade, can't get high speed plans, just stuck on aging unreliable technology.

    • You'll be able to get 1000/100 on HFC later this year.

I get these are "increased speeds" but are we seriously okay with paying $140-$200 a month for internet at home? it's an insane world.

This is the kind of speeds we should be paying the price we pay for 50/20 etc

    • +1

Internet in Australia is crazy expensive.

    • You obviously were not around in the early days of ADSL?

      • +3

        I was. I remember paying 19.90 a month.

I'm sure an inflation calculator will tell me that's now worth 1000 lol

        • So you claim you were paying $19.90 a month for ADSL and that included the phone line rental fee. As if. ADSL was never $19.90 a month from any Australian ISP you couldn't get it for that price. I remember paying about $80 per month for ADSL which included the phone line rental fee and also a pitiful amount of data allowance. This was the original ADSL not long after it came out. Even when ADSL2+ came out it was way more expensive than $19.90 which you claim. With ADSL you couldn't buy it without paying the phone line rental fee (unless it was naked ADSL) but that also was more than $19.90 a month. I believe the phone line rental fee alone in those days was $30 a month and then the ADSL fee was on top of that. There's no way you could get hooked up to ADSL for $19.90 a month.

$19.90 was more like dialup internet price but that doesn't include the phone line rental fee or call costs to even be able to use it (unless using your parents phone line without having to pay for call costs). Maybe your parent paid for that part.

          • +1

@hollykryten: Yeah you are probably right. They did pay it. I didnt factor in the line rental costs.

Maybe it was 19.90 for dial up less line rental.

But i still dont remember going "holy shit adsl is ridiculously expensive" you just picked the plan that gave you what you needed instead of picking the plan that was what you could afford. Which is the scenario we are in now.

  • +2

Just wow! A residence "needing" to spend $199/M.

    • -2

Some people don't like the 'spinning wheel' on Netflix.

      • +4

Some people don't like the 'exorbitant prices' we pay in Australia.

        • That is a lose-lose then with Netflix and ISPs, so the two negatives cancel out…

          • +1

@jv: No one on OZB is paying full price for Netflix so it's a win-lose.

        • +1

$199/month is not an exorbitant price compared to https://www.digimobil.es/fibra-optica/pro-digi/10gb
          It's something else.

      • Let me guess, those people who joined Netflix with VPN foreign country, paying just $10 per month instead of $25 Aussie price, saving $15, yet willing to pay $199 per month for NBN internet. Hmm…

        • My Aussie netflix has gone down to $7.99 per month now.

          • +1

@jv: Is that Basic plan with ads?

            • @edfoo: Yes. Have not really noticed any difference (except the cost)

              • @jv: I read with that Basic plan with ads, you missed out some shows. Is that correct?

                • @edfoo: I haven't noticed any that are missing.

                  Do you have any examples?

                    • @KangaDrew: That seems to be for US netflix… We don't get many of those regardless…

                      • @jv: Exactly. So if it's missing titles in the US you can be certain Australia won't have them either due to licensing restrictions.

                        • +1

@KangaDrew: Thanks, however I notice that article is from Nov 2022. Since then we don't have Basic plan anymore, just Standard with Ads, Standard and Premium plans. So does the current Standard with Ads plan still missing some shows?

                        • @KangaDrew:

Exactly. So if it's missing titles in the US you can be certain Australia won't have them either due to licensing restrictions.

Most of them will be missing anyway regardless of which level you are on, so it doesn't really answer the question.

There's plenty of us, but most people are only 'needing' the 1000 down aspect of it can get that for a much lower price. The rest of us who want the 400 up as well as the 1000 down can take this.

  • Uniti Wireless 1000/50 is $99/mo for 6 mo then 109 ongoing.

If you hunt around you can usually get a bit more of discount from them too…..

I have had 0 issues with my connection so cannot comment on the CS aspect

    • +3

You're paying for upload speeds here. Many better deals out there if interested in download speeds only.

      • +2

the prices dont seem much more expensive than the lower speed upload plans available from this ISP.. 1000/50 is 129/mo from ABB

    • I'm paying $109 / month for 1000/50 + voip connection with ABB, for a year then reverts back to regular pricing. Pretty decent really (Aus), well imo.

  • +2

thanks op, 1000/400 here we go!!!

On a business plan and still shows $299 for 1000/400. Not the $199. Know not eligible for the $30 off.

    • +1

1000/400 business grade stays at $299.

1000/400 $199 is consumer grade under the Aussie BB PRO branding.

      • They use better quality photons in their business grade fibre.

        • @jv haha, guess they do. Know ABB not the cheapest but reliable and not much downtimes. Especially during their maintenance/upgrades.

          • @Mikael:

and not much downtimes. Especially during their maintenance/upgrades.

NBN determines downtimes, not the ISPs…

Just downgraded from ABB to Superloop. While I could always max my connection on ABB doing FTP downloads I was paying $129 for 100Mbps when my new Superloop connection is $85 for 250mbps with single threaded downloads averaging about 100Mbps and multithreaded downloads averaging around 200mbps so for the majority of the time it's an improvement on the ABB plan for 2/3 the price.

    • when my new Superloop connection is $85 for 250mbps

Didn't you get the free 2 months on 1000/50 ?

  • +1

Launtel is cheaper than that, what a time to be alive! $6.41/day x 31 = $198.40 (1000/400, of course)

Why would anyone choose ABB at these prices?

    • +1

Launtel no static IP. ABB free static IP.

    • +1

Launtel is not cheaper when you add in the static IP address. Launtel charge $0.15c per day or $100 upfront and the $100 is returned when you no longer need a static IP address.

Aussie BB static IP address is included.

      • +2

Yes it's good as the static IP through ABB is normally $5 through the static IP Bolton. But with this the static IP is included by default in the total plan price.

  • +1

so when are these plans coming to Opticomm network? =D
