Excellent deal on a refurbished Fetch mighty. I have had a refurbished one for quite a few years with no problems. Bought this one to replace my temperamental fetch mini. On eBay, these are $189 from the fetch store, and brand new sell for around $400 Note, this model is not sold "brand new" anymore, and although it is described as refurbished on the JB listing, it is probably brand new and has been replaced with the 4k model.
Thanks to those who pointed this out.

As I & others found its new unused stock of OLD Gen3 model.
So unused HDD. Works well.
Was previously $79 & $99 in Deals direct from Fetch.
This is the old M616T, just in case that matters to anyone.
Looking at this to replace my ancient Telstra T-BOX. Does anyone have an opinion using this to view FTA TV and as a PVR? No need for apps or streaming as I have an Apple TV for that.
Great devices; very happy with mine.
"using this to view FTA TV and as a PVR?"
That is what they do (and can do some streaming, not kayo though)
I have two, and one useful aspect is being able to view recordings across wifi from one fetch to the other
.
Is this the best option for a FTA + smart device to replace a Vodafone TV?
Better of getting Amazon fire stick
not sure thats a real comparison. amazon fire cannot record / series record or use to watch FTA channels
you can watch FTA with tivimate for $1 a month tho
Only real way of recording FTA and use $10 perks sign up voucher to get it for $119 .Says 2 years warranty so i think its a good deal.
Word on the street is that a new Mini will be released next month, along with an Android Emulator (Kayo please!) / Open Source STB Software Operating System (RDK), although not sure if it will become available on the Mighty from this deal, which is Gen3 AFAIK?
Gen 5 Mini being rolled out from next month.
-Fetch will be adding an Android Emulator which will allow the Fetch Mini to access and run additional selected Apps from the Google Play Store.
-The user experience for the additional apps will be identical to other Apps on Fetch.
-The full list of available apps is still to be confirmed but will include key sport and general entertainment apps not currently available on Fetch.
-The new Mini will launch on RDK. Fetch is working to migrate all existing Mini 4K and Mighty G4 boxes to RDK later this year.

Good info, thanks for sharing.
I was going to get this for FTA + PVR since that function isn't working on my Plex setup any more. I'd rather pay the extra for a current gen one to get the Android emulator.
fetch noob here. thinking to dump foxtel but i like the EPG and being able to schedule and record free to air programs. Is this possible with this device?
yes it is, it works well
Yes you can record series, watch an episode from the start while recording, etc
One shortcoming. Unable to schedule a weekly recording, it only does series recordings. Say two seasons of a series are on the same channel, setting series recording will record both seasons
.Series Record > Season Options > select from Record All Seasons, Record Latest Season or Record Newest
These aren't 'refurbished', they are just selling out the old 616 model at a lower price than the new 681 model. You can't say it's a '$400 box'. Thats the current price of the new, much faster, 2x Flash RAM, 681 model box.
Pls see this link for the differences…
https://www.fetchtv.com.au/specsYou're not getting a repaired/refurbished 681. You're buying an old stock 616 box.
Awesome unit. Had mine since 2022 as a refurb unit from JB's which was for $189. Great if you like recording multi free to air at the same time.
does it have any ongoing fees?
do you need internet access to use it?
and is there any ISP lock in requirements?I think there are some fetch boxes that only work with optus
no
yes
no (only if you get a optus or telstra version)No fees unless you want some optional extra chanel packs from $6 monthly.
Only need internet for streaming channels and apps, and to get EPG data.
Retail sales from JB should not be locked to Optus.@pinkybrain
@Paul B
"Only need internet for streaming channels and apps, and to get EPG data"
Also need internet to watch files from USB. Only because access to USB is under the apps menu, apps menu non is responsive without internet connectivity (even if wifi network is connected)
.
I thought everyone is hubbling now..
Hubbl is owned 65% by News Corp and 35% by Telstra, as a platform to capture customers abandoning Foxtel for steaming services. It has a similar UI than Fetch, which is its main advantage.
Fetch is 100% owned by Telstra as a replacement to Telstra TV; however Fetch has been around for many years. You can purchase movies and TV shows on Fetch, and it has a mobile app.
Telstra only owns 51.4% of Fetch.
100% when rounded up to the nearest 100.
Hubbl is also just the rebrand of Streamotion, which owns Kayo, Binge, Flash, etc. But I believe you're right about all the changes. I know the Fetch box is making the Telstra TV completely grandfathered, but the Fetch doesn't yet have all streaming apps ready.
I generally try had to avoid giving any $$ to anything to do with the oxygen thieves at News Corp.
Weird, same conversation is simulcasting now on Reddit

