17.5 Hour Flight Perth to Paris, How Will I Do It?

I will soon board that flight with Qantas and am wondering how the hell am I going to make it ?

What if I'm in the middle seat for those 18hours ?
Will there be enough fuel in the aircraft ? I mean this is a long trip
Can we exercise or walk / run somewhere in the plane ?
How many meals ?
How many days to recover from this experiences? are our bones getting thinner like after time-spent in the outter space ?
help

Just realised you are 'amayzingone' who also used to reply to the top comment on every post. Changed your name but not your bad habits

    wat

Shouldnt you have asked these questions before booking the flight?

    • +32

ozb rules no 1. book first think check later
ozb rules no 2. post about it instead

      • -1

ozb rules no 0.1 for next time we shouldn't bothered commenting on silly post so it won't make to the front page.

      • Buy now… Regret later. For everything else there's MasterCard.

    • +8

OP probably thought there is a connecting flight somewhere in the sky

      • +2

And a gym. Not to mention a 400 meter racetrack. Can't sit down all that time. Gotta work those muscles, stretch those legs!

    • +1

probably booked through fomo / yolo

  • -8

if travelling with a hot gf, i dont mind 17hrs on the "hot" sky

    • +2

      Rofl wtf

    • +12

Unemployed is definitely not travelling with a hot GF.

      • +2

I don't think CyberMurning is either

    • +16

What do you do for the other 16 hours and 59 minutes?

  • +11

    gameover br0
    GAMEOVER

  • +6

    Diazepam

      • +9

Do not listen to this person…
I take heaps and then get a red wine and then I chill the (profanity) out and relax and sleep. Then wake up, take an oxy repeat. It's fine 😁

        • -4

And your prescribing DR agreed ???
          Yeah right mate !

          • +6

@simplystu: Geez, lighten up. You're all over the place with how much you rambled above. Totally incoherent. Did your doc prescribe you something?

        • +2

Exact same here lol, i pop 2 x 5mg valium and zonk the f**k out for 4 hours. Rinse and repeat.

You have to be careful with the alcohol though as both benzo's and alcohol are central nervous system depressants and will amplify each others effects and your dumbass will stop breathing in your sleep.

      • +2

yeah Benzos are like a godsend for all my long haul flights round the world. wont touch them any other time to be honest.

        • How does one acquire them easily?

          • +3

@SnowDragon: Go to the Dr and tell them you have serious travel anxiety

      • +11

        What?
Benzos are great for long-haul travel. Cheaper than an upgrade, sleep well.
Even when I was woken on the train by border guards after a heavy dose, I was more coherent than the above post :)

        • what do I tell the GP to get Benzo without looking like a crackhead ? cheers

      • I think you mean xanax

      • You literally have no idea what you're talking about. Take 1/4 amount….?? pfft, I literally take double or triple the prescribed amount when I'm on a flight because it's so much harder to sleep on a plane. Works every time.

      • You're not gonna like my method of getting 10mg THC in me I suppose…

    • Diazepam has a half life of over 48 hours and makes me groggy the next day even if its only 2 mg. Temazepam clears your system really quickly and no hangover effect. Only downside to this is it doesn't last that long and if you're in a bad seat you might wake up after 4 hours and need a top up!
I'm not a doctor but repeating what my doctor recommended for long haul flights and why. He said he always takes Temazepam for long flights.

      • Agreed with this post. Other drugs leave me groggy, but Tamazepam has been a godsend for long haul flights. It’s won’t knock you out to the same degree, but it works well enough for me to be somewhat rested at my destination.

    • Couple of 2mg tabs should do it.

how the hell am I going to make it ?

Sleep. Watch a movie. Watch a TV show. Play video games. Play digital card or board games. Read a book. Read a travel guide. Learn a language. Get some work done. Study. Listen to an audiobook. Listen to a podcast. Listen to music. Daydream. Eat. Drink. Chill. Or rawdog it and do nothing. Or pay for data and browse OzBargain.

What if I'm in the middle seat for those 18hours ?

Not a big deal. Or you can pay to select your seat.

Will there be enough fuel in the aircraft?

    Yes. Not your business.

Can we exercise or walk / run somewhere in the plane?

Walk? Yes. Stretch? Yes. Run? No, they should treat you as a hijacker if you run and restrain you.

    How many meals ?

You should be able to check.

How many days to recover from this experiences?

    0.

Ok.. but what is he going to do for the remaining 13 hours?!

    • +5

I know it was in bold like the other questions but you forgot to answer the last part - will his bones get thinner from this trip?

  • +1

    Karma farming ..

      • Holy see through didgeridoo Batman!

  • +22

No idea as I only travel business class so have not encountered those issues.

    • +14

What's it like back there? My only travel tip is always go "First Class".

      • +10

What, you travel with plebs? Private jet or it's just not worth it.

    • I think if I had business class I could raw dog it

    • What do you do for work?

Also what is your highest level of education attained?

  • Lucky you!

  • +2

    i barely survive 10hrs flight

  • +3

    Maybe long-flight air travel isn't for you….

  • +8

    Just swim next time smh

  • just pull the emergency exit

  • +17

I will soon board that flight with Qantas and am wondering how the hell am I going to make it ?

    Chances are you won't.

What if I'm in the middle seat for those 18hours ?

Be prepared to fight for both armrests

Will there be enough fuel in the aircraft ? I mean this is a long trip

    No.

Can we exercise or walk / run somewhere in the plane ?

No. On longer flights, the aisle is patrolled. Bathroom breaks are supervised.

