I just got an email with a 20% off code. Looks to be generic enough for anyone to use.

I recommend their dehydrated meals for hiking and their protein drinks are actually quite nice. Not horrible chemical tasting like so many others. I have not found a flavour I didn't like from them.

Jeez the sodium level is so high - 838mg/100g
    Others - 120-250mg/100g
    No thanks.

Not sure about now, but their original target market was for people with a more active lifestyle where the sodium is justified.
ie. Portable instant meal for long hikes.

These are mainly meant for hikers or mountaineers where the sodium levels are justified due to physical exertion.

Apologies if my comment offended anyone. My intention was to compare pure whey protein isolate, not realising that this product is more than just whey protein isolate and caters to a different audience.

I personally have yet to see the appeal of such products (portable meals, etc). They are less fresh and has tons of additives. Unsure how guys keep up with these, health-wise.

Have people become that lazy or intentionally time poor?

Just spare some good time on a day, make a nutritious good meal or hearty sandwiches/ soups/ meats at home and pack it well for trips/ hikes, etc. There are many very good options in packing/ containers (for hot or cold meals) for such things available these days.

This suggestion works for overnight hikes.
However, unsustainable for long distance hikes that spans over weeks.

Fresh meals have a number of serious downsides once you go longer than just an overnight hike.

      1. They are heavy. Due to there being a lot of water in regular food, the calories per gram is low compared with dehydrated meals.
      2. They go off, particularly if you're hiking in a hot climate.
      3. Often, fresh meals on the trail need a level of preparation - this can take time and be quite fiddly.
      4. They create a fair bit of waste, or require you to hike out with heavy containers. For example, if you brought oranges or bananas, you'd need to hike out with the peels. If you brought soup in a container, you'd have a heavy container to carry the entire time.

These dehydrated meals are lightweight and you just need to add water. On longer hikes (e.g. 4-10 days), carrying fresh food is not particularly viable for the reasons above, the biggest of which is weight.

We have used their low fodmap range quite a few times, it's very handy when travelling overseas where dietary food is hard to get.

The are one of the very limited available.

  • I wish they sold them individually. I'm at $85 and want to hit $100 for this deal and free shipping, but not sure I want to commit to two boxes or spending $40 on some overpriced protein powder
