i was years old when i learnt to avoid protein powders and the likes, just eat eggs

    • +3

      if y can find any

The yolk messes up your cholesterol as you get older.

      • +9

big big myth, good cholesterols, yolk is the best part

      • I exclude the yolks. Eating 3 eggs, take out 2 yolks. Its the whites that have the protein.

      • +4

While eggs contain cholesterol, they don't seem to be as detrimental to blood cholesterol levels as once thought. Focusing on limiting saturated and trans fats is generally considered more important.

          ☝️ This

What was once a long-held nutritional controversy (eggs and dietary cholesterol), is now settled - we have enough data to show that ingestion of cholesterol does not have a significant impact on serum cholesterol and lipoproteins.

The reason for this is how the body achieves homeostasis by regulating a number of physiological mechanisms, such as the degree of intestinal absorption, hepatic utilisation, and the degree of excretion (mostly in the form of bile salts).

Eggs are a phenomenal nutritional source and can be eaten liberally.

Yes, the amount of saturated fats in your diet has the biggest impact on serum cholesterol and a "bad" lipoprotein profile. It is therefore one of the biggest determinants of your rate of atherosclerosis, which is the underlying pathology causing the vast majority of vascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes, which is statistically the most likely cause of your death. It is recommended to consume less than 20g of saturated fats per day, and the less the better. Any intake of trans fats has the same effect (if you still have sources of trans fats in your diet in 2025).

The one dietary link that a lot of people aren't necessarily aware of is that of refined carbohydrates, like simple sugars, which similarly has a detrimental effect on your lipidology, especially increasing your serum triglycerides.

Use oils and fats that have minimal saturated fats, are predominantly monounsaturated and secondarily polyunsaturated. Generally that is avoiding animal fats and oils from coconut and palm, and using plant-based oils (that are not homogenised, like margarine). One caveat to that is diary such as milk, which are predominantly saturated and are not correlated with dyslipidaemia, but there are still low-fat and skim versions available to minimise saturated fat intake. And secondly, a lot of people like to speak down on plant oil with unsupported health claims, and in the same breath speak up on animal fats especially butter on the idea that it's comparatively less processed - don't get sucked in, the saturated fats will catch up with them when they are older, and plant oils are not harmful.

Eat whole grains and minimally processed forms of carbohydrates, especially as part of a meal and not by itself.

    • +4

    • +2

They oversold last shipment and there’s a shortage and price hikes, rep said nothing planned this year yet… not sure what I’ll do when I get to my last 1kg

      • For real? What's the next best alternative?

  • +3

    Seems expensive for WPC

    • Says WPI on the label in first picture

      • +3

lol, look at the ingredients on the second picture.

        • You are correct!

      • +1

WPI primary source, still a blend though.

  • +6

It comes down to $57 per kg. Still expensive!

  • +7

    This is not a deal.

Whey protein isolate presents a fascinating study in market revaluation. A once-discarded byproduct of industrial dairy processing, it now commands premium pricing within the fitness and wellness sectors, a phenomenon reminiscent of the alchemical transformation of base metals. This elevation in perceived value, predicated on its purported nutritional benefits, invites scrutiny. One observes a similar exercise in economic prestidigitation with certain nut-derived beverages, where a minimal quantity of nut solids is suspended in a disproportionately large volume of water, resulting in a product marketed as a 'milk alternative.' The profit margins, in both cases, suggest a triumph of marketing over material cost, a testament to the human capacity for, shall we say, optimistic valuation.

Even with S&S this is pretty much it's regular price. Better off waiting for an Amazon/Costco deal which brings it down to around $100 or less.

  • I put this on my steak every day.

  • +1

could have sworn costco have this every now and then for around $85…. Am I dreaming or is this not that much of a deal?

not trying to dis you OP - i quite often forget the prices i've paid on things and am happy to be brought back to reality.
