Worth noting 6th gen technically doesn't support Windows 11.

I'd probably opt for an 8th gen personally if you plan to run windows. And unless you need the space (half height GPU?), the tinys are probably a better option for power draw/space use, 7060 micro etc.

I would have to agree. At this price we're getting very close to what you can find an equivalent 8th gen for so this is priced too high, IMHO.

      • The SFF is probably the worst out of the bunch as well. USFF Is tiny and easily hiden. Desktops got the expandability for graphics cards and drives. SFFs? Low profile and most likely single slot cards, and would have a smaller power supply to their desktop counterparts. So no expansion opportnuty but also lack the size advantages of USFFs.

The SFF Dells are smaller than most and have x16 and x4 (half height) slots. I have 4 x nvme in my 7080 SFF (2 on pcie adapters). The SFF also has space for an 80mm fan. My Dell SFF "server" suits my needs but if all you need is a couple of m.2 slots and silence (pretty much), the Micros are awesome.

    This is ancient

Saving e-waste from the landfills and energy wasteful recycling process. Win.

      • +6

Sure, but for $179 you can buy a more recent model with less energy consumption. Win-win.

      • Still landfill, just yours, not theirs.

Oh, come on. The i5 version was previously sold for ~$85, and that was last year (it's even more ancient now):

    • That's a great price for a Botocera system.

      • I have a 4th gen Optiplex 9020 with a low profile GT1030. Maybe I should install Batocera on it.

        • Yeah that would be good. You should be able to get GameCube and PS2 running on it easily. I'm currently running an i5 6500T with 16GB RAM and an Intel HD530 iGPU. I can't afford a 1030LP card. It's too expensive.

          • @HandsomeMonkey: From memory I paid something like $50 for the 1030 (Gumtree). Yeah, not too cheap wrt the cost of the computer.

    • Definitely better value back then - half price for not much performance difference.

About $100 would be expected $ for these? They are pretty long in the tooth

If you're buying these old systems for a cheap second machine for non-performance-critical applications, then save money and go for something like the i3-9100: https://metrocom.com.au/shop/computers-tablets-networking/de…

The i3-9100 is four years newer tech and performs the same or better as the i7-6700. Spend the extra money on ram and you'll have a much better experience.

(ignore this if you need something specific to the optiplex form factor like slots)

yeah thats a much better buy for most purposes

That’s the deal the OP should have posted.

This was a great deal back in 2020.