I thought TV was dead.
mine has been for more than 7 years. My big arsed screens are only used for internet stuffs these days. A couple of times I've seen a tv on, and been horrified by the ads.
Had this model for a few years, it locks up and needs resetting probably once or twice a month, the UI is also fairly clunky and slow to navigate.
But for recording multiple FTA channels they work great.
I have the exact same problem.
New firmware upgrades have made no difference unfortunately.
Can be annoying when you have programs to be recorded and the unit has decided to freeze.
I have the gen3 (616) model."locks up and needs resetting probably once or twice a month,"
I get it 3-4 times a year, having said that my beyonwiz does the same. My even older dvico tvix rarely non responsive, just sometimes fails to wake from standby to record so I'm regularly waking it manually if I see it on standby so it's ready to record
.
So this lets you record two FTA shows at once? Cool, but why would anyone want to do that?
I've had a Mighty for a few years and had no issues at all.
I record FTA on multiple (up to four available I think) channels at times when I have a series record set up and there are overlaps of programs, or I just record on the chance I might watch something later.Love just being able to fast forward through the advertisements and watch an hour show in 40 mins! My kids use the aps as well and it all works very well with zero subscriptions. Totally recommend for FTA.
This ^
Wot Droodle said! There are many things I liked better on my Beyonwiz, but at least Fetch appear to be sticking around long term.
I record a few shows such as: News; Cheap Seats; Have You Been Paying Attention etc. No way I could sit through the plethora of bloody adverts and no way will I watch 'live' TV, except sport!
Cons: The UI is slow and you can't customise the Apps screen.
I work in a news-adjacent role and have a tiny kid. I record the evening news on all stations and keep the most recent five episodes of each. It's superb to time shift the news and watch after bedtime.
Also great when you weren't expecting to need to watch a specific channel but magically have the recording there when you suddenly realise you needed to.
Congratulations on your dedication! I can't stand watching 1 dose of FTA news, let alone 4!
Wimbledon - two different channels showing different courts.
Think its maybe 4 at once? I use it mostly for aussie programs or sports , don’t have to worry about adblocking or chasing down torrents of little known local shows, just record and skip the ads. Not everything is available on catch-up.
Also has a fair few free 24hr streaming channels , and a decent selection of paytv channels for $6 a pack.
I also love my fetch tv. Bought it as refurbished unit at $199 from jbhifi. I love the series recording and the free additional streaming channels (which you cannot record). What I hate is you can only skip commercials in 5 minutes increments so you miss a part of the show or you are forced to watch the commercials. Also it still use the same amount of electricity whether it is ON or OFF. I guess it only remains on standby to be able to record your scheduled shows.
people still use these things in 2024? kodi + addons covers everything I'd ever want to watch.
Just to note that to get all FTA channels, you need a working antenna. My antenna on the roof is broken and I cannot get all the FTA channels via the Fetch, most notably not being able to get the FTA Ch7 footy.
Apparently, the new mini will solve that problem for you. I don't have an antenna port, in my rental's main bedroom, so I'm going to get the new mini to solve that problem :)
Oh really?! Great tip. Cheaper to get a new box than get a new antenna!
Gretchen: That is so fetch! Regina:
Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen! It's not going to happen!
I wonder if refurbishing involves replacing the HDD?
