[NSW] Neovolt 10.1kWh Home Battery (inc Inverter) Installed from $7,500, Redeem $1,600 VoltX Cashback (Limit 300 Claims) @ VoltX

760

Great price on a 10KwH AC coupled home battery system which includes installation. The battery also includes a 5kw inverter.

Australian guy from SA posted his experiences over six months on reddit. He worked out the ROI was 6 years without even installing solar, as he just charged up his home battery on off peak power at 8c/kw during midday. Then used the battery to draw power for the evening and night. Rinse repeat.

His posts are here https://www.reddit.com/r/AusFinance/s/606GQLsOKZ

Great info and commentary in his posts.

Had initially been waiting for powerwall 3 but this could be too good to pass up.

@VoltX Energy any idea if this has on/off curtailment or load following curtailment and api use for providers like amber electric?

I’d love 2! all in one systems 10kW total inverter and 20kw total battery for use with amber electric wholesale pricing id be basically off grid with load following (if available) and selling excess only when FiT is positive.

    • +2

The NeoVolt system has VPP functionality, and our engineers are currently working with Amber Electric to get it approved for their VPP list. Amber is already testing the system, and we expect it to be approved very soon. This would allow you to take full advantage of Amber Electric's wholesale pricing, potentially going off-grid with a 10kW total inverter and 20kWh total battery system, while using load-following curtailment and selling excess energy when the FiT is positive

Hey there. I’m in Melbourne. Any deals going here?

    • +1

they can send the battery to you, however you would need to find your own installer

    • Hello, thank you for your inquiry. Currently, we do shipping only outside NSW.

  • Ok

  • Does your battery + solar package also get the $1600 cashback? If yes, are the prices shown already includes NSW solar subsidy?
Quite tempted by this offer but not sure which really suits us..

      • Is it eligible for the state subsidy then?
Can you confirm the brand of the solar panels as well?

        • My previous response was deleted to avoid confusion, sorry about that!

The state subsidy for the battery comes into effect on the 1st of November this year. Given the delay between the announcement and its application, we've partnered with Neovolt to offer an equivalent $1600 cashback for all of our NSW customers.

We fully intend to apply to be part of the battery approved retailers list, but since the list isn't available yet, we can't confirm who will be approved at this time.

Regarding solar panel subsidies, the subsidy amount is already factored into the total price we offer on our website (when you select a battery and solar package). You only need to pay the discounted amount upfront. We handle the subsidy claim on your behalf, so there’s no waiting for reimbursement on your end.

Regarding the brand of solar panels, we use Tier 1 branded solar panels. The actual brand at times may depend on your location and availability. If you have any preferences or would like to discuss options in more detail, please reach out to our support team:

Below are the requirements for the NSW Battery Rebate starting in 1st Nov 2024.
Good that you intend to be part of it.
Wonder if this NeoVolt product is even eligible with its 5yr warranty - while the requirement is 10yr warranty on the product.

What are the Battery Equipment Requirements?
            1. The equipment must be on the approved product list. This list isn’t available yet. Hopefully, it soon will be.
            2. It must have a usable storage capacity between 2 kWh and 28 kWh, as recorded on the approved list.
            3. The equipment must be internet-connectable and controllable so you can program your system.
            4. It must have a 10-year warranty guaranteeing at least 70% usable capacity retention after 10 years.
            5. The warranty must define normal use conditions, including:
            6. A minimum ambient temperature range of -10°C to 50°C.
            7. A minimum warranted throughput of 3.65 MWh per kWh of usable battery capacity.

          @Ceri
          I spoke with VoltX on 02 9052 7172.
(Offshore ?!?) Customer care centre folks doesn't seem to understand what an STC is and keep talking about 1st Nov NSW battery rebates and goes on to say they aren't eligible for 1st Nov NSW battery rebates.
          Was quoted $11300 -$1600 = $9700 for a 6.6kw Solar Longi 440W + 10.1kW battery with 5kW inbuilt hybrid solar inverter.
If they could factor in STC rebates, they can bring the price even down.

Interestingly, their hybrid inverters are listed in CEC approved inverters list (last 2 items in below pdf).
          https://assets.cleanenergycouncil.org.au/documents/products/…

@VoltX Energy - could you please clarify?

          • @maddykartik: The STC rebate has already been factored into the pricing we provide. To clarify further, we offer a 6.6kW solar system for $3,800 when it’s bundled with a battery package.

Yes, the NeoVolt inverter is on the CEC approved list.

Our team size is growing rapidly to keep up with demand, and we apologise for any confusion caused by the previous response; likely a new staff. We’ll be conducting a training refresher to ensure more accurate information going forward. If you have any other questions or need more details, feel free to reach out.