    How many meals ?

How many can you eat before the plane runs out of fuel?

How many days to recover from this experiences?

Irrelevant as you won't make it.

are our bones getting thinner like after time-spent in the outter space ?

Yes. If you do make it, years of physical therapy. Also, don't forget about blood clots. Make sure you get some tight tights.

    help

Cancel, take the financial hit and take the safe way - it's only 6 months on a leaky boat.

    • +12

Will the boat have enough fuel? How many meals will I get? What if I'm in a middle seat? Will it mess with my bones like those rich people on the submarine? Will I make it? Help

      • +3

Leaky boats are proven unlike these 17.5 hour flights or fancy new subs.

    • Cancel, take the financial hit and take the safe way - it's only 6 months on a leaky boat.

      Lucky just to keep afloat!

  • +1

just pack some headphones and a travel pillow and relax.

  • +1

    LOL!

They have Perth to London non stop too but I wouldn't do it.

I'd rather break it into 2x 13hr flights and stop in Dubai / Doha etc (from Melbourne).

I once did London to Dubai, then Dubai to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Melbourne. Arrived afternoon so I ended up having dinner in 3 continents.

    • What did you have?

      • +9

2 minutes noodle for all 3 meals

    • +10

I absolutely hate breaking up the flight unless I can avoid it, the knowledge that you need to crawl back into that fart infested tin can and do it all over again makes it 100 times worse for me.

Whereas I find time becomes fairly meaningless after a while on a really long flight. Just sit back and watch a couple of seasons of succession.

      • +1

I know some people who do it to try and maximise their time in various airport lounges to take selfies for the 'gram.

  • +14

I can see why you're unemployed now.

    • beat me to it hahahaha

  • +3

It's unfortunate there's no Wifi so we can't get 17 hourly updates whilst you'e in the air!

    • +1

I go for 8 - 9 hours without wifi on a daily basis

  • +3

    Drugs are bad… MMMMMMMMMMkay

  • +2

Ask the pilot to go via Antarctica instead, it's faster, jk of course.

  • +10

this community is attracting some proper nutters - i miss the days of the token bad driver without insurance, posting rubbish

it is like the smooth brains from r/Australia are spilling over

  • +2

All the cool kids are raw dogging flights these days. Try it and report back OP

    • With the hot GF onboard??

  • +4

    Raw dog it.

  • +1

The first and last 2 hours are for the Crew to set-up and un-set-up.

Plenty to do in between: Movies, walk, toilet, chat with your seatmate, drink (alcohol and non-alcohol), write journal, wash face, brush teeth, sponge bath, walk yo Business Clas, the upstairs of you're in 380, stare at screaming kids, headphone music, podcast, sleep.

    Repeat.

  • +1

Join the mile high club for a bit of fun and exercise during the flight.

    • km high club…

      • +1

        Screw the metric system.

  • Will there be enough fuel in the aircraft ?

    There often is.

    • +3

      But say there isn't

Air Crash Investigation S01E04 or S02E05 could be worth an watch before the flight

      • +6

I would recommend relaxing and watching all episodes to pass the time during the flight.

  • +1

What if I'm in the middle seat for those 18hours ?

Surely you have selected your seat when booking so this doesn't happen!!?

Will there be enough fuel in the aircraft ? I mean this is a long trip

    Hopefully ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can we exercise or walk / run somewhere in the plane ?

Its a normal plane, you can't exercise or run. The best you can do is walk to the toilet and back, stand around until you're told to go back to your seat.

    How many meals ?

No idea, but I guess 2 main meals and a snack or two.

How many days to recover from this experiences?

    2.75 days.

    • +1

Or as per recently a 150Kg Canadian booked a centre seat (HK>MEL) into which he could never fit and then complained about not having enough room, despite me half sitting in the aisle……I await my refund for only having half a seat.

      • Yikes…. What a fun flight for everyone :/

Sadly I don't like your chances for a part refund!

      • OOI, Did you also complain about the situation to the flight attendant?

Have you complained afterwards? and, has the Airline offered anything?

        • If there is a free seat elsewhere, the attendant would usually be happy to move one of you in this type of situations.

          • @Jstrrrr: That would be my assumption - I'm wondering if the Ade99 tried this.

  • +1

hmm, maybe try to go via boat see which one you like more

  • +2

    Harden up maybe?

I've done 38hrs straight (in transit), piece of cake.

    • I've done 38hrs straight

      Ha ha…

      Try flying Jetstar !!!

      • I have, had a cancellation before, hotel+ food reimbursed, booked on another flight the next day.

Had an extra day holiday, luckily I didn't have anything important, so worked out well.

Never flying them again of course

        • I have, had a cancellation before, hotel+ food reimbursed, booked on another flight the next day.

We got a $10 food voucher and had to pay for our own hotel. The flight booked the next morning then got cancelled too…

          • @jv: Wow. I wonder if they give $10 consistently across the world?

ie. AU$10 won't get you much food in Switzerland vs AU$10 in Bali.

    • I did that rawdog. No food, drink, entertainment or toilets

      • you liked Scoot?

  • +2

What if I'm in the middle seat for those 18hours ?

you'd be insane not to pay to pick your seat and choose wisely.
Theres a vast difference in long haul economy comfort between what the best and worst seat selections(and a bit of luck) can offer

  • Just RawDawg it man, I RawDawg'ed my last Brisbane>LA!

    https://www.thestreet.com/travel/what-is-raw-dogging-a-fligh…

As for middle seat, just pay for Neighbour-free ;)
