    Mighty Refurb $129

Were they in really bad condition previously?

Mixed bag experience with this one. I purchased it for mother's Day, and I've already had to get a replacement controller, soft reset a few times to help with lag, and a hard reset because the Fetch tv failed to show ANY video media (whether live tv, Netflix, YouTube or any other app) it would display the UI, and sound still worked.

On the other hand, when it works……. It has good features.

Remote control is annoyingly unresponsive on both my fetches.

Anyway, used it all the time till i got a box with stremio - haven't used either fetch since. YMMV.

      • Yeah the remotes are surprising low quality. Glad to get Stremio is working for you!

It's a shame since my mum enjoys the features this has, but I'm contemplating returning this, quality control and poor design is a turn off.

      • Box with Stremio? Please link

  • Are these things just a media box like a Nvidia Shield or Apple TV?

It records free to air tv as well as streaming apps

      • Not sure if it can record youtube too? How does this work?

        • +1

          It is recording FTA. stop
As well as streaming (content from) apps

  • I am thinking of getting this purely to watch tennis via Bein Sports at high quality (additional subscription).

Does anyone know if Bein sports or additional pack channels can be recorded via PVR and watched there, or are they streamed like an ondemand service?

    Thanks

    • Bein is free for me.

You can't record Bein though - have to watch it live.

I don't pay for any channels, but I tried to record on the other free streaming channels I have access to, and I can't record on any of them either.

Having said that, when I temporarily had free access to the Travel Channel, I was able to record on that channel.

I have had this model for a couple of years and have found the firmware to be buggy.
I need to restart it a couple of times a month because it fails to record pre-set schedule and I've noticed for the last 2-3 months the user interface can become laggy.

  • +1

As per previous comments the firmware has always been a pain.
I have managed to reset the box but it’s now stuck in a bad set up loop.

Any recommendations for alternative options with free to air?

    • Modded Tivos are still available and working. Old boxes but really easy to use.

  • Thanks OP - just grabbed one. I use PlayTV's with WMC on my PC currently and they can be hit and miss with certain Windows updates. Still going for now though. This will be a good backup/addition - hopefully.

I replaced a Window Media Centre PC with this Fetch Mighty around 2017 or 2018. Has been excellent and constantly improving with UI and feature updates.

I have a Fetch Mighty Refurb but am thinking of returning it. My issues with it are the need to regularly hard restart it (pull out power), but more annoying is the very poor quality signal I get. If I plug my aerial (which is boosted) into my TV the reception is perfect, but running through my Fetch box it is often glitchy and at times unwatchable (lots of green and purple pixilation). Through some reading online it seems that there are 4 TV tuners in the Fetch box (which allows for multiple recording while also watching live tv) and this "splitting" of the signal can reduce the quality, although sometimes if I scroll down a couple of channels and then back to the really bad channel it's fixed, which makes me think it's the box. This is the second refurb box I've had as I returned the first one due to the same issues. Is anyone else having the same problems?

My only real need for it is to record the news (and a couple of other shows) and watch it later, so I can skip through the ads. I'm thinking of getting a FB Marketplace second-hand Panasonic Blue Ray/PVR instead. Anyone have any experience with this machine? Any other options I should consider? My TV can record shows but has only one tuner so I can're record and watch a channel at the same time.

  • I had a fetch tv mighty and it was fine. The power supply seems to have gone and it won't work.
What are alternatives for recording tv channels? I already have kodi and google tv for online content.

    • +1

HDHomeRun (eg https://shop.silicondust.com/shop/) and https://kodi.wiki/view/HDHomeRun might be worth checking out. I replaced my Fetch with one years ago, and has been rock solid. I use Plex, but should be fine with Kodi as well. But. If people at your home are used to using the Fetch box, might be worth just hunting for a suitable replacement power supply or simply getting one of these refurbished units.

      • I use HDHomeRun + Plex. Its great and works flawlessly. Plex does the DVR recording for the news for me which I watch it without the ads on my phone or tv. Works really well.

  • I wouldn't get this model anymore for streaming apps, the M616T isn't going to get the new system update that allows other Android apps such as Kayo etc to run + improves the overall performance (it's not amazing for the apps that are currently on it).

If you don't want streaming apps, it's a pretty good box for recording FTA and premium channels.

    • Interestingly enough, the supported devices of these new features isn't listed at all on the Fetch site. It doesn't say anywhere that only the newer devices have access to these apps. Seems a bit deceptive as you could still buy an older Fetch box from Fetch themselves that doesn't have access to the features that they advertise.

I only know of these limitations from whirlpool and the Fetch facebook comments section.

  • Do you need an optus sub to use this?

Or is it 'unlocked' so just plug and play?

    • +1

Fetch don’t have a subscription relationship with optus anymore, the device is completely plug and play.

      • Oh nice!
I have one sat in the garage from back in the day. I may pull it out and use it now!

  • I've been using Fetchbox for a while, but the latest couple of updates have really pissed me off. They seem to purposefully cripple the box if you don't connect it to the internet.

In the past, you would have noticed it but it would have taken a week or two. Now after a day, EPG data is missing, channel emblems are missing, and going into the menu causes it to freeze.

  • Back to $199… just when I wanted to buy one!