  • @VoltX Energy
    Is "NeoVolt" related to AlphaESS?

I see similarities on the "guest login" portals of both systems.
    NeoVolt - https://monitor.byte-watt.com/login
    AlphaESS - https://cloud.alphaess.com/login

    • NeoVolt and AlphaESS are not related. NeoVolt is manufactured directly by Byte-Watt. They are distinct brands produced by different companies.

  • Anyone else had this system installed and provide feedback? Also an someone confirm deposit if any? Thx

Also just a thought, if this price now, I wonder what will happen in November?

    • +1

Only a 10% deposit is required, which is $750, and we take care of the full installation before the remainder of the payment is due.

The current price of $7,500 with a $1,600 cashback is made possible through direct support from NeoVolt in response to the upcoming NSW government rebate. At this stage, we don’t plan on changing our $7,500 price, so the rebate will either continue through our partnership with NeoVolt (until 300 installations completed) or potentially through the NSW government.

  • These guys are funny. And working hard to make sales. I'm not sure if i want to be part of the "family"?

    • Yes I agree.
I initially asked them a whole array of technical questions and they just ignored it and basically just gave a sales spiel.

They also offered $300 referral for each person that I was able to refer too them.

Regarding Amber, I would go to the source and ask them if they are planning on adding this battery as I wouldn't trust a sales company.

  • @VoltX Energy

One thing I noticed in the last one week of running NeoVolt 10.1kW battery + 5kW inverter combo

Whenever the load changes, inverter doesn't instantaneously ramp down / up accordingly in sync with the load.
It kind of waits for a few (<5) secs and then equals the supply of house load entirely from the battery.
This behaviour therefore starts drawing power from the grid irrespective of the time and costs me money in the process.
Contrary, if my house load drops, battery tends to feed into the grid for a few secs before it ramps down equalling house load.

Members who uses a battery system (NeoVolt or diff brands) - have you noticed the same pattern in your installation?

I dont have Solar yet and using battery to load shift on OVO EV plan.
Savings calculator in NeoVolt app shows an average savings of $6 a day - in line with what OVO app charges me for usage with battery and before battery.
I end up cycling the battery twice a day and consume about 30kW power everyday.

    • +1

most battery systems i've seen have a small ramp up / down time.

importantly, it's NOT really costing you much (if any) money - most Australian 'smart meters' aggregate use over 30minutes….
i.e. if you use 1kWp for 29 minutes, and draw 10kWp for 1 minute….That half hour has only used 11kWp…
      or, 5.5kWh

a 5 second ramp up from 0kWp to 10kWp at a peak rate of 60c per kWh
Price of the energy involved….LESS than 1/1000'th of a cent………….

  • I think I have most of the answers I need now but please confirm one more thing. I have a 3-phase supply and 3-phase Fronius solar inverter. With a single-phase battery inverter, to balance the grid load, can your inverter regenerate power to the grid to give zero power in net metering?

  • Hi OP, would this battery work with my 3-phase Fronius solar inverter (fronius symo 10.0-3-m)?

    • I have Fronius Symo 8.2kW inverter. I have ordered a VoltX battery. I discussed the design with their technician and the main points were:

      • They need to install a smart meter rather than the included CT's, which are only for single phase installations. If you want to monitor solar production then they can install a smart meter with 6 CT's - 3 for grid and 3 for your Fronius inverter.
      • The smart meter adds around $500-600 to the price - I don't have the figures in front of me so I can't recall the exact amount.
      • You need 4 poles in your switchboard for the smart meter plus I think they need another pole or 2 for their breakers. I had to expand my switchboard with an extra load centre fed from a 3-phase RCBO.
      • The battery is still only a single phase unit so you get battery out on one phase only, but net metering still allows you to zero your net grid consumption.
      • Not directly relevant but there is an extra $250 for installation outside their Sydney region, Newcastle in my case.
  • While the deal seems enticing but there are some alarms bells
    1. the company/ product doesn't have a track record
    2. the price offering is substainly lower that other available products, how are they doing this?
    3. Even though they mention 10 year warranty, whats to say they will be around in 2 or 3 years? I recall alot of dodgy solar installers in the early days that went belly up and left many unhappy customers.
    4. On warranty what is the minimum battery state after 10 years? others like Tesla say 70% guarentee after 10years (or something like that)
    5. Does the battery have any safety features?
    6. Does the battery meet Australian electrical certification standards?

Even though the price sounds great I think it might be worth waiting to see how things ride out before jumping in early. If safety or longevity are of concern then maybe stick with Tesla PW, they have a proven track record and are probably the gold standard and bonus they will be eligible for the gov rebate.

  • Anyone has feedback who have used these guys please?
